Rep. Elissa Slotkin on Governing in an Era of Extremes

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08) joins Jon to describe the frustrating circumstances that led to her fiery speech on the House floor last week, when several Republicans tried blocking a bill for veterans before ultimately voting for it. Later, they explore why being from a competitive district like hers is different than a safe district—and the governing challenges of working with an opposing party that won’t compromise. Staff writers Jay Jurden and Kasaun Wilson are also here to break down Herschel Walker’s abortion scandal and explain why none of his hypocrisies have derailed his campaign so far.

The #MahsaAmini Protest and Iran’s Fight for Freedom

The #MahsaAmini Protest and Iran’s Fight for Freedom

This week we’re talking about the #MahsaAmini protests in Iran with Rana Rahimpour, an Iranian-British journalist with BBC Persian. Jon is also joined by staff writer Alexa Loftus and our Iranian supervising producer Reza Riazi. It’s a fascinating discussion about why this uprising is different from anything that’s come before, what comes next for the people of Iran, and what the U.S. can do to help. (The bad news is it involves Elon Musk.) And if that’s not enough, they go down a Lord of the Rings rabbit hole you simply will not see coming.

For more information on the protests in Iran, you can follow Rana Rahimpour, Amnesty International, or MiddleEastMatters on social media.

A Former US Attorney on How Trump Politicized the DOJ

A Former US Attorney on How Trump Politicized the DOJ

Jon is joined by Geoffrey Berman, a former US attorney from the Southern District of New York—and author of the new book Holding the Line: Inside the Nation’s Preeminent US Attorney’s Office and Its Battle with the Trump Justice Department. They dig into how Bill Barr tried to have Berman fired, why nailing down powerful guys like Trump is so hard, and whether better guardrails could protect our democracy. Berman also happened to be Jon’s neighbor growing up in New Jersey, so they reminisce about old neighborhood gossip. Plus, writers Jay Jurden and Tocarra Mallard trash-talk Ron DeSantis and Brett Favre, who fully deserve it.

Three Jons and a Tommy: Pod Save America Talks Media, Messaging, and Midterms

One Jon is nice—but have you ever heard a podcast with three of them? (Plus, a Tommy for good measure.) The Pod Save America guys are here to discuss midterm elections, the problem with polling, and whether we should look to journalism to save us. They also take a stroll down memory lane to the Obama White House, reminiscing about the good old days of government website crashes and that time a gaping hole opened in the bottom of the ocean. As of this week, we’re back to new episodes weekly! Don’t miss the Season 2 premiere of our TV show, coming October 7 on Apple TV+.

Has America Learned Anything From Its Biggest Disasters? Not Really.

Has America Learned Anything From Its Biggest Disasters? Not Really.

Jon talks to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sheri Fink, whose book Five Days at Memorial is the basis for the Apple TV+ series of the same name. They discuss why our healthcare system is always ill-equipped for disasters—and whether there’s something else coming our way that we should panic about. Writers Robby Slowik and Maria Randazzo also stop by to talk about the Trump raid, the oddest menu items at Mar-a-Lago, and the scourge of lanternflies

Soo, this guy talks about going after cases they can make a case. Again Taibbi wrote a book about this. They are so frightened to lose against the big guns they settle for a paltry fine and no one hats prosecuted. Didn’t bring up the fact that Mayor Rudy got these guys to drop a case against Trump princess Also they seem to inordinately go after Democrats and Repugs and business people are left alone ie the banking felonies of 2008

Ableist Savior Likes to Hear Himself Talk

Over the course of the past couple of decades, Jon Stewart has gained a completely unearned reputation as some sort of humanitarian. In actuality, he is an unapologetic ableist.

He is on the board of Next for Autism, an organization that promotes autistic conversion therapy (otherwise known as applied behavior analysis) and collaborates with hate group Autism Speaks.

In 2016, Stewart gave a glowing review to the book “To Siri with Love,” in which author Judith Newman frequently dehumanized and made fun of her autistic teenager and said she might have him forcibly sterilized.

Stewart hates autistic people and has never for one moment considered hearing out or respecting the opinions of actually autistic people. We are nothing but props he uses to bolster his own image.

Do not support this man by listening to his podcast or consuming any other media he produces. If you do, you are complicit in hate.
