Strength For Life

Village Fitness and Physical Therapy

Welcome to the Strength for Life Podcast — where smart strength training meets real life. We’re Dr. Matt and Nicole Klingler—I’m a doctor of physical therapy, and Nicole is a certified personal trainer. For nearly a decade, we’ve coached thousands of clients through strength training, injury rehab, and body transformation. This show is your inside look at what we’ve learned helping real people build strong, capable bodies—without breaking down in the process. In each episode, we break down: The science-backed strategies that help people age with strength How to train smarter (not just harder) What works in real life, not just in research labs And what we’re testing in our own routines as parents, business owners, and lifelong students of health Whether you’re just getting started or you’re in it for the long haul, this podcast will help you build strength that actually lasts. -Dr. Matt and Nicole Klingler

Strength For Life: Will a One-Week Vacation Ruin Your Fitness Progress? | Ep. 48

In this episode of the Strength for Life Podcast, Matt and Nicole talk about how to stay healthy, active, and intentional while traveling—without ruining your vacation or obsessing over every meal. They start by sharing what their upcoming vacation will look like, including how they plan to stay active, walk a lot, train when possible, and still enjoy time away with their family. They also discuss how easy it is for the average person to gain weight on vacation and why having a simple plan before you leave can make a huge difference. Instead of giving one-size-fits-all advice, they break vacation down into three categories: One week or less: How to enjoy your trip, stay active, prioritize protein, avoid constant snacking, and come home feeling good instead of completely off track. One to four weeks: Why longer trips require more structure, including planned workouts, grocery shopping, protein targets, walking goals, and realistic routines that keep you consistent. Four weeks or more: How to treat extended travel less like a “break from life” and more like a temporary lifestyle shift, with strength training, daily movement, hydration, and nutrition habits that can actually last. Matt and Nicole also share simple travel workouts you can do with minimal equipment, including bodyweight circuits, hotel gym workouts, dumbbell sessions, walking workouts, and quick conditioning options that help you maintain strength and momentum while you’re away. Whether you’re leaving for a long weekend, a family vacation, or an extended trip, this episode will help you enjoy your time away while still supporting your health, strength, and long-term goals.
