Inside Virtual LeaderCon: Building Leaders Across Your Organization

How can you transform leadership development from a one-time event into an organization-wide learning process? In this special episode, Kevin shares how organizations and leaders can use Virtual LeaderCon to improve leadership at the individual and enterprise levels. He highlights leadership insights from past events, including the importance of being willing to say, "I don't know"; stepping aside to allow others to succeed; focusing on leadership techniques rather than personality; setting priorities; and recognizing that organizations often have more of a listening problem than a knowledge problem. Kevin also discusses how organizations can put learning into practice by dividing sessions among leaders, organizing lunch-and-learns, establishing learning pairs, and connecting sessions to development goals. Are You Walking the Talk? - Thoughts from Kevin

When you're training leaders, here's a question worth asking yourself: are your people watching you do the things you're asking them to do? In this episode, I talk about why it's not whether someone attended a training that matters. It's whether they're taking action on it. And if you want your people to actually change their behavior, there are two questions you have to answer honestly: do they know what's expected, and are you modeling it yourself? Words and knowledge matter. But behavior matters more. Want a free way to help the leaders in your organization put this into practice? Check out Virtual LeaderCon. Creating Transformation Through a Culture of Inquiry with Sebastian Wernicke

How can leaders use data to make better decisions and drive real change? In this episode, Kevin talks with Sebastian Wernicke about why so many organizations invest heavily in data and AI yet still struggle to achieve breakthrough results. Sebastian explains the difference between being data-driven, data-frustrated, and data-inspired. He believes that data should not only confirm and optimize what organizations already do but also challenge assumptions, reveal unexpected possibilities, and inspire new directions. They explore common myths about data, including the belief that it is always objective, that deeper analysis will automatically reveal the right answer, and that complex decisions can be reduced to a simple yes or no. Sebastian also shares why leaders must balance depth with decisiveness and become more comfortable with uncertainty and probability. They also discuss the opportunities and risks of AI, particularly its tendency to fill in gaps and generate appealing answers based on hidden assumptions. About Sebastian Wernicke Sebastian Wernicke, Ph.D., is the author of Data Inspired: Building an Organizational Culture of Inquiry for Lasting Transformation. He is a partner at Oxera Consulting, one of Europe's oldest economics and finance consultancies, where he leads the data science and AI practice. Sebastian is a leading expert in data and AI strategy and a former Chief Data Scientist. For two decades, he has guided organizations around the world to achieve breakthrough transformation through the power of data. His ability to make complex topics around data accessible, engaging, and actionable has made Sebastian a sought-after speaker and workshop facilitator. His three acclaimed TED Talks have reached over 5 million viewers. For more information, follow Sebastian Wernicke on LinkedIn or visit www.datainspired.org. Two Conversations You Aren't Having - Thoughts from Kevin

You send people to training. They come back, and... nothing changes. So whose fault is that — the training? The trainer? The learner? Actually, there's a fourth option: you. There are two conversations every leader should be having around any training their team attends — one before, one after — and most of us aren't having either one consistently. In this episode, I walk through exactly what to say and ask in both conversations, so the training you're investing in actually turns into changed behavior. If you've got newer frontline leaders you want to set up for success, this is exactly the gap our From Bud to Boss program is built to close. A New View on Situational Leadership with Suzie Bishop and Sam Shriver

How can leaders adapt their approach to give people what they need in each specific situation? In this episode, Kevin is joined by Suzie Bishop and Sam Shriver to revisit situational leadership and discuss why this decades-old model may be more relevant than ever. They explain how effective leadership begins by clearly identifying the task, skill, or behavior involved, then assessing an individual's ability, confidence, commitment, and motivation before choosing the right leadership response. Kevin, Suzie, and Sam discuss why no leadership style is inherently good or bad, how empowerment can feel like abandonment and direction can feel like micromanagement when misapplied, and why leaders must step beyond their comfort zones to serve others' needs. Beating the Forgetting Curve - Thoughts from Kevin

How much do you forget after you learn something? A lot — probably more than you'd like to admit. Whether it's a training session, a podcast, a book, or a video like this one, most of what we learn slips away faster than we expect. In this episode, I share four things you can do to remember more and forget less: focus on the key points, make them findable, use spaced repetition, and have a learning partner. If we know we're going to forget the things we learn, let's have a plan for remembering the most important parts. Creating a Connected Culture with Dr. Jamie Shapiro

I can bet you want two things: a thriving team and a thriving culture. For a lot of us, they feel like a mirage — we can see them, but we can't quite get there. In this episode I sit down with Dr. Jamie Shapiro, author of Connected Culture: The New Science for Thriving Teams and Cultures, CEO coach, and organizational psychologist. We dig into why she calls culture an "operating system," her five C's model (with connection — care and trust — at the center), why clarity is a force multiplier and not bureaucracy, the difference between collaboration and teamwork, and how AI shows up differently in cultures built on trust versus fear.
