Party's Over: How Devil Wears Prada 2 Addresses the Downturn of the Luxury Industry (BONUS EPISODE)

Two decades after the original cultural phenomenon, the Devil Wears Prada sequel arrives as a stark case study in industrial decline. In this episode, we analyze the film’s "hyper-realistic" pivot—moving away from theatrical fantasy toward the grim reality of "undertaker" consulting firms and the commodification of heritage brands. We explore the transition from editorial authority to the "Retail-First" era of Dior and other luxury brands, and why the film’s portrayal of the rich but tasteless executive class is a chillingly accurate reflection of the current white-collar landscape. -- Support this podcast by leaving a 5 star rating and review! Zuck at Prada: Meta’s $3 Billion Bet on Your Face

After a staggering $90 billion loss on the Metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg is pivoting. But this time, he’s not building a virtual world—he’s buying into a physical one. We’re breaking down the strategic brilliance (and desperation) behind Meta’s rumored stake in EssilorLuxottica and why the tech giant is using Prada as a trojan horse to get smart glasses onto your face. From the failure of Google Glass to the "aesthetic hardware" revolution, we discuss why tech is finally waving a white flag to the fashion industry. Note- somewhere in this episode I mentioned that Dior is licensed to EssilorLuxottica. I misspoke and was thinking of Chanel! (P.S.- This is our last episode of the season! How Nordstrom is Fighting the Wall Street Curse of Retail

In 2026, the map of American luxury has been redrawn. As Saks Global struggles with debt and "unloved" merchandise, the Nordstrom family is playing a different game. This episode deconstructs the Wall Street vs. Heritage paradox. Today, we’re looking at why "The Right to Linger" is the most profitable strategy in retail. From integrated F&B to empowered stylist-led service, we explore how Nordstrom is harkening back to the 1950s service model to win a 2026 audience. How is Nordstrom using privatization to build a "Human Moat" that e-commerce (and AI) can't touch? -- Support this podcast by leaving a 5 star rating and review! When Branding Doesn’t Grow Up: Why Millennials are Swapping Glossier for Merit

In less than 10 years, Glossier went from a $1.8B unicorn to a cautionary tale of layoffs and identity crises. They were the blueprint for the "No-Makeup" Millennial—but what happens when that girl grows up? This week, we analyze the business metrics behind the shift from Glossier Pink to Merit Gold. We discuss why Merit Beauty is winning the war for the adult Millennial wallet and the "Product-Market Fit" mistake that cost Glossier its crown. We contrast Glossier’s "sticker sheet" marketing with Merit’s high-performance minimalism to ask: Should you chase the next generation of youth, or evolve with the one that made you famous? -- Support this podcast by leaving a 5 star rating and review! Tom Ford 2.0? An Ex-Buyer’s Post-Mortem on the New Gucci

In 2025, Gucci’s wholesale revenue plummeted by 34%. This isn't just a "bad season"—it’s a vote of no confidence from the entire industry. Enter: Demna as Creative Director and the reprisal of Tom Ford Gucci. Everyone is obsessed with the Tom Ford Gucci era, and Demna knows it. But is serving up "Internet Discourse" on a platter enough to save a sinking ship? This week, we’re looking past the Kate Moss runway cameo to the brutal math of the Kering Group. Why did they let Alessandro Michele walk away? Was appointing Demna a strategic masterstroke or a sign of terminal desperation? As a former merchant and buyer, I’m breaking down why "Internet Mania" is a dangerous bet when 41% of a conglomerate’s revenue is on the line. -- Support this podcast by leaving a 5 star rating and review! Why NYFW is "Boring" Now (And Why That’s Actually Okay)

Is New York Fashion Week losing its pulse? In this episode, we break down why the "Big Two"—Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs—ditched the official calendar and why rising stars like Willy Chavarria are fleeing to Paris. We also dive deep into the elephant in the room: the Saks Fifth Avenue Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the $400 million debt shaking the industry. From the $136M owed to Chanel to the rise of "safe" fashion, we discuss why pragmatism is the only way to survive the falling American "empire" cycle. -- Support this podcast by leaving a 5 star rating and review! The Zara Super Bowl: What Bad Bunny's Moment Says About the State of Luxury Fashion

If the biggest artist in the world is wearing Zara, does "tangible luxury" even exist anymore? This episode explores the transition from owning "stuff" to owning "experiences." Is "Quiet Luxury" being replaced by "Strategic Accessibility"? We break down the late-stage result of the pandemic spending boom: a world where there is no distinction between high-street and luxury craftsmanship, and why your next flex won't be an expensive bag, but it might be a plane ticket to a branded destination. -- Support this podcast by leaving a 5 star rating and review!
