Speaking' From The Heart - Kay Jones - The Story of Lake Oconee Speech Therapy

Today’s episode is all about something we often take for granted, the ability to communicate: to speak, to share, to connect. My guest, Kay Jones, has spent more than 40 years as a speech therapist, helping people of all ages rediscover their voices and their confidence after challenges that made communication difficult. From children learning their first clear words to adults recovering from strokes or injuries, Kay has dedicated her life to reminding people that every voice matters. Now, after four decades of experience in schools, clinics, and hospitals, Kay is opening a new chapter, quite literally, by launching her own private practice right here in our community! We’ll talk about her journey, how the field of speech therapy has evolved, and the deep emotional connection between speech and identity. You’ll hear stories of transformation, the science behind speech recovery, and why Kay believes that helping someone find their voice is one of the most rewarding callings there is. This conversation is a beautiful reminder that words have power, and with the right help, anyone can find theirs again. The Story of 'Jesus In A Bar': Faith Without Walls

Today’s show takes us into one of the most unique and inspiring ministries you’ll ever hear about, a group that’s taking the message of Jesus far beyond the church walls and into the places where people who need Him are! My guest is Josh Willcuts, the founder of Jesus in a Bar, a faith movement and band built on a simple but powerful belief: there’s no place Jesus wouldn’t go to share His love. From bars to prisons, hospitals to nursing homes, this ministry uses music, story, and compassion to reach people who might never walk through a traditional church door. We’ll talk about how Jesus in a Bar began, the powerful moments that have shaped their journey, and their upcoming benefit concert at Briar Patch Farm, an evening of incredible music and unshakable faith that’s helping raise funds to expand their mission even further. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s rooted in something we all need…hope. Whether you’re a believer, a seeker, or maybe someone who loves a good story about purpose and courage, this episode will remind you that sometimes the most sacred moments happen in the most unexpected places. Let’s meet the man behind the movement…and the message behind Jesus in a Bar. On Our Own, But Never Alone: The Story of the OOO's

Today’s episode is one of those stories that reminds you just how powerful friendship and community can be. I’m joined by two incredible women — Patty Jackson and Rachel Borregard, from an inspiring local organization called On Our Own, or simply the OOO’s as most of you know them. What started as a small circle of women supporting each other through life’s challenges has grown into a thriving network of encouragement, compassion, and shared purpose. The OOO’s are proof that when women come together, to listen, to lift each other up, and to lead with heart, remarkable things happen. We’ll talk about how the organization began, the lives it’s touched, and the ways it continues to make a lasting impact here in our community and beyond. You’ll hear about the events, the laughter, the friendships and the deeper mission that ties it all together. Whether you’re part of a group like this or have been looking for something that feeds your soul, this episode will remind you that no one should ever truly be “on their own.” So settle in, this conversation is full of heart, hope, and the kind of connection that makes life a little brighter. I’m thrilled to welcome their new Executive Director, Allyn Rippin, a passionate leader with a powerful story of returning to the Lake Country to make a real difference. We’ll dive into Allyn’s personal journey: what brought her home, what led her to take on this inaugural leadership role, and what it means to be the first Executive Director of a grassroots organization that’s already transforming lives across Greene and Putnam Counties. Neighbors Helping Neighbors isn’t just a name - it’s a mission in motion. From delivering beds to children who’ve never had one, to providing and repairing vehicles for those with no way to get to work or medical appointments, to making critical home repairs that allow families to live safely and with dignity, Neighbors Helping Neighbors is there.
