Into The Work: The Psychology of Becoming

Michelle Poverman

Into The Work is a podcast for soul-led entrepreneurs and purpose-driven women who know they're meant for more but keep finding themselves held back by the same invisible patterns. If you've ever wondered why you know what to do but still can't do it. Perhaps you've caught yourself overthinking every decision, procrastinating the work that matters most, shrinking your voice, or repeating the same emotional patterns in your business and your life… you're in the right place. Welcome to Into The Work. This is where: Your business becomes your teacher. Your relationships become your mirror. Your vision becomes your invitation. Where transformation becomes intentional. Hosted by psychotherapist and transformational coach Michelle Poverman, Into The Work: The Psychology of Becoming explores the deeper emotional and psychological patterns that shape the way we live, love, lead, and create. Because your business and your relationships aren't separate from your healing. They're constantly revealing the inner work you're here to do. Every challenge, every setback, every season of growth, and every vision calling you forward is revealing something about the person you're becoming. Blending nearly two decades of psychology with transformational coaching and soulful insight, Michelle helps you uncover the unconscious beliefs, identity patterns, core wounds, and nervous system responses that really do influence your ability to fully express who you are. Some weeks you'll explore entrepreneurship, visibility, leadership, and what it truly takes to build a soul-led business. Other weeks we'll dive into relationships, boundaries, intuition, emotional healing, and the psychology and energetics behind lasting transformation. Because they were never separate conversations. This isn't just a podcast about healing. It's a podcast about becoming. Together, we'll unlock how healing expands our capacity to trust ourselves, lead courageously, love deeply, and build lives and businesses that are no longer shaped by old survival patterns but by the expression of our truth. Because your greatest expansion isn't in your business. It's in the woman building it. Welcome Into The Work. I'm so glad you're here.

Are You Always The Easy One?

The Cost of Being the Easy One: Part 1 Have you always been the easy one? The one who doesn't make a fuss, goes with the flow, and rarely asks for much? But what if being easygoing isn't always about being flexible? What if sometimes it's about being afraid of what happens when you're not? In this first episode of The Cost of Being the Easy One, we're exploring how being agreeable and accommodating can become more than a personality trait. For many women, being the easy one became part of their identity—something they learned early in life that helped them feel accepted, appreciated, or safe. But there's a hidden cost we don't often talk about. When you spend years considering everyone else's needs, preferences, and expectations before your own, you can gradually lose the habit of consulting yourself. And one day, you might find yourself wondering why it's so difficult to know what you want. This conversation isn't just about people-pleasing. It's about your relationship with yourself. We'll explore how the identity of being the easy one develops, the difference between genuine flexibility and automatic accommodation, and how repeatedly putting yourself last can disconnect you from your own desires. And I'll share one simple practice to help you begin reconnecting with yourself- without becoming less kind, generous, or considerate. Because you can be a loving, thoughtful woman without making yourself optional in your own life. Coming next: In Part 2, we'll explore what being the easy one costs us in our relationships, and why boundaries may be the very thing that makes authentic connection and meaningful businesses possible.  Support the show Thank you for listening! 🌟 Take the Soul-Led Business Quiz  Discover the hidden pattern shaping your business and the soul-level gift it's been protecting. In Case You've Forgotten Who You Are

What if you've been so busy trying to understand who you've become that you've forgotten to imagine who else you could be? This week on Into The Work, we're having a different kind of conversation. We're not digging into what's holding you back, what needs healing, or what you need to fix. Consider this the pep talk you didn't know you needed. We're exploring the extraordinary possibility that you are so much more than your conditioning, your past experiences, and the identity you've learned to live inside. I'm sharing a recent experience at a women's visibility conference where I found myself facing an old pattern: needing everything to be perfectly planned and prepared before I could show up. But something surprising happened when I stopped negotiating with that old version of myself and simply said, "Of course I am." It reminded me that expansion isn't always about pushing harder. Sometimes it's about trusting ourselves enough to discover what we're already capable of. We also go deeper into the spiritual side of becoming, our connection to universal consciousness, the infinite self, and the power of imagination to help us explore possibilities beyond our current reality. And perhaps most importantly, we'll talk about why your growth is about more than just you. The ideas you share, the work you create, and the ways you choose to show up can have a ripple effect far beyond what you'll ever see. Because you can be completely whole as you are and still be nowhere near finished becoming. If you've been feeling stuck in what's familiar, questioning what's possible, or simply needing a reminder of who you are beneath it all, this conversation is for you. A question to take with you: What if the thing you keep talking yourself out of isn't just something you want? What if it's something someone else is waiting to receive? You don't need to have your entire future figured out. Maybe it's enough to get curious about what else is possible. There's still so much of your life waiting to be lived. Why the People Closest to You May Not Celebrate Your Growth

Have you ever shared something you're genuinely excited about, something you've worked hard on or finally found the courage to put into the world, only to hear... crickets? For entrepreneurs, especially in the early years, that silence can feel incredibly personal. And sometimes the people you expected to cheer you on are the very people who seem least interested. But what if their silence isn't telling you what you think it is? In this episode of Into The Work, we're exploring the psychology of why the people closest to us don't always recognize, understand, or celebrate our growth. We'll look at why friends and family may still see an older version of you, how someone else's courage or visibility can become a mirror for our own beliefs and limitations, and why the meaning we attach to other people's reactions can influence our confidence and self-trust. Because sometimes the most important question isn't Why aren't they supporting me? It's: What am I making their response mean about me? We'll also explore the loneliness of building something other people don't fully understand, the difference between wanting encouragement and needing external validation, and how to use the discomfort of feeling unseen as an opportunity for growth. The people around you may not recognize who you're becoming, but their responses and your reactions to them  can reveal something valuable about the beliefs and expectations you're carrying into your next chapter. You don't have to make other people wrong for not understanding your vision. And you don't have to make yourself wrong for wanting them to. If you've ever felt unsupported, misunderstood, or alone in your growth, this conversation is for you. Why Some People Actually Change and Others Stay Stuck

What actually makes someone change?  I’ve sat across from people who could explain exactly why they do what they do. They understood their childhoods, their triggers, their relationship patterns, and the protective behaviors they developed along the way. And yet, understanding the pattern doesn’t always change the pattern. I’ve also watched people transform their lives—sometimes slowly, sometimes imperfectly, but in ways that lasted. So what makes the difference? In this episode of Into The Work, I’m sharing what I’ve come to believe about the people who actually change: their willingness to see themselves clearly without turning what they see into evidence that something is wrong with them, their ability to stay curious when defensiveness would be easier, and the shift from asking who or what is to blame to asking, What is mine now? We’ll talk about why insight isn’t the same as integration, how powerlessness can sometimes become protective, why hiding after we fall back into an old pattern can keep us stuck, and why feeling terrible about something isn’t necessarily the same as taking responsibility for it. Because real change rarely happens in one enormous breakthrough. More often, it happens in the small space between recognizing the old pattern and deciding what you’re going to do next. And if you recognize yourself in some of the patterns that make change difficult, I especially want you to hear the end of this episode. An inability to change is not an identity. It’s a pattern. And patterns can change. Support the show Thank you for listening! 🌟 Take the Soul-Led Business Quiz  Discover the hidden pattern shaping your business and the soul-level gift it's been protecting. Why Capable Women Still Second-Guess Themselves

You can be highly capable, deeply self-aware, and have years of evidence that you know how to handle hard things—and still find yourself questioning your own decisions. So why does that happen? In this episode of Into The Work: The Psychology of Becoming, we explore why second-guessing isn’t always a confidence problem. Sometimes it’s what happens when you’ve become highly skilled at considering everyone else’s needs, reactions, and opinions before giving your own voice the final say. We’ll look at the difference between capability and self-trust, why criticism can hit so deeply when it touches a belief we already carry. We’ll also explore why uncertainty doesn’t necessarily mean you’re making the wrong decision. Sometimes you’re simply trying to make a choice from a level of authority you haven’t inhabited before. In this episode, you’ll explore: Why highly capable women can still struggle to trust their own decisionsHow considering everyone else’s reaction can become self-doubtWhy criticism often has the most power when it finds a belief already living inside usThe difference between needing more information and needing permissionWhy the second thought isn’t automatically the wiser thoughtWhat self-trust actually looks like when certainty isn’t availableIf you’ve been waiting to feel completely certain before you make a decision, this episode may give you a different question to ask: If I knew I could handle whatever came next, what would I choose? How to Know When a Decision Is Right: Even When It Scares You

What if fear doesn’t mean you’re making the wrong decision? We tend to believe that when something is right, we’ll feel certain. Clear. Ready. But some of the most important decisions we make come with excitement and fear, hope and hesitation. Because decision doesn’t eliminate ambivalence. In this episode of Into The Work, we’re talking about how to discern between a grounded no and a protective no—and what to pay attention to when you’re standing at the edge of a decision that could change your trajectory. I’m also taking you behind the scenes of why I created The Vision Lab and the philosophy at the heart of it: bringing together the feminine energy of vision, intuition, and possibility with the masculine energy of structure, strategy, and action. We’ll talk about: Why certainty and clarity aren’t the same thingWhy the “right” decision can still feel scaryThe difference between a grounded no and a protective noThe signals I pay attention to when making a big decisionHow indecision divides our energy and decision creates momentumDesire → Decision → DevotionWhy we sometimes use feminine or masculine energy to avoid the otherWhy I created the Vision Map to bridge vision and executionWhy capable women and leaders need spaces where they don’t always have to be the one holding everythingThe Vision Lab closes Thursday, 9/10. If you’ve been circling this decision, you don’t need every part of you to agree before you move. You can have questions. You can feel excited and scared. Your Identity Threshold: When the Woman Who Got You Here Can't Take You There

What if feeling stuck in your business doesn't mean you need a better strategy? Sometimes the frustration, resistance, or restlessness you’re experiencing is a sign that you've reached the edge of an identity that can no longer take you where you want to go. In this episode of Into The Work: The Psychology of Becoming, Michelle explores the identity shifts that happen as entrepreneurs grow and why the patterns that helped you build your business can eventually become the very patterns limiting your next chapter. You’ll learn what Michelle calls an identity threshold: the tension between the woman who knows how to operate inside the life and business you've already created and the woman beginning to sense a bigger vision. We explore how people-pleasing, perfectionism, over-responsibility, fear of visibility, hyper-independence, and other protective patterns can quietly shape the way you lead your business. And why knowing exactly what to do doesn't always mean you'll be able to do it from the identity you're currently operating from. Michelle also explores what it means to be a soul-led entrepreneur, why outgrowing the way you've been working can actually be a sign of expansion, and how to recognize when your next level requires more than another tactic or business strategy. Because sometimes you're not stuck. You've simply reached the edge of the woman you've been—and your vision is asking you to expand beyond her. In this episode: How to recognize when you've reached an identity thresholdWhy successful entrepreneurs can still feel stuck, restless, or resistantThe connection between identity, business growth, and visibilityHow protective patterns can become limitations as your business expandsWhy the identity that helped you succeed may not be the one that leads your next chapterWhat it means to build a soul-led businessWhy you don't need to have your entire vision figured out before moving toward itHow expansion creates greater capacity for purpose, leadership, creativity, and possibilityBecoming Expansive — Live September 1 If you can feel that something more is calling you forward, but you're struggling to see how to get from where you are to where you want to go, join Michelle for Becoming Expansive, a live activation experience for soul-led entrepreneurs.
