Worth the subscription

The premise of this show is so great, and I love that Kristen and Jolenta dive in 100% on every book. My favorite episodes are the ones where they end up genuinely enjoying/learning from parts of the (often impractical) books- this happened more consistently in earlier seasons- and I love that they’re willing to share their lives and pasts with listeners. I really appreciate when they acknowledge the privileges/racism/sexism of self-help advice, though I prefer when they do so in direct relation to the advice; sometimes when Jolenta goes in on sexism it feels more like a random outburst and gets tiring. Like with any podcast you have to like the hosts to like the show, but I think these two have distinct perspectives, interesting things to say, and a fun way of saying them. I always look forward to updates!

Always informative, sometimes hilarious and or touching

Whether I’ve read the book or not, I love hearing Kristen and Jolenta (and spouses) talk about their experiences living by different self help books, 2 weeks at a time. Love it, hate it or split decision, it’s always interesting. Props to the hosts for so generously sharing their experiences and the histories that sometimes come up.

Jolenta and Kristin have perfect voices

Seriously, they do. But in addition to that, this podcast is funny, life-affirming, and never too self serious. The friendship between the hosts makes me value my own friendships. If you’ve ever went through any kind of self help phase (or you’re still there), this pod needs to be part of your life. Love it!
