Series 7, Episode 8: Dreaming like a Lover: The Art of Dream Courtship with Toko Pa

In this conversation, Toko-pa, a celebrated dream worker and author, introduces her unique approach to dream analysis through the 'Courtship Method.' Should you approach your dreams like a lover? This method emphasizes treating dreams as living beings with their own desires, rather than mere symbols to be interpreted. 'What does my dream long for?' asks Toko Pa. She discusses the keys to this method, including presence, curiosity, reflection, and synthesis, and illustrates these concepts with a case study of a dream involving a Catholic church. She also explores the importance of rituals in dream work, the connection between dreams and synchronicity, and the influence of Sufi perspectives on dreaming. The conversation concludes with insights into the evolution of Toko-pa's dream school and her ongoing work in the field of dream analysis. Toko Pa established her own dream school in 2001 based on her union and Sufi background with 100,000 dreamers coming out of her training. She has just released her latest book, The Dreaming Way, which has received the 2025 Nautilus Award for Personal Growth. Series 7, Episode 4: HELP! My Teeth Are Falling Out…What Do Scary Teeth Dreams Mean?

In this fun episode Laura is joined by co-host Rina Malin to investigate this age-old dream of our teeth falling out and what it might mean. Laura discusses her own childhood trauma around breaking a front tooth and going to the dentist and they look at whether this prevalent dream – or should that be nightmare? – is linked with old fears, anxieties and stresses. Is it linked with the psychological impact of impending life changes and transformations? They discuss Freudian and Kleinian psychodynamic theories about elimination and the annihilation of Self. As a drill starts up in the background they joke about being in the dentist chair and Dracula while looking at theories around teeth representing power, strength and survival and how an animal baring its teeth as a warning has evolved into the human smile.   Your dreams are worth inquiring about too! Series 7, Episode 3: The Social Dreaming Network: Are we all part of a dreaming matrix?

In this episode Laura meets Franca Fubini, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and an organizational consultant, to discuss the history of social dreaming. How the methodology was developed by Gordon Lawrence in the 1980's, while working at the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London, UK, and its significance in accessing the unconscious for the understanding of societal issues.   Laura and Franca delve into the social dreaming matrix, where a collective of people come together to transform the thinking of the dream by sharing dreams, finding links, connections and discovering new thoughts and thinking. Such process gives access to the social meaning of dreams.  Social dreaming differs from traditional dream analysis as the focus is on the dream itself, not the dreamer.   The discussion also touches on the impact of the 9/11 and COVID-19 pandemic on dreaming, highlighting common themes that emerged during that time.   Franca is also an organizational consultant: she explains how over years of experience the methodology has become a most useful tool of organizational consultancy. She has worked for decades with companies, National Health Services, Education Institutes, therapeutic communities etc. and has collected many examples of how social dreaming has been a key factor for the transformation of an organizational culture.   She concludes by mentioning how a social dreaming matrix  opens each gathering of Reflective Citizenship, an event that has been designed by Dr. Marina Mojiovic at the end of the Balkan war, in order to offer a space where citizens and communities could work through the trauma of war and reconnect by cultivating the seeds of open dialogue.   Your dreams are worth inquiring about too! Series 7, Episode 2: Dreams from Nazi Germany: The Hidden Voices of Totalitarianism

Laura and Rina interview documentary film maker, Amanda Rubin, about her forthcoming film The Third Reich of Dreams. The film explores the psychological impact of totalitarianism through the lens of dreams collected by journalist Charlotte Beradt during the rise of the Nazi regime in 1930's Germany.   Amanda Rubin discusses her rediscovery of Beradt's work and the themes present in the dreams, including loss of self, conformity, the hidden voices of totalitarianism and the complex relationship between oppressors and the oppressed. Rubin has republished Charlotte's book of the same name The Third Reich of Dreams (Princeton University Press) which plunges us into the surreal, shifting world of dreams under Nazi rule— where limbs freeze in involuntary salutes, walls vanish by decree, and nightmares pit survival against betrayal.   With Germany descending deeper into fascism and Europe's borders tightening, Charlotte races against time to encode and smuggle her secret archive out of the country as part of her own escape to the US. What begins as an act of witnessing transforms into a profound form of resistance, one that contains not only a lesson but a warning.     The discussion touches the significance of dreams in reflecting societal changes. In this conversation, the speakers delve into the complexities of dreams, trauma, and identity, particularly in the context of historical oppression. They explore how dreams serve as a reflection of personal and collective experiences, especially during times of crisis. The discussion highlights the significance of Charlotte's work in documenting these themes and the importance of understanding the past to inform the present and future.     https://www.amandarubin.com/13006210-the-third-reich-of-dreams     Remember that your dreams are worth inquiring about too!
