208: You Don’t Have to Exercise Perfectly – How Movement Morsels Help You Build Health One Habit at a Time

Have you ever looked at exercise guidelines and thought, "Ugh... there's no way I'm doing all of that!"? If so, this episode is for you! This week, on episode #208 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we're talking about why you don't have to exercise perfectly to experience real benefits. I'm digging into the idea of "movement morsels"—small bits of movement sprinkled throughout your day—and explaining how even a minute or two of activity can make a difference for your health, energy, strength, and mobility. We also chat about letting go of all-or-nothing thinking when it comes to exercise. Whether it's a few squats while waiting for your coffee, balancing while filling a water pitcher, or taking a quick walk around the block, those little moments add up! If you've been feeling overwhelmed by fitness recommendations or wondering if what you're doing is enough, this episode is a reminder that every bit of movement counts and that building a healthy, active life can be much simpler than we often make it. 207: Mindful Balance: The Movement Habits and Routines That Support Your Me Now Years

The other day, I found myself standing on one foot while brushing my teeth—a habit I've picked up as a quick balance exercise. Somewhere between trying not to wobble and trying not to get toothpaste on my shirt, I started thinking about how balance shows up in so many areas of life. This week, I’m wrapping up our May Movement Series on the Habit Thrive Podcast by talking about balance—the movement pillar that helps bring everything else together. While we often think of balance as simply not falling over, it’s so much more than that. In this episode, I share why physical balance becomes increasingly important as we age, simple ways to improve it right at home, and how balance training can support strength, confidence, and independence for years to come. We also explore how balance connects to the other movement pillars we've discussed this month: cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and mobility. But the conversation doesn’t stop there. I talk about balance in a broader sense, too—balancing our schedules, energy, relationships, and expectations of ourselves. As women in our Me Now Years, it’s easy to focus on taking care of everyone else, but true balance means remembering that we matter, too. Most importantly, I share why balance isn’t something we achieve once and then keep forever. It’s an ongoing practice of making small adjustments, listening to what we need, and responding to life as it changes. Whether you need a workout, a nap, or a little of both, this episode is a reminder that balance isn't about perfection—it's about presence, self-care, and creating a life that feels a little steadier, one choice at a time. 206: 3 Ways to Add More Flexibility in Your Me Now Years

So far in our May Movement series, we've been exploring how cardio keeps us energized and strength training helps us feel capable and confident. This week, on Episode #206 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we're talking about flexibility—and why it matters so much more than simply being able to touch your toes. Flexibility is actually just one piece of the larger mobility puzzle. We're looking at simple, realistic ways to build flexibility into everyday life without adding another overwhelming task to your already full schedule. From gentle stretches before getting out of bed to incorporating small moments of movement throughout the day, these tiny habits can add up to big benefits over time. We also talk about the value of a regular yoga practice and how slowing down, breathing, and moving mindfully can help release tension and improve how your body feels. As we continue building our movement foundation this month, flexibility helps tie everything together. Sometimes it's not just the stretches themselves that help us feel better—it's the slowing down, the breathing, and the opportunity to release some of the tension we've been carrying around.  Lorrie xoxox Loving the show? 205: Strength Training, Strong Backs & Knowing When NOT to Lift the Cottage Fridge

Want to hear something I've learned recently?... Just because I can lift something doesn’t always mean I should. Somewhere between cottage season, flower pots, and unloading trucks, I’ve realized that strength in our Me Now Years looks a little different — and honestly, a whole lot wiser. In today’s episode, I’m talking about real-life strength — the kind that helps us carry groceries, lift luggage, paddle kayaks, garden, travel, climb stairs, and simply move through life with more confidence and independence. We'll be talking about why strength training becomes even more important after 35 and menopause; how muscle supports our metabolism, joints, bones, balance, and confidence; and why combining strength training with cardio is one of the best things we can do for long-term health and longevity. I'm also going to share the Canadian healthy aging recommendations for adults over 50 and why consistency matters far more than extreme workouts or perfection. Most importantly, this episode is a reminder that strength training in our Me Now Years is not about becoming smaller — it’s about becoming more capable, resilient, and supported in the life we want to live. 204: Cardio Confidence — Your Heart, Your Pace After 50

Cardio can feel like one of those things we know we’re supposed to do… But, somewhere along the way, it also became tied to pressure, intensity, sore knees, exhaustion, or feeling like we’re already behind. Today, on episode #204 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we’re taking all of that energy out of it and having a much more real conversation about what heart health can actually look like in your Me Now Years. I’m sharing a little bit about my own history with cardio (including why I was never really a “cardio person”), how my walks have changed over the years, and why I’m personally rebuilding my endurance right alongside you this season. We talk about the difference between challenging your heart and punishing your body, why walking truly does count, and how movement can support everything from energy and blood sugar to mood, mobility, and longevity. This episode is your reminder that you do not need to train like an athlete to take care of your heart. You just need to keep moving in ways that work for your body, your life, and this chapter you’re in. Lorrie xoxox Loving the show? Let’s connect! 202: Boost Your Spring Energy with Ayurveda: Dry Brushing, Coconut Oil Abhyanga, Clearing Clutter & More

Still feeling a little heavy even though it’s spring? You’re not alone—and you don’t need a full life overhaul to shift it. Episode #202 of the Habit Thrive Podcast is your gentle nudge to notice what’s still weighing you down and lighten things up in simple, doable ways. Think small resets: Clearing out a few things in your pantry, letting go of old products, or creating a bit more space in your day. Nothing drastic—just enough to invite in fresh energy. Your morning can help set that tone. Simple habits like tongue scraping, sipping warm water before coffee, or adding dry brushing and a quick oil massage can wake up your body and calm your nervous system at the same time. It’s less about the routine being perfect and more about how it makes you feel. Movement matters, too—but not as punishment. Just enough to get things flowing again. A walk outside, some stretching, a bit of strength work—whatever helps you shake off that lingering winter sluggishness. Same goes for food... This isn’t about dieting—just noticing when you’ve had enough. Eating until satisfied instead of stuffed can be a surprisingly powerful shift. At the heart of it all is awareness. What feels heavy? What feels light? What helps you feel more like yourself? As you move into May, don’t aim for perfect—just aim for a little lighter. Start there. Lorrie xoxox Loving the show? Let’s connect! 201: Spring Habits: What Do Iyengar Yoga, Fruit, and Eating to 80% Full Have in Common?

Ever notice how traveling (or even just this time of year) can leave you feeling either really light and energized…or kind of heavy and off? Episode #201 of the Habit Thrive Podcast is a little snapshot from my last getaway of the year, and how I try (imperfectly) to bring Ayurveda with me on the road—especially during this sluggish spring season. I ended up connecting a few things that don’t seem related at first—an Iyengar Yoga class, how I eat fruit, and that whole “stop at 80% full” idea—but they all come back to the same thing: how I actually feel in my body. The yoga class that I took on this trip really stood out. I loved the structure of the class—it grounded me—but it also reminded me how important it is to soften that structure, especially for women. It brought me back to Vanda Scaravelli’s approach—less forcing, more listening. That balance of effort and ease feels like exactly what we need this time of year. Then there’s food while traveling…which can be a whole "thing". I talk about something simple I try to stick to: eating fruit on its own so it digests better (instead of just sitting there making everything feel worse). And finally, the 80% full idea—leaving a little space instead of pushing to completely full—which sounds easy but is definitely not always easy on vacation. And, as I always like to point out ... It’s really just about paying attention and making small choices that help you feel better, even when everything else is a bit out of routine. Lorrie xoxox Loving the show? Let’s connect!
