How One “Golden Moment” Can Transform Your Entire Life

What if the life you’re living in now isn't the life you’re meant to stay in? What if you could start writing a new chapter today? In this unforgettable conversation, Mel sits down with one of her favorite authors, John Grisham, whose books have sold nearly half a billion copies worldwide. But this isn't a typical interview about having a legendary career. This is a deeply personal conversation about reinvention, rejection, purpose, and the “golden moments” that change the entire direction of your life. 35 years ago, Mel was starting her first year of law school when she picked up John Grisham’s The Firm, and it opened up a whole new world of possibilities for her life. John would call that a “golden moment”. A moment that becomes the catalyst for a whole new chapter of your life.  You are going to hear why that moment was so special for Mel as well as John sharing his own “golden moments.”  He tells the story behind his own unexpected path: failing English, drifting through college, practicing law, and being rejected as a writer over and over again before writing the book that changed his life forever. You’ll learn: -How to stop treating rejection as proof that you should quit -Why your current path is not your final path -What to do when you feel trapped in a job, career, or identity that no longer fits -Why “one page a day” is a powerful strategy for changing your life -How to create space for a dream, even when your life is busy -What to do when you feel like you’re drifting and don’t know your next move -How to recognize the “golden moments” that can change the direction of your life -Why discipline and consistency matter more than waiting to feel inspired -How to use the stories, setbacks, and detours in your life as material for reinvention -Why it’s never too late to start writing your next chapter This episode is for anyone who feels stuck, discouraged, or unsure what comes next. Because your current path is not your final path, and as John Grisham proves, there is always more of your story left to write.  For more resources related to today’s episode, click here for the podcast episode page.  If you liked the episode, check out this one next: This Conversation Will Change How You Think About Your Entire Life Connect with Mel:   Order Mel’s product, Pure Genius ProteinGet Mel’s newsletter, packed with tools, coaching, and inspiration.Get Mel’s #1 bestselling book, The Let Them Theory Watch the episodes on YouTube Follow Mel on Instagram The Mel Robbins Podcast Instagram Mel's TikTok Subscribe to SiriusXM Podcasts+ to listen to new episodes ad-freeDisclaimer  Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Dame Meera Syal: 12 Years Caring For My Parents & Surviving Divorce

What happens when both of your parents receive life-changing diagnoses within weeks of each other? In this episode of Begin Again, Davina McCall sits down with Dame Meera Syal. Meera shares the gruelling reality of caring for her mother after her cancer diagnosis while her father was living with Alzheimer’s, describing dementia as a “slow, long goodbye” and reflecting on how her family found strength, support and moments of connection through an incredibly difficult 12 years. She also opens up about growing up British Asian, feeling like a misfit, and nearly giving up on acting when she couldn’t see anyone like herself on screen.  From ‘Goodness Gracious Me’ and ‘The Kumars at No. 42’ to becoming a writer, actor and comedian, Meera explains why telling your truth can help others feel less alone. The conversation also explores divorce, co-parenting, the unexpected possibilities of an empty nest, surviving assault, and staying resilient throughout life’s ups and downs. 🌟Like, comment and subscribe for more honest conversations about purpose, resilience, love, loss and beginning again. How to Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck & Finally Get Ahead

In this episode, you’ll learn some of the best financial advice you’ll ever hear - no matter what your financial situation is right now. If getting ahead only seems to be getting harder, and you’re tired of living paycheck to paycheck, you need to hear this: Harder doesn’t have to mean hopeless. Today, Mel sits down with Vivian Tu – bestselling author, and the personal finance educator millions know as Your Rich BFF –  for a conversation about what to do when you’re over feeling broke, behind, or overwhelmed by money. Vivian has been there, and she knows how hard it is to get ahead right now when everything costs more and your paycheck just doesn’t stretch the way it used to. Her message is simple: You don’t have to be broke forever. In this blunt but compassionate conversation, she’s sharing practical moves that can help you start taking your power back – whether you’re buried in debt, starting with nothing saved, worried you’ll never own a home, behind on retirement, or wondering where to begin. You’ll learn:  -Why “just spend less” is bad advice — and the system that works better -The painless way to pay off your debt   -How to get the raise you deserve   -How to think about retirement when you feel hopelessly behind  -The home-buying question most people never ask  -How living with your parents is a power move  -The beginner investing mistake no one warns you about  -The money conversation couples should have much earlier  -The mindset shift from feeling powerless to taking control  Vivian says money is a tool, and the point of having more of it is power, freedom, and the ability to feel in control again – or maybe for the first time. Life isn’t always fair, and getting ahead right now feels harder than it should, but Vivian says there are still moves you can make. You’re not the problem, but you do get to be the solution. Jake Humphrey on Grief, The Trauma Of Childhood Bullying & His Mission To Save Young Men

Do the moments that feel like they’re breaking you actually shape who you’re meant to become? In this episode of Begin Again, Davina McCall sits down with broadcaster, author, and entrepreneur Jake Humphrey for an honest conversation about failure, bullying, masculinity, fatherhood and learning to define success differently. Jake opens up about the loneliness of being bullied at school, failing his A-levels and being told by the BBC, “we don’t employ people like you”, experiences that ultimately helped shape his extraordinary broadcasting career. He also reflects on the pressures facing men today, why he believes young men are being led towards dark corners of the internet, and how empathy, vulnerability and honest conversations can offer a different vision of masculinity. From the powerful influence of his father to becoming a dad himself, Jake shares what parenting has taught him about being present, letting children fail, prioritising what really matters and creating a safe space for them to talk. This is a hopeful conversation about resilience, parenting, masculinity, success and discovering that most of life’s hardest moments lead us towards something extraordinary. 🌟Like, comment and subscribe for more honest conversations about purpose, resilience, love, loss and beginning again. Money Vault - How to make better money decisions

Welcome to the Money Vault, the midweek show where Damien and Andy revisit some classic, evergreen episodes from the Money to the Masses archives. In this episode of The Money Vault, Damien and Andy revisit a 2019 episode where Damien explains how to make better financial decisions by focusing on the process rather than the outcome. He explains the psychological concept of 'outcome bias' and how judging a decision solely by its result can lead to loss aversion and poor investment choices. Using clear examples, he shows why a robust, objective process is essential for long-term financial success, even amid short-term market uncertainty. Oprah Winfrey: How to Find Your Unique Purpose, Authentic Power, and Calling In Life

This episode is a master class on how to live an incredible life. In one of the most powerful conversations ever recorded on The Mel Robbins Podcast, Mel sits down with someone she has looked up to for more than four decades: Oprah Winfrey. Mel first started watching Oprah on local television, before The Oprah Winfrey Show was nationally syndicated. Through every chapter of her own life, Mel has returned to Oprah’s work for perspective, encouragement, and direction. This is more than an interview for Mel. It is deeply personal. Now you get to hear the questions she has wanted to ask Oprah for years. Oprah starts this episode by saying, “I want everybody to know that you have the power to fulfill the fullest expression of yourself as a human being.” She is teaching you how to do that today.  Oprah shares what she learned, growing up feeling unloved and “red dirt road poor” in Mississippi to extraordinary success. She discusses painful mistakes, difficult family relationships, and moments when she ignored her own intuition and paid the price.  What she reveals is surprisingly simple: You already have an internal GPS. Oprah will teach you how to hear it, and find the courage to follow it.  In this episode, you’ll learn: -How to recognize the thread of purpose that has been running through your life all along -Why intention changes the way you experience your work, relationships, and choices -The single question Oprah asks when something in her life is not working -Oprah’s best advice: “You are allowed to change your mind,” and what happened when she ignored it -What to do when something painful or unfair happens and you have to figure out how to move forward -Oprah’s life-changing definition of forgiveness -The “10-gallon versus pint-size” lesson that helped her heal her relationship with her mother -The single spiritual practice Oprah comes back to again and again If Oprah Winfrey could sit beside you and help you think through the biggest questions in your life, this is the conversation she would want you to hear. This conversation will help you come back to your center and look at your own life differently. Start paying attention to the life that has been speaking to you all along.  There is something in this episode for wherever you are in your life right now.  This is a must-listen episode. • E214 - Tom Bilyeu: Humanity Is Splitting into 4 Futures… Choose Wisely

E214 - Tom Bilyeu: Humanity Is Splitting into 4 Futures… Choose Wisely

My guest today is Tom Bilyeu, the entrepreneur behind Quest Nutrition who went on to build Impact Theory into one of the most watched long form interview channels in the world. Tom is now building a procedurally generated video game called Kyzen, and in recent years his content has shifted away from personal development and toward economics, artificial intelligence, and the systems that quietly shape how we live. I wanted to sit with him inside that shift, to understand what pulled him away from the mindset conversation he had mastered and toward questions about money, power, and the trajectory of intelligence itself. What We Dive Into: 1. Tom credits his success to a simple loop: predict an outcome, run the experiment, and stay honest about what actually happened. He treats being wrong as useful data rather than a threat to his identity, which lets him adjust quickly instead of defending a position that clearly isn't working anymore. 2. Tom argues that meaning isn't discovered but handed to us by evolution as an empty box we get to fill. For him that box holds his wife and his work, and he believes people struggle most when whatever filled the box, a job, a role, a relationship, disappears and nothing takes its place. 3. Tom's core financial message is that not owning assets quietly erodes your purchasing power through inflation, whether you notice it or not. He believes the escape route is available to almost anyone, but most people never take the step of investing consistently over decades instead of waiting for certainty.
