Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! This week Pip is joined live on stage at the Harry Styles-curated Meltdown Festival by incredible artist TOMO CAMPBELL! To quote London's Cob Gallery, "[Tomo's] abstracted depictions of 'traditional' subjects such as hunting, parades and explorers are, as he puts it, 'never quite solid or whole', yet they exude an extraordinarily rich sense of vision". Now that's just so you know at least a little about Tomo if you're not familiar! After the chat with Pip live on stage you will likely be very inspired to pick up on where the chat leaves off and have a look at his work online (or in person if you're nearby). The conversation itself is fabulous, and features a huge amount to leave you well acquainted with Tomo, including art and class, education, inspiration, the slow creep from Houndslow to London, the choice between football and art, mood iterations (that's your album title right there), arbitrary pricing, ballet coincidences, power in ambiguity and art in application to music. Lovely stuff all in all - BUT - the questions at the end were relatively unsalvageable, so while you won't be able to make them out that well, hopefully the responses will allow for context. Apologies you're left to pick up the slack on those but they weren't available in the recordings so this was the best that could be done. See how you get on there anyway! Enjoy! Mark's got many years in the game, and in an era where almost every single thing feels digital, his approach to film making is almost as aesthetically radical as it comes - using all analogue gear, and a truly unique attitude to post-sync sound too. This chat gets into many eras and processes, including the origins of Bait (2019) which stem back to decades ago, how to tour a film, making films for an audience of self, representing the working class in an honourable way, Cornwall stereotypes, falling in love with the film making process again via Super8 cameras, the music making process and how said sync work happens. Dissecting Disfluency (w/ Cherry Burns) #641

Those of you familiar with Pip's Twitch channel and the community within might well be familiar with Cherry, but if not, all is well as here is your formal introduction! Although their role is two-fold, as guest and interviewer, with Pip as the subject. Today (at time of episode publishing) is Wednesday 22nd October, which is International Stammering Awareness Day. With Pip being a person with a stammer as well as a patron of the organisation Stamma, it would be a missed opportunity to celebrate the event and that is exactly what's going down today! This is a chance for those of you who stammer, as well as those of you who do not, to listen in on a conversation covering a vast amount of points and topics within the greater world of stammering that you might not usually hear. It's a wonderful chance to gain some insight into not only what it is, but how it can come into play in day to day life, the issues that might otherwise go unseen or unheard, but also the added compensatory factors that can kick in as a result. Something that comes up in the chat is about how stammering is not the problem, it's how the world meets the stammer that is the problem, which is a really interesting swing on it all.
