Redefining Failure: Why "Failing" is the Best Thing That's Happened to You (FBF)

Happy flashback Friday! In honor of Kellie speaking atHarvard University today (yay!!), bringing back one of the episodes from 2020 which discussed one of her favorite topics in her keynote: failure. We’ve all been through it: we fail, we cry, and then wefigure out how to get back up again. It’s tough, it sucks, and most of the timewe don’t understand why it has to be such a necessary part of the journey.Tough luck. Failure is 100% necessary to grow. We don’t hope to fail, but whenwe do, we learn. So… does that mean we ever really failed to begin with? In this episode, I’m transparent, sassy, and emotional (awinning combination) but most of all, I want to make sure you walk away with abetter understanding of why you needed to go through life’s hard parts to grow.My personal experience with failure ranges from falling at a state trackcompetition to bombing college exams, to changing my career in the Navy, tofinishing as the runner-up at MISS CALIFORNIA USA in January 2020. I’ll walk you through four reasons why failure may be thebest thing that’s ever happened to you, because I’ve been through it too, andhow to redefine what it really means to “fail.” Strap in, it’s an emotional one. You’ll walk away with notonly a better understanding of my personal journey, but your own, and why youmay have never really failed to begin with. Challenges We've Faced in a Male-Dominated Career & How We Grew From Them ft. Jackie Barnum Fox (FBF)

In this episode, Kellie talks about what it’s really like to work in a male-dominated field—and the constant battle against stereotypes about how women “should” act, look, or lead. Originally from her previous show, "MissUnderstood," this conversation dives deep into the challenges women face while carving out space for themselves in environments where they’re often the minority. Kellie is joined by her Naval Academy roommate of four years and best friend of ten years, (then) Captain Jackie Barnum Fox, a 2014 U.S. Naval Academy graduate and Marine Corps Logistics Officer. Together, they share honest stories about navigating expectations, finding confidence, and claiming your voice in rooms that weren’t always built for you. Captain Barnum, who has served tours in Okinawa, Japan and California—with deployments to the Philippines, Republic of Korea, and the United Arab Emirates—opens up about leadership, resilience, and the power of authenticity. She’s also a proud dog mom to Ruby, loves coffee and "Friends " quotes, and continues to inspire others through her service and example. This episode is for every woman learning to own her space, speak her truth, and redefine what leadership looks like. Note: originally aired May 20, 2020. Things I Wish I Could Tell Myself at the U.S. Naval Academy

Today, we go back in time to July 1, 2010: the day Kellie entered the U.S. Naval Academy and began her naval career. Four years of rigorous academics, leadership development, military training, and some of the most formative lessons of her life. But if she could go back to that version of herself then, what would she say to save herself from some of the unnecessary stress, anxiety, pressure, and worry? In this episode, Kellie goes back to herself as a fourth-class midshipman at the Naval Academy and shares everything she wishes she could have told herself then. What she wishes she knew when she was overwhelmed by the pressure, consumed by grades, distracted by the wrong things, and trying so hard to keep up in an environment that demands everything from you. This is the episode she wishes someone had handed her when she was in the middle of it. Some of the things she would have told herself: Grades do not define leadership.Hard work will always speak louder than rumors. Not everyone deserves access to your time, energy, or heart. The women beside you will matter more than you realize.Failure is not the end, it is often where growth begins.Your service selection will shape more of your life than you think. You do not have to have everything figured out right now.Kellie also opens up about what she would have done differently: who she would have given less of her time to, why female friendships mattered more than she realized, why protecting your peace and your reputation matters, and how trying something new can sometimes change the entire direction of your life. From service selection to relationships, pressure, identity, and the decisions that shape your future long after graduation, this episode is honest, reflective, and full of the perspective she wishes she had sooner. This episode is for anyone currently in the thick of it, feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, behind, or like everyone else has it figured out except you. They don’t. Stop Waiting for “One Day”: How a Doctor turned Creator Said No to Misery & Built Life on Her Own Terms (Ft. Dr. Noam Raider, Creator & Board-Certified Physician)

What if doing both isn’t a burden, but actually the blueprint for building a life that feels aligned, intentional, and fully yours? In this episode, Kellie sits down with Dr. Noam Raider, double board-certified physician, content creator, and the definition of a modern multi-hyphenate woman, to explore what it truly looks like to build a life outside the box, and not someday, but right now. Noam shares her journey from the rigidity of medical training to designing a life that blends medicine, creativity, femininity, and freedom, all on her own terms. They dive into the real, unfiltered truth about work-life balance (spoiler: it’s not a formula), how to navigate demanding careers while still honoring who you are, and why waiting for the “perfect time” to start living your life will only keep you stuck. This conversation is for the woman who’s tired of feeling like she must choose: Career or creativity, Ambition or softness, Success or self. Because the truth is, you can have everything you want — just not always at the same time. Learning how to move with those seasons instead of against them? That’s where the magic happens. If you’ve ever felt like you’re meant for more than one path, this episode is your permission slip to stop choosing and start creating. How to Get Through Hard Seasons: Our Failed IVF Cycle & Balancing IVF, Career, & Life When It Didn’t Work [S7 Premiere]

How do you keep showing up when everything feels overwhelming behind the scenes? And what does it really involve getting through tough times? In the Season 7 premiere, Kellie shares her IVF journey and the heartbreak of a failed first cycle, the emotional burden of waiting, and the unexpected reality of facing so much uncertainty while continuing to perform in her career and daily life. Throughout this deeply personal season, she shares what it looked like to move forward without having everything figured out. From advocating for herself at work and allowing others to step in and support her, to starting a simple group chat so loved ones knew how to help. She also reflects on learning to protect her energy: by clearing her schedule, stepping back from commitments, and being intentional about who she allows into her hard season. During moments when she feels out of control, she focuses on what she can hold onto: daily routines, health habits, her faith, and releasing outcomes she can’t force. Kellie shares what it meant to take life one day at a time (truly), give herself space to process without pressure, and learn how to move forward without pretending the pain wasn’t still there. Listeners can expect honest reflections and tangible takeaways, including: Trusting your timing, even when it doesn’t match your planAdvocating for yourself and allowing support instead of carrying it aloneProtecting your energy and removing what adds unnecessary pressureFocusing on what you can control when everything else feels uncertainTaking life one day at a time, without needing to have the whole future figured outWhether you’re navigating fertility struggles or simply walking through a heavy season, this conversation is a reminder that you are not alone, even when it feels that way. Because getting through hard things isn’t about being perfect or “overcoming,” it’s about continuing, adapting, and learning how to carry what you’ve been through while still choosing to move forward.  Enjoyed this episode? Balancing Grief & Heavy on Hope: 2025 Reflections & Why I'm Finally Sharing My Fertility Journey [S6 FINALE!]

What happens when the year you’re celebrating is also the year you’re quietly grieving? In the podcast’s season finale, Kellie reflects on a year marked by unexpected growth, meaningful milestones, and moments that didn’t unfold as planned. She celebrates what was accomplished—both personally and within the podcast’s global community—while also making space for the grief that can accompany unmet goals and unspoken expectations. For the first time, Kellie opens up about her personal fertility journey and her desire to start a family. This episode is especially emotional and vulnerable, and she asks listeners to receive it with care. Rooted in reflection, honesty, and hope, the finale leans on gratitude and optimism, honoring what was, holding space for what is, and stepping into 2026with intention, courage, and belief in what’s still possible. Joined by her best friend and licensed family therapist and clinician, Samantha Hardy, Kellie explores the difference between goals and expectations and how to navigate the grief that can arise when they don’t align. Together, they share three practical, therapeutic tips for setting goals and intentions for the year ahead: 1. Use the miracle question from solution-focused therapy to focus on what would be different, rather than what’s wrong. 2. Set yourself up for success by identifying realistic constraints that could get in the way. 2. Get curious about the parts of yourself that resist change, with compassion rather than judgment. This season marked a major milestone for the show, including a rebrand and Kellie’s sixth season as a podcast host. With a 120% increase in audience and over 130k minutes listened to this year, the podcast reached listeners worldwide! WRAPPING UP 6 SEASONS AND 1ST YEAR OF “WHY NOT #DOBOTH” – HAPPY NEW YEAR!
