Updated Review: I am upping from 3 to 5 stars because it’s obvious they were listening to feedback. The tone has been notably more positive (no more “F the year 202X comments”) and I noticed they are giving Nadia the floor so she doesn’t have to interrupt (although I’m still skeptical that her feed might be a bit delayed which causes those awkward interjections).
As far as the industry discussions are concerned, I wasn’t saying don’t have them. My point was just that they mostly all consisted of layoff news with absolutely no discussion of the macroeconomic environment or any other useful context. Yes, layoffs are happening and newsworthy, but that’s just one slice of larger industry discussion and it leaves me wondering if your stance is that these companies should just run themselves into the ground because their cost structures are unsustainable. Yes Bobby Kotick is a douche but there are many factors that play into the situation apart from Greedy Chief Executive.
Great work guys. Much love from Wisconsin.
PS Eric’s FFX love affair proves the truism that everyone’s favorite final fantasy is the one that came out closest to their 14th birthday :)
Old review:
When this podcast is humming it’s the best RPG podcast around but is stymied by the nearly constant negativity. Pair this with inane and biased industry “discussion”, constant interruptions by Nadia, Eric’s contrarian takes and tendency to refocus any discussion around FF10, and you have a 3 star podcast.
I’ll still tune in every week because there’s still more good than bad, it’s just disappointing to watch/listen to a group that could be so awesome constantly shooting themselves in the foot.
I hope the gang reads this and I’ll be thrilled to update my review if things change for the better.
