Decentering Men: Geht’s uns ohne Männer besser?

Was bringt “Decentering Men” als feministische Strategie? Beyond Einstein: The Reality of Quantum Entanglement

This episode traces the shift from classical local realism to the strange reality of quantum entanglement. Once dismissed by Einstein as “spooky action at a distance,” entanglement was later confirmed by Bell’s Theorem and experiments proving the universe is fundamentally non-local. Today, this once-paradoxical idea underpins quantum computing and secure cryptography, making entanglement a cornerstone of the emerging quantum revolution This episode includes AI-generated content.

Where Have The Insects Gone?? With Dr. Jessica Ware

Bugs are disappearing at alarming rates, scientists are telling us. Bees, butterflies, beetles: all of them have been dropping like flies. And scientists say there are a bunch of reasons to care about this — for example, fewer bugs means less pollination, which means less pasta in your pantry. But recently, some have suggested that all these scientists crying out about the insect apocalypse might just be crying wolf. They say that the math isn’t math-ing and that the insects are doing all right. And this has been bugging us! So we called up Dr. Jessica Ware, an entomologist and a curator at the American Museum of Natural History, to find out what’s going on here. And Jessica also specializes in dragonfly lovemaking, so of course, we had to ask about that too.  Find our transcript here: https://tinyurl.com/SVInsectApocalypse  In this episode, we cover: (00:00) Meet entomologist Dr. Jessica Ware  (03:27) Dragonflies: Origins and sex lives  (08:55) The insect apocalypse: How bad is it? • Why Brains Need Friends w/ Dr. Ben Rein

Why Brains Need Friends w/ Dr. Ben Rein

This week, Scott sits down with Dr. Ben Rein, a Stanford neuroscientist and one of today’s most engaging science communicators. Dr. Rein has spent over a decade studying the neuroscience of social interaction, and his new book, Why Brains Need Friends: The Neuroscience of Social Connection, explores how our relationships shape our minds and well-being. Together, they dive into the science of why humans are wired for connection, the growing epidemic of loneliness, and how social interactions influence the brain. They also unpack the neurobiology of empathy—what it is, how it works, and whether we can actually train ourselves to become more empathetic.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. • Why being ‘a little more social’ makes us happier than we expect, with Nicholas Epley, PhD

Why being ‘a little more social’ makes us happier than we expect, with Nicholas Epley, PhD

From chatting with a stranger on the train to reaching out to an old friend, everyday social interactions make us happier than we realize. Yet many people avoid these moments because they expect them to feel awkward or uncomfortable. Nicholas Epley, PhD, author of ‘A Little More Social,’ discusses why people consistently underestimate how much they’ll enjoy all kinds of social interactions; the psychology behind small talk and deep conversations; how technology is changing the way we connect; and why even brief moments of connection can improve our happiness, health and well-being.
