Postpartum depression is more common, affecting about one in eight people who give birth. Postpartum psychosis affects roughly one to two per 1,000 births. Depression can mean persistent sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion. Psychosis can involve hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized behavior, and it can be intermittent, hidden behind long lucid periods.
