Open Real Estate: Four Brokerage Giants Bet on a More Transparent Housing Market

Four of the nation’s largest real estate brokerages are betting that a more open, connected approach to listing data can improve transparency and give consumers a clearer view of the housing market. In this special edition of HousingWire Daily hosted by Tracey Velt, the CEOs of HomeServices of America, Real RE/MAX Group, AGNT Inc. (eXp Realty and NextHome) and Keller Williams Realty discuss Open Real Estate, a new industry initiative designed to create a comprehensive, centralized listing database without replacing local MLSs. The group says the founding companies will fund the initial infrastructure, with a target launch in Q1 2027, while technology partners, independent governance and industry participation remain key next steps. The platform is intended to accommodate both private and publicly marketed listings while preserving consumer choice and creating a more level playing field for brokerages of all sizes. The biggest challenges ahead include selecting technology partners, establishing data-sharing agreements and addressing antitrust concerns. Ultimately, the CEOs say success means consumers and agents can access complete, reliable listing information without having to think about the complex infrastructure behind it. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn: Strong agents act as trusted client advisers. Measure brokerage value by what agents gain, not just the split. Use AI to create more time for human connection. Build a plan around relationships and repeat client touchpoints. Prepare teams for succession before a transition is needed. Answer the phone—and follow up. Super hard to follow these episodes. He uses soo many insider references. Jumps all around from topic to topic. A lot of opinions and not a not of clear facts or substance. I don’t know what I can glean down these reports to clearly relay to my clients. Super disappointing. I’ve listened to so many of these episodes and I always walk away trying to figure out what this guy is saying. Please find another expert.

This can be entertaining. But keep in mind it’s an infomercial for the real estate industry. The “expert” that comes on is a complete hack and shill for the industry. “Home price growth is slowing down and people should jump for joy.” Anyone who points out fundamental flaws in the housing market is a “doomer.” That said, i am shocked they aren’t supportive of 50 year mortgages. They do love ARMs of course. If you’re a lender or agent, listen to sources other than this if you want a real education, and don’t want to regurgitate lies to your clients.

Serious people know this is the blind leading the blind and he constantly tries to rationalize the irrational actions taken by this administration and he’s been wrong at every turn.
