    277. The Real Reason You Keep Going Back After Setting Boundaries

Have you ever set a boundary, chosen yourself, or walked away from a situation you knew wasn't healthy only to find yourself overwhelmed with guilt, anxiety, self-doubt, or the urge to go back? If so, you're not alone. In this episode, Dr. Kelly Kessler explores one of the biggest misconceptions about boundaries: the hard part isn't setting them. The hard part is staying loyal to yourself afterward. You'll learn why choosing yourself can trigger anxiety, guilt, overthinking, and the pull back into old patterns of self-abandonment. Kelly explains how the nervous system often interprets disappointing others, creating conflict, or stepping outside familiar roles as a threat, making it difficult to maintain boundaries even when you know they're right for you. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why boundaries often feel harder after you've set them• The connection between guilt, people-pleasing, and self-abandonment• Why your mind spirals and your body reacts after choosing yourself• How fear of rejection, conflict, and disappointing others keeps you stuck• The difference between setting a boundary and staying loyal to yourself• How to build the nervous system capacity to stop abandoning yourself If you've ever found yourself taking back a boundary, overexplaining your decisions, or questioning whether you're being selfish for honoring your needs, this conversation will help you understand what's really happening beneath the surface. Because the goal isn't simply setting boundaries. The goal is becoming the woman who can stay connected to herself even when guilt, fear, uncertainty, and other people's expectations try to pull her back into self-abandonment. 276. What Your Body Remembers: Healing Ancestral Wounds, Trauma & Forgiveness with Dr. Richard Grossman

Can trauma live beyond our personal memories? In this powerful conversation, Dr. Kelly Kessler sits down with Doctor of Oriental Medicine Richard Grossman to explore ancestral wounds, somatic healing, forgiveness, plant medicine, and the hidden burdens we carry in the body. Together they discuss trauma stored in the nervous system, past-life experiences, ancestral healing, emotional release, and why true healing may begin when we stop reliving the story and start listening to what the body remembers. Whether you're curious about ayahuasca, forgiveness, trauma healing, or the connection between mind, body, and spirit, this episode offers a thought-provoking perspective on what it means to heal deeply. Richard Grossman, L.Ac., O.M.D., Ph.D. is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine who has practiced energy healing and integrative medicine in Los Angeles for decades. His clinical work draws on acupuncture, Oriental medicine, and somatic approaches to healing — disciplines that attend to what the body holds long after the conscious mind has moved on.In 1984, a plant medicine ceremony led by an elder in Mexico opened something unexpected. Grossman encountered visions of what felt like other lifetimes: a Nazi concentration camp, the jungles of Vietnam, ancient Rome and Egypt. It was the beginning of a long inquiry. He attended the 2005 Iquitos International Amazonian Shamanism Conference, deepening his engagement with traditional plant medicine healing, and in the years that followed became a facilitator of those medicines himself. Through plant medicine and somatic healing work, he encountered what felt like an unbroken chain of trauma reaching back to the earliest moments of human self-awareness — past-life visions, ancient wounds, and a prehistoric clearing he recognized as the place it all began. Whether those experiences were past lives, ancestral memory, or something else entirely, he cannot say. But the healing was real. Feather on the Heart, his first novel, is what emerged. He is also the author of Trust and Forgive: The Medicine of Your Life (2024). Grossman lives and practices in Los Angeles. He is available for interviews, speaking engagements, book club conversations, and events focused on integrative medicine, plant medicine, and healing. 274. You're Not Broken, You're Patterned

For most of my life, I didn't recognize self-abandonment as a pattern. I thought saying yes when I meant no was just being kind. I thought shrinking my needs so others stayed comfortable was just being easy to be around. I thought overriding my exhaustion to keep performing was just being strong. It wasn't until I slowed down enough to really look that I saw it not as a flaw, not as something broken in me, but as a pattern my nervous system learned to keep me safe, accepted, and loved. Seeing it changed everything. In this episode, we're going to do that together. Using somatic and subconscious practices, I guide you through gently noticing the moments you've been leaving yourself and what it actually feels like in your body when you choose yourself instead. Because awareness is the first act of self-loyalty. What we cover in this episode: • Why self-abandonment isn't a character flaw — it's a survival strategy your nervous system learned early • What self-abandonment actually looks like in the quiet, everyday moments (not the dramatic ones) • The felt difference between abandoning yourself and choosing yourself — in your body • A somatic and subconscious practice to help you become a compassionate witness to your own patterns This week's loyalty vow: "I see the pattern and I am no longer invisible to myself." — Ready to go deeper? World champion Olympic weightlifter, poet, and Happy Body co-creator Jerzy Gregorek joins Kelly Kessler on Rewiring Health for a conversation that will change how you think about aging, movement, and your own potential. After surviving political persecution in Poland, escaping as a refugee, and rebuilding his life from nothing, Jerzy developed a philosophy that is as simple as it is powerful: hard choices, easy life. 272. You Didn't Lose Yourself. You Abandoned Yourself to Survive. (Here's the Difference)

There's a reframe in this episode that changes everything about how you find your way back to yourself — and it starts with one word. Most women say they lost themselves. But losing something is an accident. What actually happened is more specific, more honest, and ultimately more hopeful than that. You abandoned yourself. In thousands of small moments, over years, in ways that made complete sense at the time. You overrode what you felt. You silenced what was true. You made yourself smaller to stay connected, keep the peace, and belong in relationships where love felt conditional. And your nervous system learned that pattern so thoroughly that it now happens automatically — before you even realize you've left yourself behind. In this episode, Dr. Kelly Kessler breaks down exactly what self-abandonment looks like in a real woman's real life, why trying harder to change it keeps you stuck, and what actually creates the shift — starting with getting honest about exactly where you're still doing it. You'll walk away with: The reframe that changes how you understand self-abandonmentSpecific real-life examples that will make you say "that's exactly me"Why willpower alone will never break this patternA simple somatic practice to use the next time you feel yourself leavingClarity on where to actually focus your energy If you want to know specifically where self-abandonment is still running in your life, take the free Self-Abandonment Audit. 271. Why High-Achieving Women Still Feel Unwell: The Truth About Root-Cause Healing & Self-Healing Power with Marcus Fernandez

If you’ve done the therapy, set the boundaries, and still find your body holding onto stress, symptoms, or chronic issues, this episode will shift how you understand healing entirely. In this conversation, Dr. Kelly Kessler sits down with Marcus Fernandez, a global leader in homeopathic education and Principal of the Centre for Homeopathic Education, to explore what it really means to heal at the root—not just manage symptoms. Marcus shares how a personal health experience led him from a completely conventional path into natural medicine, and why true healing isn’t about fixing the body—it’s about activating the intelligence already within it. Together, they unpack: Why so many high-achieving women still feel unwell even after “doing the work”The difference between symptom suppression and true root-cause healingHow homeopathy works (and why it’s more individualized than conventional approaches)The hidden ways we’ve been conditioned to give our health power awayThe 4 foundational pillars (MEDS framework) that create real, sustainable wellnessWhy your body already knows how to heal and what blocks that process This episode is not about rejecting modern medicine. It’s about becoming informed, empowered, and deeply connected to your own body again. If you’ve been overriding your body for years…This conversation will show you a different way back. Marcus Fernandez has been at the forefront of homeopathic education for over three decades. As Principal of The Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE), he’s trained thousands of practitioners through a curriculum that balances classical knowledge with modern application. His work is rooted in a belief that natural medicine should be practical, empowering, and accessible - not mystified or gatekept. His latest book 'Homeopathy at Home' reflects that ethos. Designed to be used, not shelved, it offers simple, step-by-step guidance for everyday ailments using natural remedies. Its success, reaching #1 in Amazon’s holistic medicine category, reflects a rising demand for family-focused, self-directed wellness. Marcus also created an AI-powered virtual assistant that lets people ask home prescribing questions 24/7 - a project born from his desire to make quality natural health advice as available as online misinformation. While his formal background is in homeopathy, Marcus speaks just as comfortably about men’s health, slow living, and holistic longevity. He co-hosts Beyond the Shed, a raw and reflective podcast spotlighting unfiltered conversations about men’s emotional health — part of a wider mission to create space for honesty, healing, and ownership in the way we care for ourselves and each other. Whether he’s teaching herbal remedies in a London classroom or exploring health span strategies on a podcast, Marcus brings curiosity, compassion, and depth to every conversation. His message is clear: the body already knows how to heal — we just have to give it the right tools. Marcus' warmth and wisdom makes natural health both useful and deeply human. 270. The 3 Capacities of Self-Trust: Containment, Discernment & Sovereignty (Inspired by Carl Jung)

You’ve done the self-awareness work. You understand your patterns. You know you want to stop abandoning yourself. So why does it still feel hard to hold a boundary, trust your decisions, or choose yourself in the moment? In this episode, Dr. Kelly Kessler explores the gap between knowing and actually living in self-trust—and why that gap isn’t about willpower or mindset. Drawing from the individuation work of Carl Jung and her clinical experience working with high-achieving women, she introduces three essential capacities that begin to emerge as you come back into alignment with yourself: Containment — the ability to hold yourself without collapsing into othersDiscernment — knowing what is yours to carry and what isn’tSovereignty — acting from your own internal authority, even under pressureYou’ll learn how these capacities get conditioned out of you, how they show up in your body, and how to begin rebuilding them through simple, somatic practices. Because self-trust isn’t something you think your way into. It’s something your body learns to hold.
