    Episode 768 - The 15-Minute Rule

You have 1,440 minutes today. 15 of them especially matter. We're conditioned to believe that success comes from the big stuff: the breakthrough, the promotion, and the grand gesture. But in this episode, Phil makes the case that it's the opposite: the moments we remember most, the relationships that last, the lives we change, they almost never come from something dramatic. They come from something almost embarrassingly small. He calls it the 1% solution: 15 intentional minutes a day, split three ways, into yourself, into the people around you, and into someone else's future. It sounds too simple to matter. That's exactly the point. By the end, you'll never look at a coffee break the same way again. This week's challenge: find your 15 minutes. See what it builds.   Transcript Top performers in every field surround themselves with those who inspire them, who seek to build them up, and who push them to reach beyond their current limits. I'm Phil Buchanan, executive chairman of Cannon Financial Institute. I designed Monday Morning Mojo to provide you with a weekly spark, a push, and motivational insight to live your best life. Thanks for joining. Good Monday morning, Cannon Nation. It is Phil here with episode 768 of Monday Morning Mojo. Today, I'd like for us to focus on a simple number. Actually, it's a percent, and it's 1%. Now, a few months back, in episode 723, which was entitled Attack The Day, I referenced that 1% of our day equates to about 15 minutes. And in that episode, I spoke of how I try to allocate 1% of every day to learning something entirely new. But there are many ways to make a 1% investment each day that can have compounding impacts and effects on our lives. Now, most of us spend our time chasing big breakthroughs, major accomplishments, career milestones, life-changing moments, and I think we all believe that success comes from these massive actions, dramatic decisions, Herculean efforts. But I'd like to argue that the biggest changes in our lives come from something much smaller. See, we all have the exact same 1,440 minutes in a day, and of course, 1% of that is 15 minutes. That's about the length of a coffee break, a short walk, a chapter in a book, a phone call, a face-to-face conversation. Yet those 15 minutes, used intentionally, can compound into something extraordinary. Today, I want to challenge you with what I'm calling the 1% solution. Invest 1% of every day in three places: number one, in yourself; number two, in your relationships; and number three, in someone else's future. Item two, investing in your relationships When people reach the end of their lives, they rarely wish they had attended one more meeting or been on one more Zoom or spent more time at the office. They rarely wish they had answered one more email But what I'm told they remember most are the people in their lives, the conversations, the connections, the relationships. Fifteen minutes a day can strengthen a friendship. Fifteen minutes a day can deepen a marriage. Fifteen minutes a day can be spent encouraging a child. Fifteen minutes can be spent reconnecting with an old mentor. Fifteen minutes can heal a strained relationship. So pick up the phone and call someone. Perhaps write a note. Perhaps take a walk and talk with your spouse. Ask your son or daughter a very meaningful question that goes beyond, "How was your day?" Tell someone you're proud of them. Tell someone thank you. Tell someone you love them. The relationships that matter most rarely require grand gestures. More often, they require consistent attention The truth is that love is often spelled T-I-M-E. And fifteen intentional minutes can communicate more love than an expensive gift ever could. Item three: investing in someone else's future. Now, this is where the magic really happens. The greatest leaders understand something important. Success is not just about what you accomplish. It's about what continues because you were there. Fifteen minutes spent mentoring a young professional. Fifteen minutes introducing two people who should know one another. Fifteen minutes spent encouraging someone who is struggling. Fifteen minutes spent helping another person solve a problem. You will likely never fully understand the impact that fifteen minutes can make, how a conversation can change a career, how a piece of advice can change a decision, how an introduction could change a life, how a word of encouragement could arrive at exactly the moment it was needed. You know, many of us can identify several people who have changed our lives. Perhaps they were teachers, coaches, parents, mentors, friends. And the truth is, most of them never realized the impact they had on you. But those individuals simply invested a few moments in someone else's, that being you, your future. Well, now it's our turn. So this week, I have a challenge for you. Find your one percent, fifteen intentional minutes. Invest part of it in yourself, invest part of it in your relationships, and invest part of it in someone else's future. Because extraordinary lives are rarely built in extraordinary moments. They are built through ordinary moments repeated consistently An hour becomes a day, a day becomes a week, a week becomes a month, a month becomes a year, a year becomes a life. One day, we'll all look back and realize that the biggest changes in our lives came not from the huge decisions, but from the small daily investments that seemed oh so insignificant at the time. Fifteen minutes, one percent, a lifetime of impact Monday Morning Mojo is a production of Cannon Financial Institute. Executive producer of Monday Morning Mojo is Sarah Jones.
