Just Started Listening
I just started listening and was okay with the first episode I heard. Started listening to a new episode of them talking about 2024 game awards and mannnn. They starting jumping into how capitalism is ruining the game awards. I was caught way off guard from this but kept listening and the whole time they seemed to give off the impression of disliking the game awards and critiqued the ad placements and orchestra at the award show…then will flip and say how much they enjoyed those same things. It was seriously the most nothing speech I’ve heard in a long time. I’m sure the podcasters don’t care but if your interested in a gaming podcast I strongly suggest a different one. P.S. Also if your curious about their gaming taste they placed Dragon Age Veilguard in their top 5 game of the year citing “Great Writing”. I’m sure that tells you everything you need to know. I have not met a single soul who bought and played it that has said the same thing.
Should call it Gamers On Politics

Political agenda. We tune in to be entertained about video games. Instead we get political garbage and why they’re no longer on X. Nobody cares.
Formerly Fun, Now a Bummer

I used to really love this podcast. It used to be a standard gaming podcast, about the latest games and sometimes about older games as well. It was a bunch of hosts that were a little older, "had jobs", and liked to still play and talk about games. It didn't have a perspective on current events with relation to games - or at least, it wasn't close to primarily that. Shawn was a great host, and had a strong voice as host. Sadly, Shawn left about 5 years ago. Since then, in an unexpected turn of events, the member with the weakest voice took over as host. The last choice I would have expected. Maybe the other members just didn't want the job? Amanda's perspective was always nice to hear, as a side member and guest. However, as the main host it just doesn't work. As a listener, you need a solid voice as the main host and Amanda's voice and personality is very quiet. In addition, since Shawn left, the podcast has taken on a vibe that is almost always about social justice issues in relation to a game or games (and sometimes not in relation to any game at all). I have no problem with listening to podcasts about social issues, but gaming podcasts are usually a diversion from the stresses of politics and societal problems. Even as a staunch liberal and ally, it just bums me out most of the time to turn on a podcast I expect to be about the latest games adults have been playing and instead hear about current scandals. I have other casts for that when I'm in the mood. It seems like almost every cast has to have trigger warnings. Recently there have been full casts on "problematic games." Is that what the show title "Gamers with Jobs" sounds like to you? Maybe the name of the cast should be changed. It's not at all what it once was. Change is ok, but it should be recognized and maybe rebranded as something else. At this point it feels a little bait and switch.
