HempFlavin And The Maine Growers Alliance

HempFlavin And The Maine Growers Alliance

HEMPFLAVIN, a proprietary blend of twenty-three (23) Cannflavins and flavonoids extracted from an heirloom hemp variety that is over 2,000 years old, is formulated to be used for severe body aches, muscle soreness, and other pain relief by creating a synergistic flavonoid response known as the “flavonoid entourage effect”. The flavonoids in HEMPFLAVIN include Cannflavin A, B, & C, Cannabisin A, B & C, quercetin, apigenin-7- and kaempferol. Previous studies have found that the flavonoids in HEMPFLAVIN have prominent anti-inflammatory action and may help augment the body’s antioxidant defense.
Eben Sumner is the Founder and CEO of two businesses in the cannabis space, Casco Bay Hemp and 1780, a Maine Licensed Medical Cannabis Provider. Co-Founder and legislative chair of the Maine Growers Alliance, and shaper participant in Seed2Health; a think tank focused on forwarding cannabis as medicine. In Maine, Eben founded a caregiver company, named 1780, cultivating medical cannabis. Unfortunately, the complexities of federal law around cannabis made it impossible for this business to expand outside of Maine. However, Sumner quickly found that he could extend his reach through CBD and hemp products. Today, Sumner provides a variety of CBD products through Casco Bay Hemp. The products are all derived from USA-grown hemp, and all the manufacturing is handled right in Maine. The restrictions surrounding medical cannabis don’t apply to hemp, allowing Sumner to provide Casco Bay Hemp products all across the country and legal markets around the world.

Canna Business Services With CEO Emily Seelman

Canna Business Services With CEO Emily Seelman

Armed with a legal background, business marketing degree, and start-up industry experience. Our next guest, Emily Seelman, brings an unmatched combination of multifaceted knowledge and dedication to the table. Canna Business Services offers unparalleled market expertise and regulatory compliance. They provide the highest level of certainty in an uncertain and high-risk market by serving as specialized industry guides, revealing networks of high-value connections and opportunities, and delivering future-proof solutions.
California Governor Gavin Newsom reported that his newly formed task force eradicated 11,260 illegal cannabis plants and destroyed 5,237lbs. of illegally processed cannabis flower, worth an estimated retail value of more than $15 million. Led by the Department of Cannabis Control’s (DCC) Law Enforcement Division and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) the task force conducted an operation in a rural area of Jupiter in Tuolumne County on October 4, targeting unlicensed outdoor cultivation operations.
Some cannabis banking analysts said de-scheduling the drug could actually usher in more compliance reporting requirements for banks involved in the space. We always talk about compliance from the cultivation side, but we talk about the obstacles that stem from the banking side for the 700-some-odd banks that service the cannabis industry.

Cannabis Practice Group. Akerman LLP With Jonathan Robbins

Cannabis Practice Group. Akerman LLP With Jonathan Robbins

Our next guest counsels clients on the evolving, complex legal and business issues impacting companies with interests in the regulated substances industries. His experience encompasses investigations and administrative and enforcement proceedings brought by federal, state, and self-regulatory bodies, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Florida Attorney General’s Office, Florida Department of Financial Services, and Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.
According to a recent survey from the Independent Community Bankers of America, 65% of respondents stated that they would support cannabis reform which would permit banks to work with state-level companies. In addition, another 71% of respondents said that improved access to financial systems within the cannabis sector would reduce the dangers of the current cash-based market. Even more, participants stated that delays in banking services pose a safety threat to cannabis companies.
We also talk about the current state of Cannabis banking today. Cannabis banking is currently handled only by a small portion of the country’s FDIC-insured banks who are willing to service cannabis companies operating legally under state law. According to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, only 755 banks service the cannabis industry, and that’s out of 4200 FDIC-insured banks.

AlphaRoot With The Managing Director Isaac Bock

AlphaRoot With The Managing Director Isaac Bock

Today we welcome back a returning guest who believes that New York, as they start to grant the initial cultivator licenses, can learn from the legal markets of other states to avoid making the same mistakes along the way. Isaac Bock is the Managing Director and Head of Strategy for AlphaRoot, a groundbreaking insurance company based in the emerging market of cannabis. A Penn graduate and currently pursuing a Master of Science in medical cannabis science and therapeutics at the University of Maryland, Bock first joined Founder Shield in 2017 before taking over their newly created AlphaRoot department. Chris Alexander, executive director of the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, told Capital Tonight that the office is working on licensing retailers for the legal cannabis market with a prioritization on small and medium businesses. Alexander said the first retailers are “fully on track” to open by the end of 2022 with more on the way in the new year.
The illegal market will still be a factor in New York even with legal retailers operating in the Empire State. Alexander argues, citing other states that have legalized cannabis, that a successful legal market along with enforcement will slowly erode the black market but not completely eliminate it. On the issue of people selling cannabis outside of the legal market, Alexander says “by jumping the gun now, you put your future in this market at risk” and encourages retailers to achieve stability by going through the legal route.
The Office of Cannabis Management is following the instructions set out in the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act and is looking for applicants with prior business operating experience as well. The office is prioritizing small and medium retailers right now to help them grow before larger retailers come to New York. We talk about the Pros and cons first cultivators will face before supply chain dispensaries are open and much more today on Blunt Business.

Vicente Sederberg LLP With Charles Alovisetti

Vicente Sederberg LLP With Charles Alovisetti

With offices in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, and Texas, Our next guest on Blunt Business represents a full-service cannabis law firm with a coast-to-coast and global footprint. Vicente Sederberg is supporting the Tri-state area with a full suite of services—legal, corporate, regulatory, policy, and research—for all types of plant-touching marijuana and hemp businesses (cultivators, retailers, extractors, product manufacturers, distributors, and testing labs), ancillary businesses, investors, trade associations, and governmental bodies.
Historically, equity investors in the startup and venture capital space have been typically more comfortable dealing with corporations. However, in their experience, they have seen investors become more comfortable investing in LLCs—leading to more and more entrepreneurs electing the LLC structure.
There was also an explanation of the licensing process. There are a variety of entity types to choose from, but most cannabis ventures are either a corporation or a limited liability company (LLC). The LLC is the newest type of business entity and provides the most flexibility. Whether the LLC will be operated more similarly to a corporation or a partnership is a decision for each respective LLC’s founders.
