That Joy Did Not Come by Accident

Hello, hello, hello, beautiful souls. Let’s talk about leading life with joy. Because most of us have been brought up to believe that joy is the destination. I’ll be happy when I have my body looking a certain way.I’ll be happy when I have this amount of money in the bank account.I’ll be happy when I’m single. When I’m married. When I have this title. This many followers. I’ll be happy when. And then where does that get you? I have achieved a lot of incredible things in my life, and none of them made me happy in the way I thought they would. Because there was something else. There was always something else. And what happens when we keep looking for something to give us happiness, something to give us joy, something to fulfil us? We keep waiting to feel the way we want to feel. On this magical carpet ride of life, we get to start asking why we believe the next achievement is going to give us that. And whether we’re willing to start living with joy now. “But Carol, you don’t understand.” This, this, and this is happening. And he and they and them and the government and the weather and, oh my God. I hear it. I hear it. I hear it. And I love you. I need you to know that everything I will ever say is with love. The only reason I come at you straight and direct is because I had to come at myself straight and direct. I don’t talk about, teach, or live from any area in life that I have not lived from and through and continue to. I’m a human with a brain, too. But when you start to understand that you don’t have to believe every thought that brain gives you? Woo. The world opens up, my friend. If you meet me now, you haven’t met all the versions of me. You haven’t met the versions of me that showed up in full ego. The versions that showed up needing your approval. The versions that thought when I had the body, the titles, the covers, the millions, the accolades, then I had made it. And while I did achieve all of that and more, it was a breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 49, in 2019, that wiped that all away. You would think that would be life’s greatest lesson right there. You would think that would be enough to shake you and shift you and wake you up. And that would make sense. You would say, “That makes sense, Carol, that you’re now living in joy after being faced with that diagnosis. That word. And where your brain would go.” But what you wouldn’t know—what I didn’t know was coming—was that some of my greatest lessons were still ahead of me. My greatest opportunity to tune into the thing that cancer had given me an awareness of. Five years of the most painful heartache and devastation in my life. Things that, for me, felt more terrifying than a cancer diagnosis. Looking through the lens of being alone in my 50s. I was married for the second time, and there was an unravelling of that marriage happening. And it went on and it went on and it went on. It caused me to go deeper into myself. To listen to my soul. To learn how to be my greatest love, my greatest cheerleader, my greatest hype girl, my greatest validation. And in that space, I really started to understand the truth of me. All of the things went away. The body went away. The money went away. The relationships went away. The titles. What I was known for. I took it all down, and I never felt better. Can you imagine that? I certainly couldn’t have before. But I started to understand the peace and the joy and the love I could feel, regardless of all of the things. And that is what brings me here. Because the joy you see now did not come by accident. It did not come without the greatest amount of work on me. I had done and done and done. I’ve been in the personal development space for over 16 years. I’ve read the books. Had the mentors. Had the coaches. Done and done and done and done and done. But I hadn’t lived and lived and lived and lived and lived. There’s a difference between knowing and doing. There’s a big gap. And for me, what started closing that gap? Joy. Joy. Joy. Joy. Frequency. I started to play around with this crazy concept that it wasn’t about doing more. It was about who I was being. The energy I had. I had to learn to separate my emotions from my actions. I had to learn that my thoughts were not my truth. I’m the thinker of my thoughts. They do not make me me. And I had to learn how to go from the desperation and the absolute low to reaching for the next best thought. The next best thought. That became something I could practise. I carry a magic wand. Yes, really. I started to really play around with the law of attraction. With this concept: “You don’t get in life what you want. You get in life what you are a vibrational match for.” That became a way for me to look at who I was being. What I was saying. What I was paying attention to. And I realised how much of my language was about the things I did not want. I always talk about magic wands, so I carry one with me. All the time. Everywhere. Because I wanted that reminder. What am I creating with the words I keep speaking? What am I making room for? What am I expecting to see? And I said, “No, no. No more. No more.” If I can create magic, I’m going to create the most magic. I am going to live in the healthiest body. I am going to have the most incredible connections. I am going to have the most joy. I am going to let magic lead me. Allow the magic of the in-between. So many of us are overthinking, stinking thinking our way through life, trying to need to know all the steps. And I was right there. Unwilling to surrender. To allow. To allow the magic of the in-between. I started asking myself about the feeling of the goal achieved. What does the money give you? For some people, $5,000 a month would feel incredible. For some of you, it’s a million. But what is the feeling you’re after? What is the feeling of having a body that thrives? Of the way you walk into a room? It’s the feeling. It’s the feeling you’re after. And I say this with all the love and respect as a woman who was the fittest of the fit, then completely lost it, and now has never felt better in her entire life at 56 years old. I spent a decade as a fitness pro. Work out and diet. Work out and diet. I looked great, but there were times I felt like garbage. Now? I work out. Absolutely.I lift weights. Absolutely.I get my steps. Absolutely. My protein. Absolutely. It is fun. It is joyful. The way I feel about myself has changed the way I care for myself. And I blow my own mind. You’ve got the guide. You know the way. There is no done. We’re never there, and that’s the magic of being alive. It is my goal and my purpose to help every woman who is willing to take responsibility learn to tap in and tune in to her soul. Because you have this inner GPS. I know you’ve heard it. But we get all this extra noise. Extra noise. We’re looking for all the stuff. Looking for somebody else to tell us the answer. Trying to know every step before we’ll take one. And we can’t trust our magic without being able to hear her first. Honour her. Heal her. You get to learn how to be your greatest love. Your greatest cheerleader. Your greatest hype girl. Your greatest validation. You get to care about what is true for you. Because what is the purpose of being on this earth if it sucks? If we have to push and grind and suck it out to get the achievement? F no. Not on my watch. Your mess is your magic. When you see me dancing, when you see me joyful, when you follow my social media, none of that is b******t. Everything is authentic. Everything is 100% me. Truly, my core. Because I’ve learned to take responsibility for finding out who I am without the noise. And that came from, let me remind you, the darkest, most painful, most scary, most uncertain times of my life. I say your mess is your magic, and I honour and own it with everything that I have. So, beautiful soul, what have you been saying you’ll be happy when? What is the feeling you’re actually after? And what would it look like to reach for the next best thought today? I want you to repeat after me. I say this every morning: Today is a magical day, and I have the power to make it so. Because you do. Peace,Carol Elizabeth Get full access to Trust Your Magic 🪄 at iamcarolelizabeth.substack.com/subscribe

Who’s Got the Mic? Reclaiming Your Power, Joy, and Frequency

Trust Your Magic: Inner Voice, Joy, and Taking Back Control In this solo episode, CE shares a personal coaching reflection about the voices running our lives and why the one “holding the mic” matters most. The core message is simple but challenging: your results are shaped by who you are being, not just what you are trying to fix. CE walks through a shift from blame, burnout, and over-control to joy, responsibility, and identity change. The episode centers on frequency, self-talk, and choosing actions that align with the version of you you want to become. Take the U4 Quiz HERE and se who’s holding your mic Key topics In this episode: CE breaks down three inner voices: the inner critic, the inner seeker, and the inner coach, then adds an inner guide or inner soul voice as the part that knows the way. Whoever has the mic is in charge: The loudest inner voice tends to shape decisions, emotions, and results. Results follow identity, not the other way around: CE argues that changes in body, money, relationships, and mindset start with who you are being. Blame keeps people stuck: She shares how she once blamed menopause, cancer, business setbacks, and relationship issues before realizing responsibility had to come back to her. Joy is treated as a strategy: Instead of forcing progress, CE says prioritizing joy, energy, and emotional state led to real changes in her body and business. Frequency and focus matter: What you focus on grows, and focusing on lack repeatedly produced more of the same for her. You do not get what you want, you get who you are: The episode returns often to the idea that identity and vibration shape outcomes. Thoughts are not truth: CE reminds listeners that they are the thinker of their thoughts, not their thoughts themselves. Tiny nudges build momentum: Small intuitive actions like walking, calling someone, posting, or going somewhere can become the steps to larger transformation. Self-talk affects everything: She emphasizes that the body, bank account, and relationships all “hear” how you speak to yourself. Timestamps 00:00 - Why this conversation mattered more than the planned podcast 00:27 - The inner critic, inner seeker, and inner coach 00:55 - Why the voice holding the mic shapes your life 01:24 - You can change your body, mindset, money, and relationships 01:50 - The long list of excuses CE once used to explain her problems 02:16 - Taking responsibility for energy instead of blame 02:46 - Discovering energetics during a devastating season 03:11 - Using control tendencies to manage frequency 03:38 - Choosing joy over forcing strategy 04:02 - Letting go of stories and watching change happen 04:31 - How joy led to 35 pounds lost and business growth 05:00 - What happened when she stopped trying to make everything happen 05:30 - Why CE keeps repeating the basics in a social media world 05:56 - The fundamentals: choose joy, release the hammering, change results 06:23 - You get who you are and what you focus on 06:48 - Why she keeps reminding people they have the power to change 07:10 - Responsibility, therapy, and staying out of the old story 07:37 - Wanting the feeling behind the goal, not just the goal itself 08:06 - Identity first: becoming the person before the result arrives 08:34 - Protecting your energy from chaos and outside noise 08:59 - You are not your thoughts, you are the thinker 09:22 - Feeling bad as a signal that you are off your soul path 09:46 - Letting go and trusting God, Universe, or Source 09:55 - Small nudges, creativity, and listening for direction 1 0:25 - Becoming your own best friend and greatest mentor 10:56 - The U4 framework quiz and discovering which voice has the mic 11:22 - Why negative self-talk backfires 11:51 - The restaurant metaphor for asking the universe for what you don’t want 12:16 - Stop feeding the story that keeps you stuck 12:34 - Control your life, but in a new, softer way 12:57 - A final reminder that peace and joy are available now Take the UF Quiz HERE - Who's holding the MIC Get full access to Trust Your Magic 🪄 at iamcarolelizabeth.substack.com/subscribe

You Can't Compare Your Beginning to Somebody Else's Middle

I just sat at the mic today to riff… as I used to, but have not in a while because I got caught up in the “should’s” I was sixteen, seventeen, driving an ‘85 Toyota Tercel with a CB radio my dad got me hooked up to, working as a courier in the summer. The dispatcher would call an address over the radio, I’d holler my number back, and then I’d flip through this giant paper map book trying to find the street before anyone got impatient! That was the job. That was the whole job. I’m telling you this because I didn’t know my soul was always meant to be an entrepreneur. I just knew I hated bosses, and I hated anything that felt like Groundhog Day. So I worked restaurants, bars, pharma sales, courier routes — sixteen years of building an income as myself, for myself, before I ever called it a brand or a business. I want you to sit with that math for a second. Because right now, somewhere in your feed, there’s a woman talking about the launch that made her five million dollars in thirty days. And I need you to know — you don’t know the story of what it took her to get there. You’re looking at her middle and measuring it against your beginning, and that math will never, ever add up in your favor. You cannot compare your beginning to somebody else’s middle!! I have done it time and time again. It used to piss me off… now I see it as proof, AND I have to allow my own timeline to be what it is! I know I have created a life that many would love to have. I honour that, I am grateful for that, and still, I have not scratched the surface of what I am on this earth for. Neither have YOU. The closet When I started my podcast in 2018, I hired someone to help me get the audio right. I literally emptied out my closet and hid in there to record, because I needed the sound quality to be spectacular! Here’s what actually happened: I’d get the download — the real thing to say, the honest truth that wanted to come through me — and then I’d have to go set everything up. Get in the closet. Check the mic. Make sure the lighting was right for video. Make sure it had three points and a hook and a call to action. By the time all of that was in place, the moment was gone. My purpose on this earth is to shake people up and wake them up by speaking honest truths. If I have to build a whole production around that before I’m allowed to say it, it isn’t happening. I fell into the trap of thinking things had to look a certain way to be heard, and every time I did something because that’s how someone else did it, I cut off a piece of my soul. My power is in riffing! Not in the edit. Not in the perfect setup. In the moment I’m tuned in and I just let it come through. The dog whistle The same person who helped me with that first podcast once gave me an actual dog whistle. The message behind it: only dogs can hear that sound. Not every ear is built for it. Only certain you’s are meant to hear me!! I am not here for every single person to like what I say or fully get what I’m putting down. And when I really understood that — that I wasn’t failing if I wasn’t for everyone — that’s when I stopped trying to sound like the woman in the beige office with the gauze wrapped around her, quoting all the laws of the universe. That’s when I stopped performing “coach” and started just being the person who talks to you like you’re already the smartest, most capable woman in the room, because you are. If what I say vibrates in you, you’ll know. And if it doesn’t, that’s not a verdict on either of us. That’s just the whistle doing what it’s built to do. Zero, again Here’s the part I almost didn’t say out loud: I am fifty-six years old, and I am in a start-up position again! I am at zero. And I know — I know — that the best any of us ever are is right at the beginning, before we know enough to talk ourselves out of it. I’ve built businesses from a Facebook group before. I’ve gone to zero dollars and past zero into a negative bank account before. And every single time, the thing that gets me through is not a strategy or a system. It’s following the feeling. Following the feeling is the strategy!! Not the how, not the growth chart, not the twelve-step funnel. The impulse. The download. The thing that’s already inside you, that doesn’t need you to find where you wrote it down before, because your power is in the riffing, not the archive. What’s actually on my arm I have fine-line tattoos I call my little Post-it notes, so I don’t forget. One of them is a message from my mom’s journal, found after she died: I am great! — with her exclamation point, in her handwriting. Another is a sun rising out of water, because there’s a particular beauty at the water’s edge in the early morning light. It’s the beauty of the becoming! The joy was never in the followers or the dollars. It was always in following me! So — of everything here, what do you want more of?! Each tangent I went on has its own episode and article for sure! So what do you want me to go deeper on! Hit reply or drop it in the comments!! Tell me which one, and that’s the essay I’m writing next. As I always say and sometimes forget…. Today is a magical day. You have the power to make it so. ✨ I also got the greatest download of what challenge I am going to run for August and I can’t wait to get it out to you!!! Today I turn 56!

56 - I am so happy to see you. What seemed so far away at some point is now here. I am grateful for this life. For life To live To be alive. Life - Live - Alive. Those words carry so much more meaning as we age. What does it mean to truly live life alive? To me, it means waking up to the truth of you. For you, not them. We get ‘warnings everywhere’ “The days are long but the years are few” “Just to live does not mean you’re alive’ “Life, it’s a fast ride” However, we pay no mind. Somehow we think that this does not apply to us. We spend so many years, and decades trying tot fit in. To change who we are based on what we see from others. To live up to someone else’s expectations. We get further and further away from our truth. From our soul and our spirit. We go through life desperate to avoid pain and heartache. Like if we don’t rock the boat we can avoid it. What silly fools we are. For it is only with the sadness that we can truly experience joy. It is because of suffering that we learn how resilient we are. It is in the resistance that we find our strength. To convince ourself that things are “fine”, that life is “good’ is doing our life a disservice. You are not here on earth for fine & good. I am not willing to die with my magic inside of me. We think that the value in life is what we get. The things we have, the achievments. That’s not it. It’s in the ability to honour our soul. What lights her up? What whispers to you in the still of the mornings? The goosebumps you get when you read something that lands. When you feel a message was made just for you. It was. Your assignment….. Live this life, fully alive Feel the feelings Take the chances Follow the nudges Let go of the how Tap into the who. Who you were meant to be, day after day, year after year, decade after decade. For as long as you are meant to be. BE, xoxo Me ( CE) Get full access to Trust Your Magic 🪄 at iamcarolelizabeth.substack.com/subscribe

I am an introvert and no one knows it!

People really never, ever believe I am an introvert. I am always classified a RED, a DRIVER a DOER. A person who feeds off attention and wants to be around people all the time. Truly that could not be further from the truth. At my core I love to be alone with space to think and create. Striving to “be the best” and “get to the top” has never been who I am. I have created incredible businesses that all have to do with people, yes, but it is the type of people that really matters. I have stood on stages in front of 15,000 to deliver key note speeches, will grab the mic and speak with a passion that shakes the room, and then retreat to whatever quiet space I can find to hermit up! Most people drain me. Too much going on makes me crazy. Slow mornings with myself and my thoughts are pure luxury. Wandering the streets and observing life is like living in a movie for me. When I tell people I am not this whatever it takes girl, they never believe me. Ever. Is it because I have strutted around the fitness stages wearing hardly anything that makes them think I NEED attention? Is it because I have become the top of all the companies I have ever partnered with? Is it because I have a podcast, a book and a robust social media world? Is it because I can enter a room and feel grounded in who I am with no need to “fit it” Who knows. The truth is, all of my success and my visibility is because my personal mission is stronger than my desire to stay quiet. I speak up to create awareness. I share my life lessons to be of service to others. I am a story teller. I am an agent of change. I own that mission from my soul. That comes with being seen. My groundedness comes from all the work I have done within myself. I am a situational extrovert. When I care deeply about something I will take up space and be BOLD. The balance is required in my life. I have also learned that people can think whatever they want to. That’s the freedom of knowing you. Others opinions don’t matter. It’s also why putting labels on ourselves or others is such a telling thing around what we feel about ourself. Here is what I know as my truth, heading into turning 56. I am. and that is f’king epic.
