    32. Why I Changed My Mind About Eating Meat

    32. Why I Changed My Mind About Eating Meat

In this episode of the Running Lean podcast, I break my silence about making the switch to eating meat again. Many of you know that I’ve been a big proponent of the plant-based diet for the last 10 years and hearing that I’m now eating meat again may come as a bit of a surprise.

I wanted to record this episode to explain what led me to make the switch, answer questions about why I made this change (and why now), and talk about the impact it’s had on my overall health and athletic performance.

I also talk about what this means for you as a listener of the podcast or as a coaching client.

    30. It’s the Challenges That Change Us

    30. It’s the Challenges That Change Us

Let’s face it, it’s been a challenging year for all of us. Just consider the impact the COVID-19 global pandemic has had on each of us – this year has been a huge challenge!

We’ve all been forced outside our comfort zones and into a place that feels very uncomfortable, and very challenging.

But what I want to talk about today is how it’s these very challenges that we face that show us who we really are.

It’s the challenges that force us to grow.

It’s the challenges that change us – sometimes in profound ways – that we never would have experienced if it weren’t for going through all the discomfort of those challenges.

The challenges we face are ESSENTIAL for our growth as human beings.

The Running Mind Podcast Is Getting a New Name

I’m here with a special edition of the podcast to give you a quick update on what’s coming – The Running Mind Podcast is getting a new name!

I want the podcast name to more accurately represent the material I’m teaching, and so I’m making a very minor change to the name of the show.

You don’t have to do anything at all. The next time you download an episode, it will have a different picture and you’ll see the new name, that’s really about it!

I’ll still be delivering the same great content that you love: running mindset, nutrition, weight loss, becoming fat-adapted, running motivation, and so much more!

I’ll just be doing it under a slightly different name.

So, what’s the new name? You’ll have to listen to find out!

    29. The Ultimate Guide to Fruit

    29. The Ultimate Guide to Fruit

Fruit is one of those things we all just assume is good for us, right? Everyone agrees we should be eating more fruits and vegetables. But should we?

We check the label on something and we’re like, “Hey, this is made with real fruit juice, it must be healthy!” But is it really?

How much fruit should we be eating? What role does fruit play in long-distance running? What about all those vitamins in fruit…don’t we need those? Does fruit help us or hurt us if we’re trying to lose weight?

I will be digging into all of these questions in this episode of The Running Mind Podcast: The Ultimate Guide to Fruit.

    28. Is Sugar Addictive or Do We Just Act Like It Is?

    28. Is Sugar Addictive or Do We Just Act Like It Is?

Sugar has been the subject of controversy since as far back as over 2,000 years ago when Hindu physicians wrote about sugar that it “promotes nutrition and corpulency” (meaning fatness or obesity).

Today, everyone knows that eating too much sugar is a bad idea, yet the average American is consuming around 150 lbs of sugar a year. We find it almost impossible to “just say no” to our favorite sugary treat. Willpower just doesn’t work, it seems.

So the question on the table is… is sugar addictive? Should sugar be treated more like a drug than a nutrient? Do we even need to eat sugar? I’m getting into all of that in this episode of The Running Mind Podcast.

The FASTER Study: Metabolic characteristics of keto-adapted ultra-endurance runners.

Great podcast

I don’t normally leave reviews but I &really enjoy this podcast. Patrick is very informative and has been instrumental in my journey. Keep it going!

Run N Droop it ,

Fresh take on an overwhelming subject for the average Joe.

Patrick does a great job informing his audience about the abundance of information available pertaining to running, nutrition and mental stamina. Whatever your nutrition standards are for endurance, Patrick gives a fresh perspective on the overwhelming amount of information available for you as a runner pertaining to nutrition choices. He breaks down all the complex subjects and without judgement gives alternative options to help others run leaner and longer. I consider this podcast, whether intentional or unintentional, my Jiminy Cricket of podcasts to set me on the straight and narrow when I feel myself getting off course in training. Endurance sports are a battle of the mind and spirit but Patrick has a way of calming the storm...and kicking you in the butt too :) Keep up the good work and give him a listen!

Running Lean Podcast

I’ve learned more from Patrick listening to and being a part of the Running Lean podcast & running group the past few months than I have in the past 30 years as an avid runner and workout junkie! His insight on running, nutrition and life principles for optimal health are inspiring & encouraging. I’m enjoying running again for the first time in years, have lost weight and have incorporated the knowledge I’m learning into practice. It’s one thing to hear it, but another thing to have someone motivating you and encouraging you to make it happen. It’s made a huge difference!! Highly recommend fellow runners to join in! ❤️🏃‍♀️
