Slow Parenting Series: Teaching Emotional Regulation to Children

Slow Parenting Series: Teaching Emotional Regulation to Children

This this episode of our Slow Parenting Series we are talking about emotional regulation and how we can teach this to our children.
To be able to teach emotional regulation to your kids you need to be able to self regulate your own emotions. It is not healthy for children to be in an environment that their caretakers lash out in ways that they can't expect. So you need to take a minute a look within! Where you are is where you are, where you are is not where you want to be and where you want to go. Slow living is about taking steps to get to where you want to go.
How do you teach emotional regulation to your kids if your not emotionally regulated yourself?
How to implement in your own family?
Let's talk about how you can regulate your emotions so that you can be the best version of yourself to teach your own children.

Slow Parenting Series: School Age Readiness

Slow Parenting Series: School Age Readiness

As we continue through the Slow Parenting Series, let's take a pause and go back to the basics. The purpose of slow parenting is to slow down and thoughtfully and purposefully plan what is next. Today we are talking about school age readiness! Here are some key points that I want you to take away from this episode:
You can go into things with a plan but also be prepared for those plans to changeSometimes what is best is to unplug from researching and just be presentKeep the end in sight, you are not raising children but you are raising adults
I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and child psychology and have spent my entire adult life working with children and families.
In this episode I share some ideas on how to best prepare your child for the academic, social, emotional, and physical aspects of full day school.
For more information on school age readiness, you may enjoy reading some ideas I have on "afterschool homeschooling," here.

    Embracing a Minimalist Mindset

    Embracing a Minimalist Mindset

What does it mean to have a minimal mindset? We are talking about simple and actionable steps to get you there.
My favorite acronym for SLOW is Simply Look Only Within and I use this in everything I do. In fact, it goes right along with my daily journaling guide that I am sharing with you today! In the journal, I talk about something called the Peace Pyramid which is comprised of 6 parts.
    Time ManagementHealthFinancesOrganizationRelationshipsPeace
When you are surrounded by clutter it affects how you feel on a daily basis. However, organization can give you instant relief and rescue from the overwhelm. Creating a daily schedule can also help you achieve your to do list in a more simpler way. These are all topics we are talking about in today's episode!
Just remember, move forward with intention.

Throughout the beginning of her career, she realized that productivity is her specialty. Which was the lightbulb to start her company, The Organizer Chicks.

Moms Overcoming Overwhelm ,

Ditch the unrealistic expectations and mom guilt - it’s time to slow down and simplify!

Stephanie is not only a wealth of knowledge about how to slow down and simplify, but she is a calm, yet firm presence reminding me of what truly matters. When I’m tempted to compare myself to other moms who presumably “have it all together”, I’m reminded of Stephanie’s wonderful acronym for SLOW - Simply Look Only Within. I was recently a guest on the Slow Living Podcast and it was such a pleasure speaking to a like-minded (and like-hearted) woman who is also on a mission to help moms ditch perfectionism and unrealistic expectations. Thank you Steph for all you do! Sincerely, Emily from the Moms Overcoming Overwhelm Podcast

Grateful

I am so grateful to Steph! I love her podcast, her common sense and easy flow to life. I’ve listened to her for over a year now and have worked with her one on one. She gave me great insight to some hiccups I had about my day. Please slow down and listen. You won’t regret it.

Stick to recipes

Recipes are useful…the life advice, not so much. Seems like just another person trying to be some sort of “life coach” and make a buck online. Tried a few episodes because I like the cookbooks…a lot of fluff and regurgitated self help. Stick to cookbooks!
