Why is it ALL Her Fault?

In this episode of The Things We Know, Lisa and Kari use the psychological thriller All Her Fault as a doorway into a much larger cultural conversation about how quickly women are judged, blamed, and morally scrutinized. Through the intertwined storylines of working mothers, caregivers, and a woman whose life has been shaped by inherited guilt, they explore how blame lands differently on women than on men, how motherhood is policed through impossible standards, and how judgment often disguises itself as concern. Drawing on research, cultural patterns, and familiar moments from pop culture, this conversation invites listeners to slow down their own reflexes, notice who gets the benefit of the doubt, and consider how awareness itself can begin to loosen these patterns. If this conversation stirred a desire for something different than judgment or fixing, and you're craving an empowering, safe, and genuinely loving circle of women where you can show up without being evaluated, there is still time to join Kari and Lisa at Unstoppable: A Best Chapter Yet Retreat, happening February 27 through March 1 in Palm Springs, California. It's an invitation to step out of scrutiny and into connection, reflection, and forward movement with women who know how to hold space without verdicts. This is Not Normal

In this episode of The Things We Know, Kari and Lisa name the moment we're living in without softening it or pretending it's business as usual. They talk honestly about the emotional and nervous system toll of staying awake to what's happening in the world, why disengagement is no longer a neutral choice, and how caring deeply right now comes with a real cost. Drawing from their work as coaches, mothers, and women paying close attention, they explore how to stay engaged without burning out, why regulation is not avoidance but capacity-building, and how community helps keep despair from taking over. This is a conversation about moral distress, presence, and what it means to remain human, grounded, and connected in a time that feels anything but normal. And if this conversation stirred a desire not just to stay informed, but to stay human and resourced in the midst of it all, there is still a small window to join Kari and Lisa at the Unstoppable: A Best Chapter Yet Retreat in Palm Springs, February 27–March 1, 2026. The retreat is a place to slow down, tend to your nervous system, reflect on your own story, and reconnect with what gives you steadiness and courage for the long road ahead. More details and registration are linked above if this feels like the kind of support you've been needing. Best Friend Project with Rachel Swardson

Kari and Lisa talk with researcher and storyteller Rachel Joy Swardson about the real landscape of women's friendships—the fractures we don't speak about, the quiet eroders that dissolve connection, and why midlife can feel both full and lonely at the same time. Together they explore how values shifts, life transitions, and unspoken expectations shape the way women find, make, and keep friends, and they consider what it looks like to repair or release a friendship with honesty and compassion. This conversation invites listeners to reflect on their own patterns, the friendships that shaped them, and the possibility of forming meaningful new connections in midlife. The bonds that spark there are real and lasting, and it's one of their favorite parts of this work. For those craving that kind of community, there is still time to join them at Unstoppable: A Heroine's Journey in Palm Springs, February 27-March 1, 2026 Where to find Kari and Lisa: The Things We Know Podcast Homepage Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ThingWeKnowPodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thethingsweknowpod

    Getting Braver Instead of "Better"

Lisa Callahan and Kari Morin are back!   Here to open Season Four of The Things We Know by retiring the familiar pressure to be better and asking a different, more honest question. What if this year is about being braver instead. In a world that feels heavy and uncertain, they explore what courage actually looks like in midlife and in these times. Not perfection or optimization, but emotional honesty, softened strength, clear boundaries, and the willingness to be seen as we are. Through personal stories about caregiving, grief, identity shifts, friendships, parenting adult children, and the courage required to stay present rather than numb, they reflect on the small, everyday acts of bravery that help women move forward without abandoning themselves. Because bravery is easier when it is practiced in community, Lisa and Kari also share what they witnessed at their Brave and Boundless retreat last Fall, and why they are so excited about their next gathering, Unstoppable: A Heroine's Journey, taking place February 27 through March 1, 2026 in Palm Springs. This retreat offers women a chance to explore their stories, reclaim their courage, and step into the year ahead with support, connection, and intention. There's still time to register, and spaces are filling, but the invitation is simple: come be held in community, explore your next chapter with support, and step into the kind of courage this new season is all about.
