Vinton Street Silos, TreeRush & Oktoberfest

What’s happening in Omaha this week? We’re covering a proposed redevelopment of the Vinton Street grain silos, fall events and activities around the Omaha metro, TreeRush Adventures at Fontenelle Forest, Oktoberfest, local restaurants and a brand-new attraction opening on the Council Bluffs riverfront. We start with the future of the old grain elevator and silos along Vinton Street in Omaha, Nebraska. A redevelopment proposal could demolish much of the familiar industrial landmark to make way for four apartment buildings with 233 market-rate units. The Hurrdat ONE team talks about Omaha’s growth and a question facing a changing city: when should old Omaha landmarks be preserved, and when does redevelopment make sense? Jill previews TreeRush Adventures at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska, a three-hour outdoor climbing experience featuring aerial courses, zip lines, bridges and obstacles through the forest. Dan visits Sauced by Alfaro in Papillion, Nebraska, as part of his search for some of the Omaha metro’s best food. He tries the Jalapeño Popper Cheesesteak and explains why he considers it one of the best sandwiches he’s had in the area. We also talk about supporting chef and owner Michelle Alfaro and her local restaurant. Colette previews the new Borman Family Treetop Walk and MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower opening on the Council Bluffs riverfront near the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, with climbing, rollgliding, simulated caving and elevated woodland trails. Looking for fall things to do around Omaha? We also visit Ditmars Orchard in Council Bluffs, recap Habitat for Humanity Omaha’s Brew Haha at Heartwood Preserve and preview Oktoberfest at the German American Society in Omaha. In Rapid Fire, we cover the Heartland Plein Air Festival, the Gothic Art & Literature Festival at Joslyn Castle, the final weeks of Omaha-area farmers markets and a 24-hour pizza vending machine in Lincoln, Nebraska. 00:00 Omaha This Week 00:40 Vinton Street Silos Redevelopment in Omaha 04:20 TreeRush Adventures at Fontenelle Forest 11:55 Can Any of Us Actually Run a Mile? 16:25 Sauced by Alfaro in Papillion 21:20 New Council Bluffs Adventure Tower 28:25 Ditmars Orchard in Council Bluffs 33:15 Brew Haha at Heartwood Preserve 37:50 Omaha Oktoberfest at German American Society 43:10 Omaha Events & Things to Do: Rapid Fire 43:20 Heartland Plein Air Festival 45:10 Gothic Art & Literature Festival at Joslyn Castle 47:15 Omaha Farmers Market Season Is Ending 48:30 Lincoln’s 24-Hour Pizza Vending Machine 51:20 Question of the Week: Umbrella or Run? 56:00 Omaha This Week Wrap Up Omaha This Week is Hurrdat ONE’s weekly guide to what’s happening around Omaha and eastern Nebraska, including local news, events, restaurants, businesses, attractions and stories worth knowing.
