Why Your Feelings Matter As A Dentist

Why Your Feelings Matter As A Dentist

Your feelings matter, and it's not why you think! It's not because I think, or anybody else thinks, you deserve to be happy (which I do!). It's also not because you SHOULD be happy. Your feelings matter because your feelings drive what you DO, and that includes how you run your dental practice.
In this episode, I discuss the feelings that we all have, their importance in our lives, and the fact that our feelings drive our business decisions. Actions are driven by feelings, so they play an incredibly central role in our lives. For example, your to-do list may exist, but if you’re not in a good spot emotionally to deal with those items on your list, they’re probably not going to happen! Or, if you are in a great spot, feeling completely confident, those feelings can drive you to make wonderful decisions that propel your business forward. Also, do you know new feelings can be created? Be sure to listen to this episode to learn about a tool to not only manage your feelings but also create new ones! Take charge of yourself today, and be sure to listen now!
    Highlights from this episode:
Where our feelings come from  The importance of recognizing feelings that you are experiencing Feelings such as shame, confidence, optimism, gratitude and more… and how they apply to dentistry and how we practice A technique you can learn to create a new feeling  Resources and links mentioned:

Why I Became a Life Coach and Why This is Good News for You

Why I Became a Life Coach and Why This is Good News for You

My journey to becoming a life coach is one with some obstacles, and I’m proud of having overcome them to reach my goals. From growing up in poverty, to challenging my family’s religious teachings that said women should not work, to marrying young, my path to dental school was riddled with challenges.
However, I succeeded in becoming a dentist and having a very profitable practice. But by 2018 my leadership and morale suffered because I was not enjoying my work. And then my numbers suffered because I was in my “scarcity slump” of not looking at things in a way that demonstrated abundance. Luckily, thanks to life coaching, I had an epiphany: I can be in charge of my OWN feelings! After going through the coaching process, I myself became a certified life coach; and this is good news for you, too, because I now know how to train dentists to train their minds, and I am sharing this information with YOU!
    Highlights from this episode:
Overcoming obstacles to reach goals The amazing sisterhood of dentistry The realization that YOU can be in charge of your own feelings Good news - I am sharing the process of training dentists how to train their minds right now in a free E-course that can be downloaded  Resources and links mentioned:

Feeling the COVID Quits; Why I Sometimes Have Fantasies of Selling My Practice

Have you been questioning various aspects of your life lately? If so, you are NOT alone! During this pandemic, many people have taken time to do some soul-searching and consider what changes they may like to incorporate into their lives. And, my friends, let me tell you that I am one of those people!
In this episode, I demonstrate how my mind has gone multiple directions during the recent months while my practice has been closed… even so far as to think about the outcomes if I sold my practice. I put my coaching tool, “The Model,” to use in analyzing these thoughts and intentionally creating what I want for my life. And you can use this process to work your way through whatever circumstances you are questioning as well.
    Highlights from this episode:
The principles of what the brain wants and what its mission is The motivation triad and how it adds meaning to why we do what we do Applying “The Model” to the consideration of a circumstance such as considering closing a dental practice and how you can use The Model to apply it to your situation The importance of being intentional Resources and links mentioned:

How I Used The Tools I Teach To Solve My Own, Very Personal, Problem

If someone takes an action that goes against your thoughts or beliefs, how do you react? Do you lash out or take time to think about how you want to react? This episode explores a system for analyzing any problem or anything good that is happening, and it is a way for you to help yourself create what you want for your life. This system is called “The Model.”
In this podcast I explore the very relevant topic of my child’s gender orientation and demonstrate the method I have used in certain opportunities to be a bridge person and show up with love instead of defensiveness. I also discuss how “The Model” can be used in any situation, including dentistry. It can help you understand yourself, your practice, your team members, your patients and how to intentionally lead your practice.
    Highlights from this episode:
What “The Model” is and how it can be applied to various situations The method to being a bridge for future change of heart while drawing boundaries How it is possible to feel love even in difficult situations How “The Model” can be applied to dentistry Resources and links mentioned:

Give Yourself Some Grace, Girl with Dr. Shakila Angadi

Give Yourself Some Grace, Girl with Dr. Shakila Angadi

I am thrilled that we are able to welcome Dr. Shakila Angadi to this episode today. She is a general dentist and a Social and Emotional Intelligence coach. She focuses on emotional processing, awareness and learning how to use our emotions as information. This is so vital to our current world situation right now!
People are worried and fearful of the unknowns of the pandemic we are all experiencing. Fears can lead to reactive behaviors that do not make sense because people are in survival mode and filled with panic. We need to recognize these emotions, listen to them and process these big emotions. And we need to realize that there are no right or wrong ways to process these emotions. When it comes to these big feelings of anxiety and overwhelm, as Dr. Angadi says, “We don’t get over it, we get through it.” This may be uncomfortable, but it is so important to realize this.
In this episode we explore these emotions we are all experiencing and the fact that we deserve some grace during difficult times. We have to leave our expectations behind right now and just deal with each day as it comes. We can’t keep up with tomorrow, so give yourself some grace! Big expectations are not helpful right now. We need to accept ourselves just the way we are, grant ourselves permission to alter the courses we choose and give ourselves some compassion for the decisions we need to make.
Listen to this episode for some ideas on how to process the emotions we are all experiencing and ways to recognize the special opportunities hidden within the chaos of our current reality.
    Highlights from this episode:
Promise yourself that your future self will not look back and criticize decisions made now If you get new information, give yourself the grace to make a new decision What realistic optimism is and how it can be applied in your life The idea of giving yourself an intention before changing your attention or direction It is okay to give yourself some acceptance of change Practicing mindfulness as prevention helps you handle difficult times when they arise Don’t make permanent decisions on temporary emotions - only handle what you have to handle and leave the rest for later Resources and links mentioned:

California Dentist ,

What is your brain doing ?

Dr Laura helps you look at your brain and see what your neural habits are and what you can do to change them!
She understands the dentist life and the mommy life!
She’s a coach who can help you with the most powerful tool you’ll ever have, not the hand piece, but your brain! She’s been a great coach for me. She has a fresh unbiased perspective on what your thoughts are doing. I was stuck in a thought loop of I don’t have a enough time & I’m making my way to I have so much time !

Gratitude

Big shoutout to Dr. laura, it was my first session with her, omgg how deeply connected i felt to my self. With her powerful questions i felt as if i am observing my own thoughts from outside of me and self interviewing myself.
It was quite a stir for me for my good.
