    #579: How a Side Hustle Can Redefine Your Financial and Personal Future

    This week's conversation was inspired by something we keep hearing from our community: people who feel capped — financially and creatively — in their current jobs and are wondering what to do about it. Do you add something on the side to generate more cash flow? Or is it time for a full-on career change?   What we talked about: The difference between a "side hustle" and a career change — and why I'm personally trying to retire the word "hustle." I prefer thinking of it as a lateral option to generate more cash. Why spending less isn't the only answer. We talk a lot about budgeting as a society, but what about creating cash injections? Most of us have skills we're seriously undervaluing. Chris painted our entire house for under $3,000 — saving us $15,000 in contractor quotes. That's a real-world example of a monetizable skill most people don't even think about. When a career change makes more sense — you've hit your income ceiling, you're dissatisfied, or (as many people are experiencing right now) you're doing the same or more work for less pay. The golden handcuffs conversation — we talked honestly about what it feels like to be 15 years away from a pension in a job you hate. That's a hard truth. Chris's career change from construction to financial services — he shares what it really took, and why having a mentor who followed up made all the difference. What to ask yourself before you leap: Can you handle inconsistent income? Do you have a buffer (ideally 6 months of expenses)? Are you willing to give up some evenings and weekends while you're building? Is your job the problem — or your income level? What does success feel like (not just look like) for you? Multiple profit streams — my mentor Jack told me early on: never have just one. Even if you're in a niche, build more than one way to generate revenue. Lifestyle shifts when you change careers — especially if you go from something physical (like construction) to something sedentary. We talked standing desks, walking pads, and our 2-3 daily walks. Our own retirement vision — we plan around 60-65 and think in terms of best case and minimum case scenarios. Luxury for us means slow mornings, walks, and a warm mug — not a Four Seasons lifestyle.     #578: Symptoms of Low Estrogen & Big Warning Signs That Get Missed

    We are long overdue for an updated conversation on low estrogen — and today I'm pulling it all apart. Estrogen has been villainized for far too long, and I want to change that. This isn't just about reproductive health or getting your period. Estrogen is a master communicator that touches your brain, heart, bones, gut, skin, mood, sleep, libido, and so much more.   In this episode, I cover: Why low estrogen is one of the most missed and underdiagnosed issues for women between 35 and 65 The three types of estrogen (E1, E2, E3) and why estradiol matters so much beyond fertility Why estrogen often increases first in perimenopause before it eventually declines — and what that means for your symptoms The symptom clusters to pay attention to, organized by body system: Brain, mood & sleep — brain fog, anxiety, emotional flatness, rage responses, waking between 2–4am Body composition & metabolic health — belly fat shifts, muscle loss, fatigue, insulin resistance Skin, hair & connective tissue — collagen loss, hair texture changes, joint pain, frozen shoulder, ACL issues Vaginal & urinary health (GSM) — dryness, painful sex, recurring UTIs, urgency, bladder changes Cardiovascular & bone health — rising LDL, heart palpitations, hot flashes, bone density loss Gut & digestion — bloating, constipation, new food sensitivities, the estrobolome and estrogen recirculation The symptoms I personally would never ignore (waking 2–4am, joint pain without a clear cause, rapid body composition shifts, recurrent UTIs, brain fog affecting your work, heart palpitations) What to ask your doctor to test: FSH, LH, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, full thyroid panel, fasting glucose and insulin, cholesterol, CBC, SHBG — and when functional testing like DUTCH or HTMA may be useful My thoughts on DIM, sulforaphane, calcium-d-glucarate, magnesium, adaptogens (ashwagandha, rhodiola, maca), omega-3s, creatine, collagen, and vitamin D Nutrition strategies — phytoestrogen-rich foods, cruciferous veggies, fiber, protein targets (30–40g per meal), healthy fats, and what to cut Movement priorities — why resistance training 3–4x/week is non-negotiable for bone, muscle, and metabolic health Hormone replacement therapy — what options exist, how to approach the conversation with your provider, and why your protocol will evolve over time   Let's dive in!     The Tools You Already Own That You're Skipping Over

    This episode is your reminder that the women who feel their best aren't doing the most. They're doing the basics, consistently, with intention.   Today, I'll walk you through 12 health tools already in your home: Your kitchen — Cooking most of your own meals is one of the most powerful biohacks you have. We talk about how to set up your kitchen stations for simplicity, and why the act of slowing down to cook sends a healing signal to your body. Your water — Whether you have a fridge filter or a full reverse osmosis system, there are simple ways to elevate your hydration. We cover minerals, electrolytes, glass vs. plastic, and my recommendation of 2–3 liters a day. Your bed — Sleep is non-negotiable. I share my nighttime stack (magnesium, reishi, mouth tape, eye mask) and why getting your sleep environment right matters just as much as any supplement. Light — Morning light sets your cortisol awakening response. Evening light impacts your melatonin. Something as simple as drinking your coffee outside or dimming your lights at night makes a real difference. Your floor — Getting down on the floor daily for movement, stretching, and mobility is a primal, regulating practice. Your floor is a full gym — you just forget it's there. Your shower — A good shower filter is inexpensive and impactful. Add contrast therapy (hot to cold) and you've got a built-in nervous system reset every single day. Your breath — This one's free. I share why I love mouth taping at night, how I cue breath in my movement classes, and the power of a double exhale to release what your body is holding. Your environment — Clutter creates stress. Toxins in your fragrance create stress. Getting your environment organized, calm, and clean is a foundational health tool hiding in plain sight. A rolling pin — I know. But hear me out. I use mine for lymphatic flow and fascial work on my legs, glutes, hips, and calves. Check your kitchen drawer before you order a foam roller. Your running shoes — Walking is medicine. It's a fat loss tool, a blood sugar balancer, a connection ritual. My husband and I walk every day. It costs nothing. Your headset — I'm a corded headphones person (you won't catch me in AirPods). Audio is a powerful tool — what you listen to changes your physiology. Use it intentionally. A notebook and pen — Getting what's in your head onto paper is a power move. Clear the mental clutter.
