Stop Instagram Carousel Cropping | Use the “Mixed” Ratio Setting

Tired of Instagram cropping your carousel photos — or worse, cutting off people’s heads? There’s a simple fix! In this quick Instagram tutorial, I’ll show you how to use the Mixed ratio setting when creating an Instagram carousel with both vertical and horizontal photos. This is especially helpful when you’re sharing:– Event or conference photos– Real estate listing photos– Community events– Birthday or personal photo dumps– End-of-month recaps– Behind-the-scenes content   When you’re creating your carousel, select your photos, tap Next → Ratio → Mixed. Instagram will preserve the orientation of your vertical and horizontal photos instead of forcing everything into the same crop. One important caveat: The Mixed ratio option works when you’re posting photos with different orientations. If your carousel includes both photos and videos, your media will need to use the same dimensions.Save this tip and share it with someone whose Instagram carousels could use a little help! P.S. I recently taught an entire class on Instagram Carousel Posts Made Simple inside the #GetSocialSmart Academy. Academy members can log into the dashboard to watch the replay and grab the resources. The Anatomy of a Great Instagram Reel: 4 Things Every Reel Needs

What makes a great Instagram Reel? It’s not fancy editing, dancing, or trying to go viral. In this video, I’m breaking down the four things every great Reel needs: hook, value, personality, and a call to action.Whether you’re a real estate agent, broker, small business owner, or entrepreneur, this simple framework can help you create Reels that stop the scroll AND help people connect with you. You’ll learn:– How to create a hook that gets people to stop scrolling– Why value is about more than simply sharing information– How your personality and perspective help your content stand out– Simple calls to action that don’t always involve asking for the sale– Why you don’t need fancy editing to create effective Reels   Remember:Hook = stopValue = stayPersonality = connectCTA = what to do next You don’t need to overcomplicate your Reels. Start with these four things and build from there! 3 Simple Ways to Stay Organized With Your Content (Plus a Backup System)

How do you stay organized with your social media content without spending hours every week? In this video, I’m sharing three simple ways I organize my content – plus the backup system I use to make sure I never lose what I create. Having a simple content organization system can make such a difference, especially if you’re a real estate agent or small business owner creating your own social media content. I’ll walk you through how I keep a running list of content ideas so I always have something to record, how I organize Canva with folders and reusable templates, and how I use albums on my phone to keep my videos, photos and other assets easy to find. Plus, I’m sharing my monthly backup system. At the end of each month, I move my content off my phone and save it to Dropbox. You could also use Google Drive, iCloud or whatever system works best for you. Remember – social media is rented ground. We don't own Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or YouTube, which is why it’s so important to save and own the content you work hard to create. You don’t need a complicated system. You just need a simple one you’ll actually use! 00:00 Content Organization Overview00:07 Keep a Running List of Content Ideas00:33 Organize Canva With Folders and Templates01:30 Organize Videos and Assets With Phone Albums02:04 Back Up and Own Your Content02:39 Wrap Up and Next Steps CONNECT WITH KATIE: 🔗 Learn more about Katie Lance: https://katielance.com/ 🔗 Check out the #GetSocialSmart Academy: https://katielance.com/academy 🔗 Free Content Grid: https://www.katielance.com/contentgrid 🔗 Book Katie as a speaker: https://www.katielance.com/speaking 🔗 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KatieLance 🔗 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katielance/ 🔗 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/katielanceconsulting 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/katielance/ VIDEOS TO WATCH NEXT:🔗 4 Easy Video Ideas for Real Estate Agents Who Don’t Know What to Post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8VYCWMTa8I&t=13s🔗 How to Find Your Voice on Social Media as a Real Estate Agent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McX3QrVLDaM🔗 How to Audit Your Social Media Content Before Building a Strategy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G20Q4CIS4w8 Want to go deeper with your social media strategy, content planning, video marketing and AI? 3 Simple Systems to Stay Consistent With Content (Without Spending Hours)

Struggling to stay consistent with your social media content – without spending hours every week creating, editing and posting? The answer may not be creating MORE content. You may just need better systems. In this video, I’m sharing three simple systems I’ve used for years to stay organized, batch-create content, post consistently and save time. We’ll talk about: – How to create a simple system for posting and scheduling your content– When to post manually vs. schedule ahead– Tools like CapCut that can make video editing faster and easier– How to use AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude without losing your voice– Why time blocking is one of the keys to content consistency– How I break content tasks into daily, weekly and monthly activities– Why batching content can save you hours throughout the month You don’t need to spend hours every day on social media. You need a repeatable system that makes it easier to show up consistently – even when business and life get busy. And remember: AI can help you brainstorm, optimize and work faster, but your audience still wants to hear from YOU – your stories, your opinions, your experiences and your perspective. 4 Easy Video Ideas for Real Estate Agents Who Don’t Know What to Post

Do you ever sit down to create content and immediately think, “I have no idea what video to make?" You’re not alone – and creating video content doesn’t have to be complicated. In this episode of The Katie Lance Podcast, I’m sharing four simple types of videos that real estate agents can keep in their back pocket and rinse and repeat throughout the month. We’ll talk about: – Simple B-roll videos you can create from clips already on your phone– How to create a “day in the life” video without filming every second of your day– Why an end-of-month recap is one of my favorite low-lift pieces of content– Why talking directly to the camera is still one of the most powerful things you can do to build trust and generate business– How batching your videos can make consistency so much easier Here’s the big reminder: people want to hear from YOU. AI can help you brainstorm, optimize and save time – but it shouldn’t replace your voice. If you want your content to help you stand out, build relationships and ultimately generate leads, people need to get a sense of who you are and what you’re all about. You don’t need fancy equipment. You don’t need every video to be perfect. Done is better than perfect! Which of these four video ideas are you going to try first? #GetSocialSmart Academy Spotlight: Deborah Wess on Consistency, Confidence & Simple Video Habits

What if getting better at social media and video wasn’t about doing more – but about getting comfortable doing the simple things consistently? In this #GetSocialSmart Academy Spotlight, I’m chatting with Deborah West, a Broker Associate in the Chicagoland area, longtime Academy member, and Mastermind attendee. Deborah and I talk about her journey with social media, what she’s learned through the Academy, and why “done is better than perfect” continues to be such an important reminder. We also get into something I think a lot of real estate professionals can relate to: social media keeps changing! Deborah shares a funny “reverse aha moment” from our Mastermind when she arrived with a detailed content plan – only to hear me say that my recommendations had evolved. 😄 That’s the reality of marketing today. What worked a few years ago – or even last year – may not be what I recommend today. Being willing to learn, adjust, and keep moving forward is so important. One of my favorite parts of our conversation is Deborah’s advice for anyone nervous about video. Her suggestion? Start by sending simple birthday videos. No editing. No posting publicly. No pressure. Just a quick “Happy birthday!” video sent privately to someone you know. It’s such a simple way to get used to seeing yourself on camera, hearing your voice, and building the habit of recording video. Think of it as training wheels for video! In this episode, we talk about: – Why consistency matters more than perfection– How the Academy has impacted Deborah’s business and marketing– The value of community, accountability, and ongoing learning– Why your social media strategy needs to evolve– Deborah’s experience attending our Mastermind– Why investing in yourself can be one of the best investments in your business– A simple way to start building your video confidence today Whether you’re brand new to social media or you’ve been creating content for years, I hope Deborah’s story reminds you that you don’t have to have everything figured out. Start small. Stay consistent. Keep learning. And remember – done is better than perfect! CONNECT WITH DEBORAH WEST Deborah is a Broker Associate serving the Chicagoland area.
