  • The Most Embarrassing Story He’s Never Told: Uncut with Hamish Blake

The Most Embarrassing Story He’s Never Told: Uncut with Hamish Blake

Hey Lifers! Today’s guest needs no introduction, but we’re giving him one anyway. Radio legend, podcaster, TV host, Gold Logie winner, one half of Hamish & Andy and, as of very recently, member of the hole-in-one club (174 metres, in case you were wondering). It’s the one and only Hamish Blake! Hamish kicks things off with an Accidentally Unfiltered story he has NEVER told before. It involves Pants Off Friday, some questionable early-2000s diet pills, Matt Tilley’s beloved studio chair and a secret late-night dumpster run around St Kilda. We are honoured, and also deeply confused, that he chose us for this one. Once we’ve recovered, Hamish gets into the good stuff. He explains why he considers himself a “blue ribbon husband,” what 14 years of marriage to Zoë has taught him about growing together, and why parenting feels like doing a puzzle on a moving table. He also tells us why he’s protecting the school run at all costs, even when big gigs come knocking. We also go deep on his 20-year partnership with Andy. Hamish talks about why they chose to end radio on a high, how they watched for “the crack in the reactor” before anything could go wrong, and why podcasting has become his favourite thing they’ve ever done. Plus, we get the (very wholesome) goss from Andy’s buck’s party. Think less strippers, more 24 grown men playing Battleship at 1am. And of course, we chat about his brand new Stan show, Unskilled Adults. In it, Hamish and his mates take on real jobs with zero skills, including catering a wedding for 80 people in Townsville. Unskilled Adults lands on Stan on November 1st, so make sure you check it out! ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Welcome Hamish Blake + the hole in one he definitely isn’t bragging about 4:00 — Accidentally Unfiltered: Pants Off Friday, diet pills & the destruction of Matt Tilley’s chair 12:21 — Petty hill (RIP voicemail), being a “blue ribbon husband” & choosing the school run over big gigs 18:58 — 14 years married to Zoë: growing together & parenting as a team 24:21 — Why Hamish & Andy ended on a high, the magic of chemistry & falling in love with podcasting 40:04 — Andy’s buck’s party: Battleship, mooning & the legend of fruit bowling 43:53 — Raising boys in the age of social media: masculinity, resilience & “the doing of life” 47:04 — All about Unskilled Adults on Stan, including catering a wedding for 80 people See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Judith Lucy Wrote the Book on Wellness. Then She Got Cancer

Want to listen before everyone else? Mamamia subscribers get exclusive early access to No Filter from 6am every Saturday, a full two days before regular listeners. Click here to subscribe now. Judith Lucy wrote the book on wellness. Then she got cancer. After years of anxiety and a burnout that forced her to step away from stand-up, one of Australia’s funniest women went searching for a way to feel better. That search took her all the way to an ayahuasca retreat in the Amazon. Let’s just say enlightenment wasn’t what she brought home. Just days before her scheduled double mastectomy, Judith joins her longtime friend Kate Langbroek for a conversation that is as funny, frank and deeply personal as you’d expect. She shares the Christmas Day revelation that changed how she understood her family, and the devastating phone call that exposed the boyfriend she thought she’d grow old with. She also opens up about the anxiety that followed her on stage for decades, and why it took until her 50s to ask what she actually wanted her life to look like. And when her cancer diagnosis brought up a fear familiar to so many single women, who would look after her, her friends had an answer. Judith’s new book, Well Well Well, is out now through Simon & Schuster. What To Listen To Next: Listen: Everyone Knows Rodger Corser. What Hundreds of Focus Groups With Trump Voters Revealed

Sarah Longwell has probably conducted more focus groups with Trump voters than anyone else in America — hundreds of them, starting in Trump’s first term. So she has a treasure trove of qualitative evidence of how voters have evolved in the Trump era and why many of the president’s voters are souring on him now. Trump’s approval rating has plummeted since the start of his second term, especially among the groups that swung toward him in the last election — young, Black and Hispanic voters. But I wanted to have Longwell on the show to hear what these people are really saying. What exactly has disappointed them about Trump’s second term? And what opportunities could that open for Democrats? Longwell is a founder and the publisher of The Bulwark, the host of “The Focus Group Podcast” and the author of “How to Eat an Elephant: One Voter at a Time.” Mentioned: “Trump Voters Explain Ossoff’s Appeal. And It’s Not What You Think.” by Sarah Longwell Book Recommendations: “Intermezzo” by Sally Rooney “Stoner” by John Williams “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver Thoughts? Guest suggestions? What The Attack On Helen Haines Has Shown Us & The Russell Brand Strategy

“Thank you, you lovely people. I appreciate your help.” Those were reportedly Helen Haines’s first words to the strangers who ran to her aid outside her Wangaratta office on Monday. Jessie, Mia and Holly reflect on the woman, described by all sides of politics as the best of us, on the strangers who ran to help her, and on what female politicians are now saying about their safety. Our love goes to Helen and her family. Also, Russell Brand is on trial in London, and he and his wife Laura are posting about it every day. Holly unpacks why Britain can’t look away.Plus, forget the postcode. Mia is backing a theory that what decides how happy you are is everything within ten minutes of your front door. And, Prince Harry sat down with GQ and used the word “reconcile”. Holly nearly broke a thumb clicking. We’re so excited to be selected for Apple Podcasts Creators We Love, which recognises people who are trailblazers and leaders in podcasting.
