Ep 96: Cultivating Patience: Strategies for Parents and the Power of Empathy with Leslie Bolser and Dr. Beth Trammell

Ever wondered why the line at the grocery store feels like a test of your soul's patience? You're not alone. This crossover episode with CEV includes my friend, Leslie Bolser, Creative Director for Core Essential Values, where we reveal personal battles with patience, especially in the throes of parenting. The struggle is real, but so are the strategies we share to help cultivate this virtue in ourselves and in the young minds we're guiding. From understanding the developmental limits of children's patience to the art of maintaining it with temperamental teens, this episode is your guide to nurturing patient relationships that can truly flourish.

Navigating tricky supermarket checkouts is small fry compared to the daily patience needed for effective communication with teenagers—it's a delicate dance we discuss. We commit to spreading empathy and kindness even in the smallest of interactions, because, let's face it, the world could use a little more patience. Join us on this journey of self-discovery and skill-building for the sake of our children's future, our sanity, and the unsuspecting cashier who just ran out of receipt paper.

Ep 95: Unlocking Emotional States with Brain Spotting: A Transformative Journey into Healing and Resilience with Jessica Van der Merwe, LMHC, LPC

Have you ever stumbled upon a therapy that speaks to both the intricacies of the brain and the whispers of the body? That's exactly what brain spotting does, and in our recent conversation with trauma specialist Jessica, we uncovered the depths of this transformative therapy. Jessica, with her brain spotting certification, takes us on a journey beyond the confines of traditional therapies and into a realm where eye positions can unlock emotional states. This episode isn't just a discussion; it's an exploration of the therapy's origins in athlete performance enhancement and its astounding flexibility for various issues beyond trauma.

Picture a therapy session where the client is the captain, steering the ship of healing while the therapist sails alongside, navigating by intuition and the principle of uncertainty. That's the empowering approach of brain spotting, and as Jessica shares her personal experiences with the practice, we unravel the differences from the structured protocols of EMDR. With an on-air demonstration, listeners get a front-row seat to the subtleties of this gentle yet profound method, emphasizing the importance of attunement to individual needs and the discovery of eye positions that resonate with the client's internal experience.

Jessica shares insights on how balancing resources and activation is key to not overwhelming those we help. Our conversation illuminates the empowering process of expanding one's window of tolerance for distressing emotions and the gratifying role of therapists who facilitate such intimate work. Join us for an episode that promises to not only enlighten but also inspire a transformation in your understanding of healing and personal growth.

Tips everyone can use!

I found this podcast through being a guest on the podcast. It was really fun to talk with Beth and discuss the importance of marriage meetings for improving couple communication. My speciality is marriage counseling with military and veteran couples, so we talked a lot about some of the unique challenges facing military couples along with tips for military couples navigating military life stressors. Through the interview, Beth’s expertise and kindness was so apparent. This podcast covers many mental health and life tips that everyone could benefit from! I know that listeners will get a lot from the topics covered!
