    A Year in the League: 2011 Major League Baseball

    Some baseball seasons are remembered for champions. Others are remembered for unforgettable players. But every once in a while, a season delivers everything—record-breaking performances, historic collapses, incredible comebacks, and a World Series that still has fans shaking their heads years later. The unforgettable 2011 Major League Baseball season was a year when Justin Verlander dominated the American League, Matt Kemp came within inches of one of the greatest individual seasons in modern baseball. It was also the final season of Albert Pujols' legendary run in St. Louis before free agency changed the baseball landscape. Also we'll revisit one of the wildest final days in regular-season history, when the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves completed stunning September collapses while the Tampa Bay Rays and St. Louis Cardinals pulled off miraculous postseason berths.     HSS Special: New York Knicks Championship reaction

    After 53 years of heartache, bad teams and near misses, the New York Knicks are now the toast of the NBA. Saturday night, behind Jalen Brunson's 45 point performance in game Five in San Antonio, the Knicks long awaited dream of a world championship finally came true. In this all-new episode of the podcast, Charles Combs and Dana Auguster provide their reaction to the recently completed NBA finals where the New York Knicks completed an improbable run to capture the Larry O'Brien trophy for the first time since 1973. We will discuss what we witnessed in this championship series between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs where the Knicks finally rewarded their fans with a championship that many people in that lonely lot was convinced would never happen in their lifetime. We will take a look at the finals series with fresh and hot takes on both teams that caused some debates between the two of us so please stay tuned for that.     1976 Cleveland Cavaliers: The Miracle at Richfield

    Over the years the Cleveland sports scene has had to endure some painful and heartbreaking losses, more then its fair share. From "The Fumble", to "The Drive", to coming oh so close with their baseball team in several instances in the fall classic. Yet the Cleveland Cavaliers finally answered the prayers of all northeast Ohio in 2016, erasing a 3-1 deficit in the NBA finals to give the city along Lake Erie its much needed and delayed championship, the city's first in several generations. Yet during the down years of Cleveland sports in the mid 1970s, it was their basketball team that filled the void, climbing from an obscure NBA expansion team to not only capturing the hearts of Cleveland fans but captured the attention of the entire basketball world. In this episode co hosts Dana Auguster and Charles Combs are heading back to the 1976 NBA playoffs to revisit one of basketball's most remarkable Cinderella stories—the "Miracle at Richfield." Just five years after joining the league as an expansion franchise, the Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the basketball world by defeating the heavily favored Washington Bullets and capturing the imagination of an entire city. We'll examine how a team of overlooked players, a passionate fan base, and a little bit of playoff magic combined to create one of the greatest upsets in NBA history.
