    Can Attractiveness Get You Fired?

    Can Attractiveness Get You Fired?

Meet Dr. Leah Sheppard a researcher at Washington State University who’s recent work found that attractive businesswomen are thought by supervisors, colleagues, and employees alike to be less trustworthy and more expendable. This phenomenon has been deemed the “Femme Fatale Effect” — a term usually reserved for a seductive, yet manipulative, woman (Think Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.) Put another way, women cannot catch a break.  In this episode, we’ll discuss why this gender stereotype and bias exist and what you can do about it. And, to add insult to injury, Dr. Leah will explain why the workplace treats conflict among women differently and how you can address that imbalance as well.

Quitting Your Job with No Plan B

Quitting Your Job with No Plan B

Meet Tess Vigeland, author of Leap: Leaving a Job with No Plan B to Find the Career and Life You Really Want, who discusses what really happens when you leave a high-status job without the next steps lined up.
Tess doesn’t hold back as she discusses what pushed her to leave her job at Public Radio’s Marketplace, the emptional rabbit hols she went down months after, how she landed a book deal, and the warning signs that might mean it’s time to quit your job.

Additionally, Tess and I discuss our society’s attachment to our job titles and why asking, “What do you do?” should be removed from conversation starters from now on.

    “I Saved $100,000 in 3.5 Years on $54,000 Salary—Here's How”

Meet Bola Sokunbi the founder of Clever Girl Finance as well as the author of a newly released book by that same name.

Bola’s a financial force but her story didn’t start like that. Today, her site gives financial advice and teaches financial literacy to millions of women each year, but less than a few years ago, Bola was making $54,000 a year and working toward a goal to become debt-free—and save more than $100,000.

Spoiler alert she hit that goal and she’s sharing how she did it plus, I’m asking her some popular money questions like how much should you have in your emergency fund, which debt should you pay down first, and how can you invest when you don’t have a lot of extra income.

The Art of Asking Questions for Career Success

The Art of Asking Questions for Career Success

Meet Annabel Chang, Vice President Bay Area for Alaska Airlines, and a woman who’s had a winding career path including law school, a tech startup and now at the 5th largest U.S. airline.

Annabel’s career has included some tough questions that many of us do and will face in our careers like, “What do I want to do next?” and “I want more but I’m not sure how to get there.”  Walking away from a prestigious job in the search for something new while not letting your confidence take a major hit was just the tip of the courageous iceberg that Annabel navigated.

The episode will also explore why asking questions can build confidence, how Annabel landed her job via LinkedIn, the importance of elevator pitches, and how to act in the first 100 days of a job.

I...LOVE...THIS...PODCAST!!,

As a female water resource engineer I haven’t had a mentor in my field who is like me. My bosses have all been male and rarely have I had a female colleague to look up to and aspire to be like. This podcast has encouraged me to be a better female engineer, to empower others, and to look at things from entirely new perspectives. More importantly it has inspired me to embrace my femininity where I otherwise would have tried to just “be one of the boys”. With its totally relatable hostess and guests, this podcast is helping me to navigate this crazy professional/motherhood life and pave the way for the next generation of engineers behind me.
