Human memory is flawed and we're here to prove it. On Totes Recall, our hosts Molly Chase, Beth Gibbs, Dan Jaquette and Dan Linden discuss the intricate details of a popular film. The catch? It's been years since they've watched it. Listen as they attempt to recap the plot, pull the names of secondary characters, and make bets whether a vat of acid appears at any point in the film. At halftime, they press the pause button, watch the film and return with answers. Did they nail it? Or, more likely, did they forget the entire second half of the movie? Listen and play along. Make new memories while realizing all of your old ones are full of lies.

    Return of the Jedi

    Return of the Jedi

We recall Return of the Jedi (1983), episode six: the third one. Nerds be warned: you will have to buy yourself a new phone after you throw yours across the room.

    Terminator 2: Judgment Day

    Terminator 2: Judgment Day

We recall Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) as being super cool with awesome robots and lots of swears. There’s also nuclear warfare, violence, and lots of Pepsi product placement.

    E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

    E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

We recall E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) because we’re pretty sure there’s a Halloween scene in the movie. Molly remembers E.T.’s mom picking him up, we don’t remember the astronauts, and Beth just wants Mary (the mom) to have a nice time.

    Top Gun

    Top Gun

We recall Top Gun (1986), a movie about war pilots and bro-ing out. There’s pre-teen discomfort, lots of guitar riffs, and not enough Tommy C. running. Plus, we harshly judge the kissing in this movie.

    Ferris Bueller's Day Off

    Ferris Bueller's Day Off

We recall Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986). A movie about a teen who should probably cool it. We try out best at a Chicago accent, discuss animal danger, and side with Jeanie this time around. Plus, we talk #BDE (Big Dad Energy).

Lights out black out boom done nailed it

Totes recall is a totes-ally awesome podcast! I drive to visit my family ~1 per month, and I always listen to the new episode on the way and an older episode coming back. I’ve even started to relisten to some episodes.

From Dan’s liberal use of hashtags and .coms to Molly’s love for movie animals to other Dan’s need for clarification to Beth’s impeccable movie pedigree as a viewer of AFI’s top 100 list, what’s not to like? I especially like the new 60 second summary bit to start the 2nd half of the podcast. It’s so great that I’ll bet Joe Prado came up with it.

This is the first podcast I recommend friends looking for new podcasts. I stumbled upon it by accident, and I’m so glad I did!

What a Treat

While the world is crumbling around us, this podcast is a lovely break from reality. I love reminiscing on old movies and hearing the hosts take on them. I almost stopped listening when they tore apart one of my favorite movies, Freaky Friday, but I’m glad I stuck around!
