Meet the Pro: Wildlife Photographer, Nelis Wolmarans

Host Toby Jermyn welcomes award-winning South African wildlife photographer and private guide Nelis Wolmarans, known for extensive experience with Africa’s great apes, including 131 gorilla treks. Nelis shares the story behind his grand-prize-winning Rwanda mountain gorilla mother-and-infant photo that was displayed at the Smithsonian, plus an encounter where a silverback charged, knocked him over, and sat on his legs. They discuss differences between Rwanda/DRC and Uganda gorilla habitats and permit prices, why two treks help guests settle into photographing gorillas, and practical guidance on settings and lens choices.
