Healthy Aging: Why Taking Care of Yourself Is a Gift to Those You Love!

Send a text for comments or topics ideas! "You matter. Your health matters. Not just for you, but for everyone who loves you." And I think we need to talk about that. Because we often think about our health as a personal responsibility. I want to lose weight. I want more energy. I want to feel better in my body. I want to get stronger. I want to live longer. And yes—all of those things matter. But there is another side to the conversation. When you invest in your physical, mental, and emotional health, you're also investing in the people who love you. You're giving yourself a better chance of staying independent. You're increasing your capacity to participate in the life you want to live. You're potentially reducing the amount of care others may have to provide for you down the road. And perhaps most importantly, you're giving the people who love you the gift of having more life with you. That doesn't mean we can prevent every illness. We can't control every diagnosis, every injury, or every circumstance that life puts in front of us. Her father's story is a perfect reminder of that. But there is a lot we can influence. We can stop ignoring the pain that keeps showing up. We can stop telling ourselves that we're too old to get stronger. We can stop waiting until our health becomes an emergency before we decide it matters. We can challenge the myths and the all-or-nothing thinking that keep us from taking care of ourselves today. 💛Your Health Is Not Selfish I want to take that idea a little further, because I think there's something we need to give ourselves permission to believe: 💛Taking care of your health is not selfish. And yet, how many of us feel guilty about it? We feel guilty taking an hour to exercise. We feel guilty spending money on our health. We feel guilty going to an appointment, taking a nap, preparing a healthy meal, or simply setting a boundary because we need some time for ourselves. But what if we looked at that differently? What if taking care of yourself isn't taking something away from your family? What if it's actually an investment in the years you get to share with them? We've all seen the difference. Think about the parent who can still get on the roller coaster with their kids. The grandparent who can get down on the floor and build Legos, play dolls, wrestle with the grandkids—and, just as importantly, get back up. Those aren't really fitness goals. They're life goals. If you are enjoying this topic, I can't wait for you to tune in! 📌Connect with Lindsey House:    • Website: https://www.healthaccountabilitycoach.com    • Podcast: https://www.healthaccountabilitycoach.com/podcast-1    • YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@directionnotperfectionpodcast 💛 If you’re tired of chasing quick fixes and want simple weight loss tips that actually work, sustainable fitness and nutrition guidance, and real-life weight loss strategies, you’re in the right place. Move Better, Hurt Less: An Athletic Trainer's Guide to Lifelong Health - with Erin Beckwith

Send a text for comments or topics ideas! 👉 Does this sound like you? "I've become incredibly good at finding workarounds... and eventually, I'm worried that those compensations will become my new normal."  Being active is key to living a healthy lifestyle. In order to stay active, we need to take care of our bodies. We all occasionally suffer injuries ranging from minor inconveniences all the way to severe, life changing incidents. Today I interviewed Athletic Trainer, Erin Lewis. Erin’s education and training enable her to focus on rehabilitating patients who are recovering from injury. She is able to adapt and modify exercises to best meet the needs of each individual.  Erin works with students, everyday individuals and chronically ill patients (such as those with Fibromyalgia and MS, to give them a better quality of life). Everyone is different in the way a disease affects them so she tailors her training to help them where they are at. Her philosophy is to take it day by day and don’t be afraid to “start low and slow” and build up to what they can tolerate. Weekend warriors and generally active people often downplay injuries. They ignore small hurts or develop ways to work around them hoping they will go away on their own. They will end up compensating later in life.  If it has been several weeks since an injury, you should feel healed. If you don’t, you need to consult a professional like Erin, address the injury and take proper action toward a full recovery, not just a workaround that will one day come back to haunt you. Injuries do not just disappear. They may hide for a while, but they will resurface, possibly affecting a completely different area that has been compromised by your compensation. There are steps you could be taking to decrease pain or increase limited movement. If you don't know where to start, a primary physician can be a great jump off point for referrals. You need to take time to listen to your body. Just breathe. If you can do that you are living, and you can build from there. Stop Trying to Stay Young—Learn How to Age Strong- with Jerzy Gregorek

Send a text for comments or topics ideas! 🤔What if getting older didn't have to mean getting weaker? What if you could actually be stronger, more flexible, and more resilient at 70 than you were at 30? That's the question our guest today has spent decades exploring—and proving that vitality isn't reserved for the young. In fact, he believes that with the right approach, we can build strength, mobility, resilience, and a deeper sense of well-being at virtually any stage of life. As a co-creator of The Happy Body Program, he teaches an approach built around micro-progression, mindful training, and emotional intelligence—because creating a healthier, stronger body isn't just about what happens during your workout. It's also about the small choices you make every day and the way you learn to work with yourself rather than against yourself. We're talking about what it really means to age well, why small consistent progress can create remarkable results over time, and how physical strength and emotional resilience are deeply connected. 👉Because maybe aging isn't about losing your vitality. Maybe it's about learning how to build a body, mindset, and life that become stronger with every decade. 📌Connect with Jerzy Gregorek:    • Website: https://thehappybody.com/    • YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@UCS5Nf1BxwzwdqdS1ccN8_bg    • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HardChoicesEasyLife 📌Connect with Lindsey House:    • Website: https://www.healthaccountabilitycoach.com    • Podcast: https://www.healthaccountabilitycoach.com/podcast-1    • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/houselifestyles 💛 If you’re tired of chasing quick fixes and want simple weight loss tips that actually work, sustainable fitness and nutrition guidance, and real-life weight loss strategies, you’re in the right place. Mindfulness, Emotional Eating & Lasting Weight Loss - with Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Laurie Bruce

Send a text for comments or topics ideas! Do you ever find yourself eating when you're not physically hungry? If so, you're not alone—and you're certainly not lacking willpower. In this episode of Direction Not Perfection, Lindsey sits down with clinical psychologist, mindfulness coach, and host of From Both Sides of the Couch, Dr. Laurie Bruce, to explore what emotional eating really is—and why understanding it is one of the most important steps toward lasting health. For many women, emotional eating isn't simply about food. It's a learned coping strategy that develops over years of managing stress, overwhelm, loneliness, anxiety, perfectionism, and the constant pressure to care for everyone else before themselves. Rather than focusing on guilt or restriction, Dr. Bruce shares how mindfulness, nervous system regulation, self-compassion, and rebuilding self-trust can help us create a healthier relationship with food—and with ourselves. If you've ever wondered why you know what to do but struggle to follow through, this conversation will leave you feeling understood, hopeful, and equipped with practical ways to begin healing from the inside out. 👉In This Episode You'll Learn: What emotional eating really is (and what it isn't)Why emotional eating has very little to do with willpowerHow stress and your nervous system influence eating behaviorsWhy so many women disconnect from themselves in midlifeThe role mindfulness plays in changing eating patternsHow self-compassion creates more lasting change than self-criticismPractical ways to reconnect with your body and build self-trustWhy understanding yourself is the first step toward sustainable health👉Remember: Emotional eating isn't a sign that you've failed. It's often a signal that something deeper needs your attention. Healing begins when we replace judgment with curiosity and create space to understand what our emotions are trying to tell us.
