Life After Unmasking: for late-diagnosed ADHD Women

Kori C

You figured out you have ADHD. Maybe AuDHD. You started recognizing the masking, people-pleasing, overthinking, burnout, and all the ways you learned to make yourself easier for everyone else. Now what? Life After Unmasking is for late-diagnosed ADHD and AuDHD women figuring out who they are underneath all of that. We talk identity, self-trust, relationships, motherhood, boundaries, executive dysfunction, and what happens after self-awareness. No fixing yourself. No five-step formula. Just figuring out what you actually want—and trusting yourself enough to decide what comes next.

Why You Don’t Trust Yourself Even When You Already Know the Answer

Have you ever made a decision, known what you wanted to do, and then immediately polled the group chat anyway? Sometimes we really do need another perspective. But sometimes we aren’t asking for input — we’re asking for permission. In this episode, we’re talking about why external validation can feel so necessary when you’ve spent years being agreeable, flexible, reasonable, hyperaware of everyone else’s needs, or taught to question your own perception. We’ll get into the difference between input and permission, why overexplaining can be a clue that you don’t fully trust your own decision yet, and why somebody else agreeing with you doesn’t automatically mean their answer is right for you. And no, the solution isn’t “never ask anyone for advice again.” Self-trust isn’t deciding your first thought is sacred and everyone else should shut the f**k up. It’s learning how to hear other people without losing your own answer in the process. Your practice this week is simple: Before asking anyone else what you should do, write down what you think first. Then ask yourself what kind of support you actually need. Because maybe you need information. Maybe you need reassurance. Maybe you need help thinking something through. Or maybe you already know. And what you really need is practice letting that be enough. Read the companion Substack: Before You Poll the Group Chat, What Do You Think?
