    What Are the Chapters Doing? | July 2026 | Service and Remembrance

    Continental Congress is so much more than business meetings, formal meals, forums, and fellowship. With thousands of DAR members gathering in our nation’s capital from across the country and around the world, Congress becomes a meaningful opportunity to show tangible appreciation, gratitude, and remembrance for those who have served the United States of America. In this July edition of “What Are the Chapters Doing?” Haley Lancaster, National Vice Chair Writer and Editor, highlights several moving acts of tribute that took place during the week of the 135th Continental Congress. From Arizona Daughters honoring the Marine Corps Body Bearers near the DAR Founders Memorial, to Ohio, Tennessee, and Indiana Daughters making special pilgrimages to Mount Vernon, this episode reflects the heart of remembrance and patriotic service. Listeners will also hear about the Louisiana Daughters’ solemn wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The episode closes with a deeply personal story of sisterhood and service. Katie Siebel of the Constantia Chapter in Suffolk, Virginia, brought her trumpet to Congress and, at the request of her roommate Gloria Womble, played TAPS at Arlington National Cemetery beside the graves of Gloria’s parents. Gloria’s father, Master Sergeant Gerald Eugene Kightlinger, was a Vietnam veteran who served more than 21 years in the military. These powerful moments remind us why Daughters gather, why we remember, and why we continue to serve—honoring legacies both grand and personal, one act of gratitude at a time.     What are Chapters Doing?

    In this special Legacy Trilogy Edition of the DAR Today Podcast, we celebrate the return of What Are Chapters Doing?, hosted by National Vice Chair, writer, and editor Haley Lancaster. Haley’s debut segment shines a spotlight on the meaningful service of DAR chapters and members across the country, beginning with the Mall Hands on Deck Cleanup Project at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. Ahead of Continental Congress, DAR volunteers will join together in service to help care for the iconic Japanese cherry blossom trees and the historic landscape surrounding the National Mall.   This episode highlights the power of conservation, civic engagement, and community partnership through the DAR Service to America Committee, DAR Conservation Committee, the National Park Service, and the Trust for the National Mall. It also celebrates the National Society’s Gift to the Nation donation during the Storage Administration, supporting the long-term preservation of the Cherry Tree Endowment.     Legacy Edition: 135th Continental Congress 2026

    135th Continental Congress 2026 June 24 - 28, 2026   Join more than 3,500 Daughters from across the country and overseas as we convene in our nation’s capital each June. Continental Congress provides members with an opportunity to be inspired about the ideals, spirit, and work of the DAR. National, State and Chapter leaders as well as other members from across the world meet at DAR Headquarters to report on the year’s work, honor outstanding award recipients, plan future initiatives and reconnect with friends. The week-long convention consists of business sessions, committee meetings, social functions, and is topped off with formal evening ceremonies: Opening Night, Education Awards Night and National Defense Night.     A Nation Remembered: May's Patriotic Call

    In this patriotic May episode of the DAR Today Podcast, we are honored to feature the National Chair of the Flag of the United States Committee, Jeanne McMillan for a meaningful conversation on the history, symbolism, and enduring importance of the American Flag.
