Homegrown: OKC

Dive into a case of domestic terrorism from the past that’s really a warning about the future. Back in 1995, there was a disaster that should have prepared us for January 6th and the political violence that we’re seeing today: the Oklahoma City Bombing. Journalist Jeffrey Toobin reveals the story behind Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City Bombing, and right-wing extremism in America - how a decorated army veteran became consumed with rage, how he somehow went underground and built a bomb that damaged fifty blocks in a modern city, and how everything that led to the horror of April 19th, 1995 is still very present in America. Homegrown: OKC is a USG Audio podcast produced by Western Sound and Esmail Corp. Based on the book “Homegrown: Timothy McVeigh and the Rise of Rightwing Extremism” by Jeffrey Toobin.

This is a wonderful series from the past that still resonates today. Thanks to all who created this series!
Delusional

“I cannot believe” is how I initially catch myself writing this review and then I immediately go to “No unfortunately I can actually believe it” but I constantly digress. I digress, sigh, shake my head and am harshly reminded of the refusal for anyone in journalism anymore to go about their job in an objective, fair and unbiased manner. They have become so full of themselves, so righteous, so greedy and even so narcissistic that they have lost all objectivity and sadly most of all, all character and to tie it all up even more into the nasty little package it appears to be with zero ability to recognize it and it has spread faster and become so prevalent anymore that it continues to eat at our world and destroy it like a disease that has no cure. I still cannot believe you literally without pause compared what monstrous acts McVeigh did to what occurred on January 6th.
Disappointed…A story I was very interested in.

Get ready for one big leap after another. Unsupported connections to POTUS 45 with constant attempts to tie him to all right wing radicals and all radicals to Timothy McVeigh. Condemnation of anyone right-leaning. Completely ignoring left leaning or left supported violence and destruction. The story would have been terrific if not for the incessant need to paint anyone on the right with the same brush.
Great Deep Dive and reminder

This deep dive really pulled me into the “why”of OKC, and I can see it parallels to January 6. Having lived, worked and gone to school in several countries outside of the USA, I have gained a deep appreciation for other cultures and the freedoms we have in our own country (USA). If one disagrees with our Constitution and laws, then live in another country outside of the USA. We have a lot to be grateful for, but I have also learned to be watchful and careful of my surroundings. Thanks, again, for this thought-provoking podcast. It was great!
