I heard about this case through tik tok, coincidentally while I was in South Africa, and I became interested in it as I’ve never heard of the case.
I tried to find podcasts on it because I wanted to learn more about the case. I’ve been waiting to listen to a podcast about it and I found this podcast.
Honestly, I’m pretty disappointed on how this podcast was executed.
1) at the beginning of this episode one of the girls talks about “cannibalism” in South Africa. I find this pretty insensitive & lack of being informed. Please do a little bit of research on South Africa itself before you start talking about it and making these comments, or comments about South Africa in general/the era this occurred in in South Africa.
2) I feel like a majority of this story was everything you can look up online. It doesn’t feel like there was a lot of research put into this besides surface level. Usually when I listen to podcasts like this, I’m listening because podcasters tend to find more information on a case (dive deeper) than the surface level research an average human being can do.
3) I know everyone copes with traumatic things like this differently when telling the story, but I feel like there was alot of unnecessary laughing.
Overall, if you’re going to try and cover a case from another country, do your best to learn some about the country as well… I know it isn’t always easy to find information, but try to find as much information you can about a country & try to dive a little deeper instead of surface level. Also, look up how to pronounce very common surnames over there. It’s not “BA-tha” it’s “BOW-tha” (how Americans would pronounce it) or “BOW-ta” (how South Africans would pronounce it)
