496: The Fear Successful People Don't Talk About [Poolside Confessions]

Welcome to Poolside Confessions, my summer series where we gather around the pool and I confess the things I've been thinking, feeling, and experiencing – in hopes of normalizing these conversations and helping you know you're not alone. Today's confession is one that almost every successful woman I've ever talked to has felt at some point. The fear of losing it all. When I first started my business, my fears looked different. Am I good enough? Will I make it? What will people think? And in the back of my mind was this big fantasy of arrival – that when I finally hit a certain number, built a certain life, I'd feel safe. Secure. Like I'd finally made it. You get there. And a new fear is waiting. The bigger the building you've built, the harder the ego whispers about the fall. So many women end up creating a life their younger selves would have been so proud of – and they can't even enjoy it because they're too busy white-knuckling it. Too afraid it's all going to be taken away. In this episode, I'm walking you through the practices that have set me free from this fear – and that I've watched set other women free, too. Here's what we cover: Why the fear of losing it all shows up the moment you finally build something you love The thought pattern that keeps successful women exhausted and unable to enjoy what they've created How to entertain the worst-case scenario… so you can finally make peace with it The compassion practice I use with the scared little girl inside of me Why getting clear on what is enough brings relief How to stop building a prison out of your own success The truth about freedom… and why it was never about the money   Did you enjoy this episode? 495: Why Having Personal Style is More Important Than Ever

Style is your survival strategy. Come find yours: https://schoolofselfimage.com/june We're about to live through the most average decade in human history. AI is becoming really, really good at sounding like everyone. And it shows. But here's the thing that a machine can't do. It can't be a woman who knows exactly who she is. Lately, I'm hearing the same thing from women everywhere: "I feel invisible. I feel replaceable." And these are not invisible women. These are women who've built things. Run things. Walked into a room and used to own it. In this episode, I'm naming what's happening – and making the case that personal style is our survival strategy. Full stop. What this moment demands is originality. Yours. This is a call for you to stop performing a life and start living one that is unmistakably, unapologetically yours. Here's what we cover: Why so many accomplished women feel invisible and replaceable right now What's actually happening as the world gets handed over to AI Why personal style is one of the most enlightening journeys a woman can take The one thing AI can never fake The firehose of formulas, and why copying her will never get you her result The exact moment my business started taking off The June Invitation and what's waiting for you inside the membership Did you enjoy this episode? 494: The Shopping Secret That Changed My Self-Image

Ready to discover your personal Style Statement and walk into every season of your life knowing exactly WHO you're dressing? This is the work we're doing inside the membership in June. Join us at https://schoolofselfimage.com/go For most of my life, I hated shopping. Not because I didn't care about clothes – but because I had no idea who I was dressing. I was buying what the mannequin wore. What the sales associate pulled with confidence. What the woman in the magazine made look effortless.  I'd get home, lay everything out on the bed, and still have no idea who I was. So I created a discipline. Three filters. Three questions every piece has to answer before it comes home with me.  In this episode, I'm sharing why most women are quietly living with closets full of near-misses, why that's a self-image problem, and the shopping secret that changed everything. Here's what we cover: Why a closet full of near-misses is actually a self-image problem Filter One: Fit – and why body knowledge is one of the most freeing things you can have Filter Two: Color – and why the "black is chic" rule may be quietly washing you out Filter Three: Style – and how a Style Statement becomes the North Star for everything you wear How the Style Triad changes your life, wallet, and confidence The invitation: what becomes possible when you start dressing a woman you know Did you enjoy this episode? 493: My Top 3 Style Mistakes (and the Self-Image Story Behind Each One)

Want to go deeper on your self-image – week by week, one shift at a time? Subscribe to The Edit at https://schoolofselfimage.com/edit Style isn't about clothes. It's your inner thoughts about yourself made visible – one of the most accurate self-portraits a woman paints. A daily, public answer to the question: Who do you think you are? In this episode, Tonya walks through her three biggest style mistakes and, more importantly, what each one was costing her on the inside. Because every style "mistake" a woman makes isn't really a fashion mistake. It's a self-image story wearing her clothes. This one isn't about fashion. It's about what you've been telling yourself – and what your wardrobe has quietly been saying back. Your closet is honest, even when you're not. Here's what we cover: Why every style mistake is actually a self-image mistake The sneaky lie that style requires money – and what it costs you every morning How outsourcing your taste (even to AI) quietly erodes your ability to trust yourself The truth about "waiting clothes" and why a different body can't fix a belief One practice to try this week – no shopping required Did you enjoy this episode? 492: Put Down the Journal. Put On the Outfit.

You've been writing about her for years. You know the way she carries herself. You know the outfits she'd wear, the dinners she'd attend, the way she says her opinion at the table without softening it first. You have written about her so many times you could find her blindfolded. And she is still standing on the wrong side of the page. Today I'm questioning something I love – and that I know you love, too. Journaling is beautiful. It's sacred. But somewhere along the way, writing about the woman you want to become started to feel like the same thing as becoming her. It's not. In this episode, we talk about the gap between the woman on the page and the woman in the mirror – why getting dressed might be the most underused tool in your transformation, and the science that proves what you wear is literally giving your brain instructions about who you are right now. The page is where she was hypothetical. The dress is where she becomes real. You don't have to think your way into her. You can dress your way into her. Here's what we cover: Why journaling, as beautiful as it is, can quietly become the thing keeping you stuck The Self-Image Cycle and its most underused entry point The Northwestern University study on enclothed cognition and what it means for your daily routine The little black dress that changed everything, and why it had nothing to do with the dress The difference between living from your desires versus living from your mood A micro-action to take this week that will bring her forward, no journaling required Did you enjoy this episode? 491: The 30-Day Reset That Changes How You See Yourself

Join me for The Spring Edit, a month-long experience inside the School of Self-Image that I'm doing right alongside you. One room, one honest look, and one woman deciding who she is now – and creating a space that says so. https://www.schoolofselfimage.com/go  There's a room in my house that I've called my studio for nearly two years. I've never once recorded a podcast in it. Two walls painted black, two white. Not a decision. A series of half-starts that never became anything. Every time I walk past it, it whispers: "You're a woman with beautiful ideas who doesn't follow through." But I know who does follow through. I've been her. The one who sailed through St. Barts in silk, spent a summer in the South of France, walked into rooms and felt like herself. Alive. Creative. Unapologetic. I set her down somewhere along the way. And maybe you did, too. You don't lose that version of yourself all at once. Life fills in around her, and one day you realize the door has been closed for a long time. In this episode, I'm making it public: I'm building that studio. And I want you to do this with me – because your environment is your identity made visible, and the woman you're becoming doesn't live in someday. She lives right now. Here's what we cover: The room in my house I've been avoiding, and the self-image conversation it's been having with me for years Why an empty room is still a mirror, and what yours might be saying about you The woman I've been outgrowing and the one I'm returning to What space you've been walking past every day (and what it's costing you) Why a weekend blitz can clean a room but cannot shift your self-image How 30 days of intentional choices build unmistakable evidence for who you're becoming My public commitment – and the invitation to join me Did you enjoy this episode? 490: Reinvent Your Life One Room at a Time

Your environment tells a story about who you are. Inside the School of Self-Image, we're editing it – one room at a time. Join us for The Spring Edit. https://schoolofselfimage.com/join I used to live in a cabin in the woods. Not a charming stone cottage with wildflowers by the mailbox –  a cabin off a dirt road where your social circle is basically whoever delivers your packages. I loved that cabin. But it matched a version of me I was outgrowing. When I moved to a new city and signed the lease on a penthouse I was terrified of being able to afford, I didn't start with a Pinterest board. I started with a question: Who is the woman who lives here? That question changed how I designed my space, how I showed up in my life, and ultimately, who I became. In this episode, I'm sharing how your environment is your identity made visible – and how editing just one room can create a ripple effect across your entire life. From my bookshelf purge to the dinner parties that deepened every friendship I had, this is the story of how I stopped decorating and started designing for the woman I was becoming. Here's what we cover: Why your environment is your identity made visible – and how it's shaping you whether you realize it or not The one question I asked before designing my penthouse that changed my self-image How a single bookshelf kept me stuck in "perpetual repair mode" – and what happened when I cleared it Why starting with "who" instead of "what" is the secret to transforming any room The unexpected ripple effect of redesigning just one room What it means to edit your environment with intention, not just decorate or organize it Did you enjoy this episode? 489: You Don't Have a Clutter Problem – You Have a Self-Image

If you see yourself in this story, the School of Self-Image is where this work lives. Step inside at https://www.schoolofselfimage.com/go I need to tell you something that I've never said on this podcast before. My home is beautiful. My closet is curated. My kitchen is organized to within an inch of its life.  But my bathroom cabinets? Chaos. Beautiful, expensive chaos. Standing in front of those open doors, 17 serums deep, I didn't have a big epiphany. I got embarrassed. The real kind. The kind where your stuff holds up a mirror, and you don't love what you see.  Because that mess wasn't a storage problem. It was a self-image problem wearing an organizing disguise. In this episode, I'm getting into what your stuff is telling you about yourself, why the bins and labels and the weekend purges never stick, and what really shifts when you stop trying to organize your things and start reorganizing how you see yourself. Here's what we cover: What your closet says about you – and why it might be an identity crisis hanging on a rack Why the organizing industry sells you systems for a problem that isn't about systems How every single thing you own is a decision filtered through how you see yourself The real reason you're exhausted at two o'clock (it's not because you're doing too much) What happened when I sorted my bathroom cabinet by "who bought this" instead of keep or toss Why the old stuff becomes unbearable once you change at the self-image level One thing you can do today to start choosing the woman you're becoming Did you enjoy this episode?
