The New Norm
When I was in high school, one of my nicknames was “Norm.” In my first real job out of college, I was one of two “Steves” at the office. Because the other was my boss, I became Norm again. Thus, the “New Norm.” I’ve worked in churches for over twenty years, and part of my current journey is learning, re-learning, and unlearning some critical lessons I picked up along the way. (I also had stints as group fitness instructor, a volunteer police chaplain, and trainer at an ice cream plant, but those are stories I can unpack later.) I’m currently a writer, speaker, and pastor of no particular congregation. This podcast is simple and direct. Every week I’ll share a devotional thought based on something that’s challenging and changing me. Most of these will be directly from a passage of Scripture that’s stretching how I think about spirituality, life, relationships, family, and work.

I’ve had the privilege of listening to Steve preach for many years. His biblical knowledge paired with his relatable storytelling makes him a master of his craft. I’m so excited at add Steve’s podcast to my weekly listening. Steve will challenge you to be reflective while putting God at the center of that reflection.

For a long time now, I’ve known Steve to be a particularly powerful communicator, but more importantly I’ve watched him up close at times and know him to be one who lives out what he preaches as a husband, father, and church leader. His communication style is a great blend of being a finely-tuned wordsmith, often strengthening his own insight with a variety of expert sources on any subject matter he’s speaking about, yet he’s often honest and vulnerable at the right moment too. I’ve always enjoyed his preaching and podcasts and am looking forward to this new weekly offering. Go get ‘em, (new) Norm!

I first had the pleasure to hear Steve Norman teach in the summer of 2012 and to this day, I still uphold him as the most effective biblical teacher I’ve ever heard. This podcast offers the the perfect blend of giving you historical context of what was happening during those times with a parallel of how these truths still apply today. Steve has always had a magic way to marry those two concepts together. Really looking forward to more episodes in the future!
