Rick Rubin: What Jay-Z Did in 30 Minutes Left Me Speechless!

Discover the spiritual and psychological creative process that legendary producer Rick Rubin uses to help the world's biggest artists transcend and achieve greatness. Rick Rubin is the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings, and the author of the philosophical bestseller The Creative Act: A Way of Being. Having collaborated with icons like Jay-Z, Johnny Cash, Adele, Tom Petty, and Kanye West, Rubin does not rely on commercial metrics or audience testing to guide his workflow. He shares practical strategies for dismantling the prisons of identity, harnessing the power of "indefensible" ideas, and cultivating a state of pure creative freedom. In this episode, he explains: ■ The "Indefensible" Act: Why the greatest artistic breakthroughs defy logic and market research. ■ The Vacuum Strategy: How walking away from obligations that no longer serve you creates an energetic void, allowing the universe to present massive unexpected opportunities. ■ The Audience Trap: Why focusing on commercial incentives and audience expectations completely undermines the creative process. ■ Deconstructing the Greats: The psychological traits that separate good musicians from generational icons. ■ The Trauma of Success: Rubin opens up about his crippling depressive episode at age 33 after a corporate restructuring at Def Jam. Shall We Repeal the Laws of Economics – Part III

In his latest memo, Howard Marks discusses recent attempts to rein in long-dated government bond yields.  He affirms that the only sustainable solution is responding to the underlying factors pushing interest rates up, even if politically uncomfortable.  Any other method simply represents an attempt to override the laws of economics – and that never works.

What New CEOs Get Wrong About the Job

Becoming CEO can look like the culmination of a career. But the skills that help someone rise to the top job aren't necessarily the ones that make them successful once they get there. Nitin Nohria, former dean of Harvard Business School, has spent three decades studying CEOs and working with new leaders as they adjust to the demands of the role. He says one of the biggest surprises for new CEOs is realizing that they can't—and shouldn't—run the company themselves. Instead, their job is to create the conditions for their leadership team to run it well. He also explains how CEOs can stay connected to their organizations, build the right leadership team, manage their boards, focus their time, and decide which emerging issues—including AI—actually deserve their attention. Nohria is author of The CEO: The Role, the Reality, the Responsibility.

Professor Jiang: Three Predictions On the Collapse of the World Order

Could war and global trade breakdowns trigger a modern Bronze Age collapse? Uncover the hidden geopolitical forces dismantling the American empire and what this shift means for our future. Professor Jiang Xueqin is a renowned geopolitical analyst and Yale educated scholar who applies rigorous historical patterns and game theory to forecast the world's most catastrophic conflicts. He returns to reveal the hidden vulnerabilities of our modern civilization by mapping the intricate connections between natural resources, military hegemony, and global supply chains. This urgent analysis provides a framework to help everyday people find meaning and resilience amidst the impending global chaos. In this episode, he explains: ■ The Innovation Equation: Why technological progress is strictly dictated by specialization multiplied by globalization. ■ The Petrodollar Collapse: How the entire global economy relies on US military hegemony and the Middle East.  ■ The Next Geopolitical Flashpoints: How severe water scarcity and shifting demographics in the Global South will trigger mass migration, intense polarization, and potential civil wars across Western societies. ■ The Financial 9/11: Why the next catastrophic terror attack won't target physical buildings, but rather critical financial data servers designed to wipe out bank accounts. Trump Addresses Iran Meeting, AI Worries at United Nations

The people, companies and trends shaping the global economy. Watch Carol and Tim LIVE every day on YouTube: http://bit.ly/3vTiACFPresident Trump said US officials had a “very good” meeting with Iranian representatives, a rare direct encounter that offers a fresh opportunity to restart talks to end the nearly seven-month war. Trump didn’t provide details on who participated in the meeting, but referred to his special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who sat alongside the president. The US administration has signaled a renewed effort to end the war in the Middle East, with Trump claiming the conflict will end just after the November US midterm elections, if not before. Earlier on Tuesday in his UN address, Trump threatened to “annihilate” Iran if its officials don’t strike a deal. Meantime, President Trump dismissed calls for an international agreement to put guardrails around the development of artificial intelligence, brushing off concerns about the dangers of frontier models going rogue. On today's episode: Tyler Kendall, Bloomberg News Washington Correspondent & Nick Wadhams, Bloomberg News National Security Reporter Becca Wasser, Defense Lead for Bloomberg Economics Ellen Wald, Senior Fellow at The Atlantic Council Global Energy Center Mandeep Singh, Global Head of Technology Research for Bloomberg Intelligence See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Astrid Wilde: A Bright AI & Robotics Future

This was one of my favorite conversations so far this year. Astrid is the founder of Inheritance HQ. According to its website, the company “transforms observation into training data that robots and world models can learn from at scale, enabling capability to compound instead of restart with every newembodiment.” Don’t worry if you didn’t understand a word from that sentence. I didn’t either. Which is why I wanted to interview Astrid. We’re deeply curious (and bullish) about Physical AI and the Robotics thematic at MO over the next 18-24 months. However, I only had “outside” knowledge of the theme. In other words, I digested a bunch of bullish Big Investment Bank reports, but still craved the “boots on the ground” primary contact to pressure-test these assumptions. Astrid is that guy. Besides founding a Physical AI/robotics data company, Astrid is a great public markets investor. We spend a lot of time exploring his investment process, why doing less hasequaled more (read: higher returns), and how Astrid cultivated a strong network of people to feed him ideas. Please note that NONE OF THIS IS INVESTMENT ADVICE. IT IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. YOU ARE AN IDIOT IF YOU THINK ANY OF THIS IS INVESTMENT ADVICE. DO YOUR OWN WORK AND CONSULT A PROFESSIONAL BEFORE PUTTING ANY CAPITAL AT RISK.

UN General Assembly: will diplomacy talks help the global oil market?

We're assessing where a busy day of diplomacy at the UN General Assembly has left the global oil market. Face-to-face talks have begun between the US and Iran. But President Trump also concedes that a peace deal is unlikely before November. Can the stretched global oil supply survive that long? Also with Ed Butley, why are Xboxes on the wane, and why do women screenwriters write better movies? (Picture: 81st United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York City.
