    289. Why You’re Anxious, Exhausted & Overwhelmed: The Missing Piece No One Talks About | Dr. Oscar Coetzee

What if the anxiety, exhaustion, brain fog, or feeling that you just can’t keep pushing anymore isn’t only about what’s happening in your mind? In this episode of Rewiring Health, I’m joined by Dr. Oscar Coetzee for a fascinating conversation about the often-overlooked connection between nutrition, gut health, stress, inflammation, blood sugar, and mental well-being. Dr. Oscar brings more than 25 years of experience in psychology and nutrition and currently serves as VP of Clinical Education and Practitioner Support at Designs for Health. His extensive academic background includes faculty positions at Georgetown Medical School, Notre Dame University, and the University of Bridgeport, along with advanced degrees in psychology, human nutrition, holistic nutrition, and clinical nutrition. Together, we explore why symptoms like anxiety, fatigue, overwhelm, difficulty losing weight, and feeling “off” may require us to look beyond the symptom itself and ask a different question: What is the body trying to tell us? In this conversation, we dive into: The overlooked physiological side of mental healthHow blood sugar fluctuations can influence how you feelThe relationship between nutrient status, the gut, and the brainWhy chronic stress isn’t simply something you can “get rid of”How overstimulation and perfectionism affect the bodyWhy gut health and the microbiome matter far beyond digestionFunctional testing and what it may reveal that conventional testing doesn’tInflammation and the body’s remarkable ability to compensateGLP-1s, weight-loss resistance, and the microbiomeWhy Dr. Oscar believes we need to rethink our obsession with calories and restrictive diets This conversation is an invitation to stop looking at the body as something that is failing you and begin getting curious about what it may be communicating and what it needs in order to function more optimally. If you’ve been doing the mindset work but still feel anxious, depleted, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your body, this episode may give you an entirely different lens through which to understand what’s happening. 288. Why High Achievers Burn Out: You’re Stuck in the Wrong State

For high achievers, pushing harder can become a way of life. You wake up thinking about what needs to get done. You move from responsibility to responsibility. You bring work energy home. Even when you finally have a chance to rest, part of you is still switched on. In this episode of Rewiring Health, I’m joined by Deri Llewellyn-Davies for a powerful conversation about performance, burnout, purpose, fear, recovery, and what it really takes to live well when you’re wired to achieve. Deri grew up in a small rural village in Wales, where community and shared responsibility were simply part of how life worked. That early foundation shaped the way he later approached leadership, pressure, and decision-making.Over the past three decades, Deri has advised and sat on more than 330 boards, becoming known for identifying the real constraint beneath the noise and helping founders and organizations think more clearly when the stakes are high. His signature Strategy on a Page methodology became a number-one bestseller and has helped thousands of founders scale with greater clarity and purpose. But Deri’s understanding of performance didn’t come only from the boardroom. He has also spent years testing the limits of human performance in extreme environments—climbing six of the world’s highest mountains, completing the Marathon des Sables, racing Ironman, and facing moments where survival itself was uncertain. Those experiences became a kind of laboratory for understanding what happens to the mind and body under pressure—and why some of the same traits that help high achievers succeed can eventually become the very things that exhaust them. That intersection of leadership, extreme performance, neuroscience, and lived experience led Deri to create Ultra States, a framework built around a simple but powerful idea: You are always in a state. The question is whether you chose it. Through Ultra States, Deri explores the distinct states of focus, flow, connection, recovery, and peak performance and why sustainable success depends less on forcing yourself to perform constantly and more on learning how to move intentionally between them. In this conversation, we explore: -Why ambition itself isn’t necessarily the problemThe difference between pushing from purpose and pushing from fear -Why burnout can happen when you stay in one dominant state for too long -How to create the conditions for flow instead of waiting for it to happen -How your physiology can overpower even the strongest mindset work -Why reaching for your phone first thing in the morning can immediately affect your state -Why attaching your identity too tightly to achievement can become dangerous Deri also shares the deeply personal experiences that shaped his philosophy, including the death of his father, confronting regret, facing life-threatening moments in extreme environments, and learning through fatherhood how easily intensity can follow us from work into the relationships that matter most. 287. Why You Go Back After Choosing Yourself

Have you ever set a boundary or made a decision you knew was right for you, only to question everything the moment someone became upset? The guilt hits. You start explaining, softening the boundary, or wondering if you're selfish. Suddenly, going back to the old pattern feels easier than staying with your decision. In this episode of Rewiring Health, I'm sharing part of a live conversation about the part of choosing yourself we don't talk about enough: what happens after you do it. You'll learn why internal pressure, identity shifts, and other people's reactions can make an aligned decision feel threatening and why you can find yourself pleasing, appeasing, or over-explaining even when you know better. If this episode helped you recognize some of the ways you may be leaving yourself behind to keep the peace, I created a free Self-Abandonment Audit to help you take that awareness deeper. It will help you identify where self-abandonment may be showing up in your life and begin reconnecting with what you actually need. You can download it here: https://drkellykessler.com/selfaudit If you're listening to this thinking, “I already know what I need. My struggle is staying with myself when the guilt, fear, second-guessing, or someone else's reaction kicks in,” that's exactly the gap we work on inside my Self-Loyalty Mentorship. This isn't just about setting the boundary or making the decision. It's about building the capacity to stay loyal to yourself after you make it, when someone is disappointed, when you're misunderstood, and when everything in you wants to go back to the familiar just to make the discomfort stop. If you're ready to stop abandoning yourself in the moments it gets hard and learn how to stay grounded in the choices that honor you, you can apply for the Self-Loyalty Mentorship here: https://drkellykessler.com/selfloyaltymentorship You don't just deserve to choose yourself. You deserve to feel safe enough to stay with yourself once you do.

    286. Why You Know What to Do but Still Can’t Make Yourself Do It | Lizzie Merritt

Have you ever thought, I know what to do… so why can’t I just do it? You know the foods you want to eat. You know movement matters. You may have started the diet, made the plan, promised yourself that this time would be different and still found yourself back in the same cycle. What if the problem isn’t that you need more discipline? In this episode of Rewiring Health, I’m joined by certified life coach and bestselling author Lizzie Merritt for a conversation that goes far beyond weight loss. Lizzie shares her own experience of knowing all the “right” things to do while still turning to food to cope and how learning about behavior change, self-compassion, and nervous system safety completely changed the way she understood the struggle. We explore why shame can actually reinforce the behaviors you’re trying to change, why food may be serving an important emotional function, and how weight can become deeply intertwined with identity, worth, belonging, and the belief that you’re somehow not enough. We also talk about: Why taking away emotional eating without replacing what it provides can backfireHow to work with your body, emotions, and thoughts from the bottom upThe connection between people-pleasing, stress, and reaching for foodWhy you are not responsible for managing everyone else’s emotionsHow perfectionism and pushing harder can keep you stuckWhy rest may be one of the most overlooked pieces of lasting changeHow to separate your worth from your weightSimple tools for creating safety when emotions feel overwhelmingLizzie also shares a powerful reminder: weight loss doesn’t have to be the destination. It can become a doorway into understanding yourself more deeply and creating the life you actually want to live. Lizzie Merritt is a certified life coach and bestselling author of LIGHT: The New Psychology of Weight Loss and You Are A Miracle. A former middle school science teacher, she brings together brain science, behavior change, humor, and self-compassion to help women over 40 create a different relationship with food, their bodies, and themselves. If you’ve spent years believing you just need to try harder, this conversation may help you ask a very different question: What if I don’t need more willpower? 285. Your Anger Is Not The Problem. It's The Message.

Most people were taught that anger is ugly, dangerous, or unspiritual like it was something to manage, suppress, or apologize for, but according to David Hawkins' Map of Consciousness, anger calibrates higher than shame, guilt, grief, and apathy. It is not a regression. It is your soul waking up and declaring it can no longer tolerate what it has been. In this live, we'll use somatic and subconscious practice to get curious about your anger to listen to what it's protecting, what it can no longer tolerate on your behalf, and what change it's pointing you toward. Anger that is felt doesn't need to explode. It becomes direction for releasing what's is no longer yours to hold and claiming what is. 284. Why Self-Care Isn't Working and What You're Missing | Nuttha Goutier

Most women don't struggle because they don't know how to take care of themselves. They struggle because they've turned self-care into another item to check off a never-ending to-do list. In this episode of Rewiring Health®, I sit down with Nuttha Goutier, founder of Sabai Thai Spa, who grew up in a remote Thai village without running water or electricity. Despite having very little materially, she experienced something many people in modern society are desperately missing: deep connection, presence, community, and a relationship with wellness that wasn't earned. Together we explore: Why so many successful people still feel emptyThe hidden difference between doing self-care and experiencing itWhy guilt keeps us disconnected from ourselvesHow your morning routine shapes your entire nervous systemThe surprising power of gratitude and sensory awarenessWhy massage is about far more than relieving muscle tensionHow identity creates lasting changeSimple daily practices that help you reconnect with yourself before burnout takes over If you've been checking every box, accomplishing every goal, and still feeling like something is missing... this conversation may explain why. 283. Why One Text Message Can Ruin Your Entire Day (It's Not What You Think)

One text message. That name...and suddenly everything unraveled. Here's what most people don't realize: it was never really about the text. What's actually happening runs much deeper than words on a screen and until you understand it, you'll keep finding yourself hijacked by moments exactly like this one. What if the biggest thing holding you back isn't your body... but the invisible beliefs you've been wearing your entire life? In this episode of Rewiring Health, I sit down with nutritionist, behavior specialist, and TEDx speaker Carrie Lupoli to explore the powerful metaphor behind The Invisible Corset: the cultural conditioning that teaches women their worth depends on being smaller, quieter, prettier, or more accommodating. Together we unpack: Why so many women tie their worth to their appearanceHow diet culture becomes an identity—not just a behaviorThe hidden beliefs that keep you chasing "I'll be happy when..."Why confidence never comes from losing weightHow to stop outsourcing your value and reclaim your own voiceThe difference between living from conditioning versus living from your true identity If you've ever felt like you're constantly trying to become "enough," this conversation may completely change how you see yourself.
