Jennifer Gore-Cuthbert - Leadership, Hiring, and Leveraging Social Media

Jennifer Gore-Cuthbert - Leadership, Hiring, and Leveraging Social Media

The secret to doing it all is having a strong team. If you want to grow your business, you have to empower them to take charge. A single person can only accomplish so much. Don’t be afraid to let go. You may be surprised at what they can accomplish without you.
“At the heart of it all, I’m a person who wants to empower others to take control of their lives and future.”
Jennifer Gore-Cuthbert is the founding attorney and owner of Atlanta Personal Injury Law Group. She represents victims of vehicle collisions, drunk driving collisions, those injured in a slip-and-fall, and wrongful death cases. Jennifer’s goals of becoming an attorney and opening her own practice were shaped by her own personal injury experiences. In college, she was seriously hurt in a car accident. After going through the arduous recovery process and having to navigate her own legal case, Jennifer decided that she wanted to dedicate her professional life to helping other victims get back on track.
On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Jennifer to discuss building a large following on social media, teaching leadership skills, giving your team autonomy to make decisions and Jenn secret shops her own firm.

    Key Takeaways
Watch out for secret shoppers. Always be on your A game. You never know who’s calling. It could be your own boss.
Batch your content. Film a bunch of content at once and schedule it on your social media calendar. You don’t want to always be rushing to post at the last second.
Learn to delegate. Train and trust your team to make important decisions without you. You can’t be everywhere at once.

Jefferson Fisher - Becoming a Social Media Sensation

Jefferson Fisher - Becoming a Social Media Sensation

For some, success can be a long road, and for others, it can happen overnight. The quality that both these people have in common is staying true to who they are, no matter how long it takes.
Jefferson Fisher is a board-certified Texas trial lawyer and founder of Fisher Firm, which has over 6 million followers on social media. He enjoys teaching people to persuade and communicate effectively in high-conflict situations. “I help people argue less so they can talk more.”
On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Jefferson to discuss gaining millions of followers overnight, tips on genuine communication, his upcoming book, running his law firm, and his love of peanut M&Ms.

    Key Takeaways
Take a step back. Take a pause before responding to someone else’s aggression. Maybe they’re having a bad day and it’s not about you.
Don’t overthink it. Sometimes it’s better to get things done than to be a perfectionist. Don’t let it keep you from moving forward.
Share your passion. Chances are someone else is passionate about the same thing you are. Put yourself out there, and you’ll probably be rewarded.

Amanda Demanda - Growing Your Business by Building a Personal Brand

Amanda Demanda - Growing Your Business by Building a Personal Brand

Creating an authentic brand around your business can have a big impact on the growth of your firm. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
As a Miami native, attorney Amanda Demanda stands up to big insurance companies and businesses in pursuit of justice. She focuses her practice specifically on representing people injured due to the negligence or unsafe practices of others. Amanda firmly believes that products, places, and health care are made safer through lawsuits that shed light upon unsafe products and practices.
On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Amanda to discuss creating a stand-out brand, not being afraid to break norms, diversifying marketing, and working with the Spanish and elder communities.

    Key Takeaways
Your professional brand doesn’t have to be your personal brand. Everyone associates Amanda Demanda with her pink brand, but it’s not her favorite color. She picked a color she knew would stand out in the space. What works for your brand will be different than what works for you personally. Do some market research before making a decision.
Diversify your marketing efforts. Don’t just focus on one form of advertising. There are many forms of both digital and print marketing. Amanda’s Instagram was deleted through no fault of her own. If that had been her only platform, she would have been in a lot of trouble. Don’t fall into that trap.
Know your demographics. Amanda Demanda knows how to cater to her large Spanish and elder community followings. Figure out your target audience and know how to best reach and represent them.

James (TopDog) Helm - Authentic Branding and Social Media Success

James (TopDog) Helm - Authentic Branding and Social Media Success

Hitting rock bottom doesn’t mean the end. Things may seem bleak, but you can get through it. Reach out to loved ones around you and ask for their help. You may be surprised at how supportive others can be and how strong you actually are.
James (TopDog) Helm almost ruined his life fighting a crippling pill addiction from ages 17 to 25. Now sober since 2016, James has grown TopDog Law into one of the most successful law firms in Philadelphia. “What was once my biggest liability is now my biggest asset. I’m grateful for my struggle and wouldn’t have it any other way. It allows me to connect with people on a deeper level and offer my experience, strength, and hope to those who are dealing with addiction or going through the devastation of a catastrophic injury.”
On this week's episode, Maria sits down with James (TopDog) Helm as they discuss starting your own business, creating a brand, gaining clients through social media, and dealing with addiction.

    Key Takeaways
Set yourself apart. You don’t have to follow the norm. Follow the path that works best for you.
Be authentic. People can sense when you’re being fake. Being honest can help you build a more authentic brand.
Hire for the jobs you hate. Don’t force yourself to get bogged down in things you aren’t good at. Find people who excel in the areas you are weak.

Gary Dordick - A Trial Lawyer's Path to Health and Working With Family

Gary Dordick - A Trial Lawyer's Path to Health and Working With Family

Having the odds stacked against you doesn’t mean giving up. Finding your path may be tough, but with hard work and determination, the possibilities are endless.
Gary has held the record for the highest jury verdicts in numerous courthouses, including a staggering $125 million-dollar jury verdict in Ventura County in 2016. He went directly from high school to law school, never attending college. He put himself through a four-year night program while working at a law office, where he started as a file room clerk. Immediately after passing the bar, Mr. Dordick opened his own law firm, starting out with no employees. Now, Dordick Law Corporation has three locations, fifty-six employees, and eighteen lawyers, including his three kids, Michelle, Dylan, and Taylor, as associate lawyers.
On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Gary Dordick as they discuss what it means to be healthy at 60, how he found his path through martial arts, working with his kids, and how he sees the future of law.

    Key takeaways
College isn’t everything. Not going to college doesn’t mean not being successful. Carve your own path, learn from others, and take advantage of every opportunity.
Don’t spoil your kids. Even though you may want to give them everything you didn’t have, it’s ok to hold some things back. Teach them lessons about the value of money and let them see how hard work and grit can lead to a more fulfilling life.
Try new things. Don’t be afraid to take a chance. You may find your view completely changed after giving it a try.

Joe Volta - Reducing Alcohol Intake and Starting Your Own Firm

Joe Volta - Reducing Alcohol Intake and Starting Your Own Firm

Life isn’t perfect. Things get in the way. Issues arise. Problems come up. Don’t let that dissuade you from following your dreams.
As a trial attorney in Baltimore, Joe Volta focuses his practice on complex product liability litigation. Additionally, he works with clients to handle a variety of cases that include general business concerns, auto and motorcycle negligence, wrongful death, truck accidents, and premises liability.
On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Joe at the MTMP Conference in Las Vegas. They discuss when it’s time to start your own firm, struggling with addiction, and showing vulnerability on social platforms.

    Key takeaways
Take the leap and start your own firm. Sometimes the best way to move forward is to take big chances. Joe turned down a great opportunity in order to take a risk and follow his passion. There may be a long road ahead, but his hard work has paid off.
Addiction can be overcome. Don’t be afraid to seek help. A lot of people are dealing with similar circumstances. A good support system can turn your life around.
Be vulnerable with your followers. People can tell when you're not being honest with them. The best way to build an online following is to share the good as well as the bad. Let people learn from your past experiences.
