Welcome to Whole-Hearted Eating™ : where non-diet nutrition, weight-inclusive care, and integrative health collide. Whole-Hearted Eating is a philosophy created by your hosts, Dana Monsees and Cristina Hoyt, Licensed Integrative Clinical Nutritionists and Body Image Coaches. We believe you deserve to have a joyful relationship with food and your body even if you have a chronic health condition or symptoms that just won’t quit. This show goes beyond introducing you to new, expanded ideas - we’re bringing the real talk (no BS) vibe with tangible tools to get you officially out of the all or nothing mentality, learn to accept your body, and how to untangle nutrition from diet and wellness culture.

Chronic symptom management and cultivating resilience with Whole-Hearted Eating
Welcome to part 3 of our discussion on functional medicine, lab testing, and chronic symptom management from a Whole-Hearted Eating Approach! In this episode we discuss how when you’re dealing with chronic symptoms or labs that are out of range, doctors place a huge emphasis on removing everything inflammatory – foods, lifestyle factors, etc. So you do it. And then you think…why aren’t I feeling better after removing the food/inflammatory factors?? Why aren’t I feeling better after trying to remove as many stressors as possible? Is it my fault because I didn’t do it perfectly?? And we talk about what to do about it instead, from our signature Whole-Hearted Eating approach.

Lab testing 101: the Whole-Hearted Eating Way
On this part 2 episode in our functional medicine series, we discuss Lab testing 101: the Whole-Hearted Eating Way. Cristina and Dana dig into how they use labs in their practices as a way to bring neutrality to the conversation, the types of labs they use, why they use them. They give you examples of how they interpret blood work, stool testing, hair mineral analysis testing, and other functional tests to help dive deeper into your health and symptoms using an add-in nutrition way, rather than a restrictive mindset. Because people are not just a set of symptoms and data points from functional labs or bloodwork!

Great content without toxic diet culture
I always feel so seen when I listen to this pod. It’s super supportive and affirming and supports health without dieting. Love love love!
They talk about the whole picture
SUCH a refreshing point of view. Cristina and Dana play off of each other in such an great way. They’ve each worked in the restriction-based functional medicine industry where they realized that even being too “healthy” is a bad thing. They discuss nutrition related issues with nuance and awareness of all sides of the issue.
Confused or feeling sabotaged by food
Absolutely love how Dana and Cristina show a healthy and different perspective to healing one’s relationship with food and eating. These girls are a breath of fresh air and so worth listening too! Grateful for their honest real life conversations.
