When someone recommended this to me I thought about how I don’t consider myself interested in fashion per se… because I was thinking of trends. Avery immediately turned that thinking on its head for me. If you are interested in sociology, history, or just curious about the world around you- you will learn something surprising from this podcast. Avery also has an engaging voice that draws you in as a listener. I can’t wait to learn more!

Regardless of how you feel about clothing, this podcast is a fascinating history of all things clothing. And it isn’t all fashion! Clothing is function and history and politics as well!
Lose the Gemini AI garbage

I am usually a big fan of this podcast, and I’ve recommended it to quite a few people. However, the recent episode, “Lace and Labor,” blatantly uses AI to tell the story of the Luddites and the textile workers’ many revolts against the machine of the Industrial Revolution. Are you serious?!? May I refer you to Brian Merchant’s work, Blood In the Machine, and the podcast of the same name? He compares AI to the same pernicious moneyed forces that are undermining the skilled labor classes today as a parallel to the collapse of the skilled textile workers in Ned Ludd’s day. It’s the first extremely wrong note that I’ve heard in this podcast, and a very ironic one. You say you’re worried about podcasters losing their jobs to AI, then you give quite a lot of airtime to a Google Gemini doing a fake podcast that apparently did all your “research” work for you. Normally five stars, I’m subtracting a star for this one obnoxious episode.

Love articles of interest so much, not impressed with the inclusion of an ai generated “ podcast” clip within the podcast (????) at all. I’m interested in the human stories and journalistic efforts of the show, not AI and frankly expected better.
