The Connection Between Your Slow Metabolism and Your Sugar Cravings

Send us Fan Mail Do you feel like you have a constant battle with sugar cravings? You tell yourself you need more willpower, try to avoid sweets entirely, or promise yourself you’ll “be good” tomorrow… but the cravings keep coming back. What if the problem isn’t your willpower at all? In this episode, we’re talking about the connection between sugar cravings, metabolism, blood sugar, and how well your body is being fueled. Your body is constantly working to maintain energy and balance, and sometimes those intense cravings for something sweet are your body’s way of asking for quick, easily available energy. I’m breaking down why under-eating, skipping meals, restrictive dieting, and building meals that aren’t satisfying enough can all contribute to the cycle of energy crash → sugar craving → quick energy → temporary relief → another craving. I want you to stop seeing your cravings as proof that you have no self-control, and instead, start looking at them as information. In this episode, you’ll learn: What metabolism actually has to do with sugar cravingsWhy your body may crave quick sources of energyHow under-fueling can make cravings strongerThe connection between restrictive dieting and sugar cravingsWhy fighting cravings with willpower isn't always the solutionHow to start addressing the root cause of your cravings instead of constantly trying to resist themIf you’re tired of feeling like you’re constantly fighting your sweet tooth, this episode will help you start looking at your cravings through a completely different lens. Your cravings aren't necessarily the problem. They may be the clue. — JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR THE FOOD NOISE BOOTCAMP!  Coming Fall 2026: https://laurabhealthy.myflodesk.com/foodnoisebootcamp  — 💌 Connect With Laura: Website: Health Coach for Teachers & Busy, Working WomenInstagram: LAURA B. | Teacher turned Health Coach | Podcaster🎙️ (@laura.b.healthy) • Instagram photos and videosTikTok: Laura B. | Health Coach (@laura.b.healthy) | TikTok— Topics: sugar cravings, metabolism, blood sugar, food cravings, sweet tooth, healthy eating, protein, fiber, balanced meals, restrictive dieting, weight loss, nutrition, overeating, food noise, hunger, appetite, metabolism and weight loss

In This Episode, We Discuss: What food noise felt like before coachingHow her all-or-nothing mindset kept her stuckThe biggest mindset shifts that changed everythingWhy understanding nutrition made healthy choices feel easierHow she built consistency with drinking water and exercisingWhat changed about her relationship with vacations and holidaysHow she now maintains healthy habits without feeling restrictedThe freedom that comes from no longer constantly thinking about foodAdvice she would give someone who's struggling with food noise todayKey Takeaway The goal isn't to have perfect habits. Unconventional Opinions About Food Noise (That Shouldn’t Be Unconventional)

Send us Fan Mail What if everything you've been told about food noise is missing the bigger picture? If you constantly think about food, battle cravings throughout the day, or feel like you're relying on willpower to stay on track, you've probably been told that food noise is simply something you need to manage or silence. But what if that's not actually true? In this episode, I'm sharing two unconventional opinions about food noise that challenge the way most people think about hunger, cravings, and appetite. These ideas have transformed the way I coach women who feel stuck in the cycle of obsessing over food, and they may completely change the way you understand your own body. We'll explore why food noise might be trying to tell you something important, how to distinguish between true hunger and mental cravings, and what your body may actually need when those constant thoughts about food show up. You'll also learn how factors like protein, fiber, blood sugar, sleep, and stress influence your appetite and why addressing the root cause is often far more effective than relying on willpower alone. If you're tired of feeling like food controls your thoughts, this episode will give you a new perspective that replaces frustration with understanding and helps you work with your body instead of against it. In This Episode, We Discuss: Why the conversation around food noise may be missing the bigger pictureHow to tell the difference between food noise and true hungerCommon root causes of constant thoughts about foodThe role of protein, fiber, blood sugar, sleep, and stress in appetite regulationWhy willpower isn't the answer to reducing cravingsHow understanding your body's signals can help you build trust around foodPractical mindset shifts that make healthy habits feel easier— RELATED EPISODE:  Mentioned in this episode is an episode on sleep and cravings.
