    Leaning In With Audra Bullock

Grief and joy. Intensely challenging and hugely rewarding. Adoption is complex. Listen in as adoptive mother and non profit leader Audra shares what she's learning leaning in.... Audra is the founder and CEO of The Friends of Foster Care. She holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Engineering from Old Dominion University and has worked as an Assistant Professor and NASA Mission Manager. Since becoming a foster parent in 2015, Audra has dedicated her professional life to supporting foster children and building programs that create long-term impact. Dr. Audra Bullock and her family became foster parents in 2015 when a three-year-old boy was placed in their home. His arrival changed their lives and transformed the way they viewed family. They fell in love with him immediately and made a lifelong commitment to support him, no matter where his foster care journey led. Recognizing that, without meaningful support, he was at risk of following the same path that had brought his family into the foster care system, Dr. Bullock and her family made it their mission to ensure that other children in foster care have the love, stability, and resources they need to thrive. Since then, they have adopted two wonderful children through foster care and remain deeply grateful for the life-changing experience of building their family through foster care. https://friendsoffostercare.org/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/audra-bullock-024704149/ https://www.facebook.com/thefriendsoffostercare https://www.instagram.com/thefriendsoffostercare Guests and the host are not (unless mentioned) licensed pscyho-therapists and speak from their own opinion only. Comfortably Unresolved With Andy Wullaert

Is something that you've not resolved making you uncomfortable? Making you suffer? Our suffering lies in the gap between what we have - like resolution - and what we don't have. Listen in as adoptee Andy explores being ok with matters unresolved and much more. Here's a bit about Andy "I'm an adoptee who spent more than five decades wrestling with questions about identity, belonging, and what adoption ultimately means over the course of a lifetime. Like many adoptees, I believed that if I could somehow reconnect with my biological family, I'd finally understand who I was. Ironically, they found me. For years, I imagined that reunion would answer the biggest questions of my life. It didn't. What I found instead was something far more nuanced. They were kind people. Good people. I'm genuinely grateful to know them, and I believe they're good to their core. But they weren't my people, and they didn't hold the answers I thought they would. Ironically, the most meaningful part of the reunion wasn't discovering who they were. It was realizing they were never responsible for defining who I was in the first place. My mother was a psychotherapist who encouraged me throughout my life to examine each stage of that journey honestly and put language to what I was experiencing. That became one of the motivating forces behind writing my memoir, Blood = Water: The Search for Identity Beyond Biology.  I think many adoptees quietly wrestle with questions about biology, identity, expectations, forgiveness, and agency, but we don't always give ourselves permission to say those thoughts out loud.
