ADA LIMÓN on Interconnectedness, Startlement & The Power of Poetry

My guest today is Ada Limón. She served two historic terms as the 24th poet laureate in the United States. She has brought poetry to public parks across the US, and her words have traveled through deep space, engraved on NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft. In over 20 years of writing in celebrated collections like Bright Dead Things and The Carrying and her new book, Startlement: New and Selected Poems, Ada has brought a sincerity to American poetry rooted in connection to the natural world. She’s written with inspiring honesty about the death of loved ones, trying to conceive and also the unexpected liberation of deciding to step away from societal expectations of motherhood and embrace a life happily childfree. Her latest book on craft, Against Breaking: On the Power of Poetry, asks how a poem can hold our heaviest grief without letting the human spirit fracture. After years living in Kentucky and New York, she bought back her childhood home in Sonoma Valley, stepping back into the rooms where her poetic imagination first took root. كتاب ما وراء بوابة الموت؟

كتاب "ماذا وراء بوابة الموت" للدكتور مصطفى محمود هو رحلة فكرية وفلسفية عميقة تحاول سبر أغوار اللغز الأكبر في الوجود الإنساني، وهو الموت. الكتاب لا يقدم الموت كنهاية، بل كبوابة لعبور الزمن نحو الأبدية. محتوى الكتاب: 1. فلسفة الزمن والنسبية: يطرح الدكتور مصطفى محمود رؤية مدهشة حول "زمن البرزخ"، مستشهداً بالآيات القرآنية التي تصف لبث الموتى في قبورهم بأنه "ساعة من نهار". يوضح أن شعورنا بالزمن في الدنيا سيبدو ضئيلاً جداً (كأنه صفر) مقارنة باللانهاية والأبدية في الآخرة، وهي فكرة تقترب من مفهوم النسبية. 2. الموت كصحوة لا كرقاد: ينفي الكتاب فكرة أن الموت هو "نوم طويل" أو "فناء"، بل يصفه بأنه "استقبال حافل" أو "صدمة صحوة". يرى أن النفس تتحرر من كثافة الجسد المادي لتنتقل إلى مستوى أعلى من الوعي، حيث يبدأ الحساب أو النعيم فور خروج النفس من الجسد (لحظة الحشرجة). 3. قضية التسيير والتخيير: يخصص الكاتب مساحة لمناقشة حرية الإنسان، موضحاً أن الإنسان "مخير" فيما أودعه الله فيه من أمانة (العقل والإرادة)، ولكنه "مسير" ضمن قوانين الكون الإلهية. ويشرح كيف أن الله ييسر لكل إنسان ما اختاره قلبه ونواه في الدنيا ("فأما من أعطى واتقى... فسنيسره لليسرى"). 4. نقد المادية والعولمة: يتناول الكتاب أبعاداً معاصرة، حيث ينتقد "العولمة" التي يراها محاولة لإذابة الخصوصية والهوية الإنسانية والدينية. كما ينتقد الغرور العلمي للإنسان المعاصر الذي وصل للقمر لكنه فشل في السيطرة على شهواته أو تحقيق السلام والعدل على الأرض. 5. العودة إلى النفس ومعرفة الله: يؤكد الكتاب أن معرفة النفس هي الطريق الأول لمعرفة الخالق. ويدعو إلى الحفاظ على "البصمة الالهية" والخصوصية الروحية لكل فرد، محذراً من الانجراف خلف الماديات التي تحول الإنسان إلى "مسخ" أو "قطعة ديكور" فاقدة لجوهرها. خلاصة الكتاب: هو دعوة للاطمئنان وعدم الخوف من المجهول عبر فهم الغاية من الوجود، والتأكيد على أن كل ما في الكون يسير وفق خطة إلهية دقيقة تنتقل بالمادة والروح من البساطة إلى التركيب، ومن الجهل إلى المعرفة، ومن الفناء إلى الخلود. From paleo to intermittent fasting: are any diets actually good for us?

As diet trends proliferate on social media, it can be hard to work out which are backed by science and which should be ignored. From paleo to keto, raw food to intermittent fasting, each attracts a tribe of ardent followers. Now Daniel Lieberman, professor of biological sciences at Harvard University, has written a book to try to cut through the noise. In Fed Up, he uses his background as an evolutionary anthropologist to scrutinise the evidence, turning himself into a guinea pig in the process and trying various diets.
