    149. Planning is Billable - i.e., Valuable (Listen even if you don’t bill)

Oftentimes, planning gets categorized as less valuable than the work we should be doing. So if you've been skipping your planning session because you don't think you can bill for it, or if you don't bill for your time but find your planning session keeps getting quietly dismissed, I want to push back. Let's discuss the three reasons protecting time to plan is worth it, no matter how your hours are tracked. 145. Push Back – And Let the Wrong People Leave; "You're Going to Disappoint People, and It's Still Worth It."

A client said it like it was just a fact: if she pushed back on new work, those clients would take their business elsewhere and never come back. Kelly heard it and recognized the fear behind it - she'd also spent years operating from that same exact assumption. This episode is about what actually happens when you push back. Kelly makes the case that it's one of the best ways to find out who you're working with, whether they're a fit for the life you're building, and whether it's worth staying. She shares her own story from her attorney days, a client who stepped off a board after one pushback conversation, and another who got promoted five months after finally having the capacity conversation her boss didn't know was needed. If your plate is overflowing and you keep absorbing anyway, this one's worth a listen. 144. Follow Through on Your Commitments – But Maybe Not Always

Most of us grew up with the same rule: you start something, you finish it, no matter what. So if you've ever stayed in a commitment well past the point where it was working for you, or found yourself white-knuckling through something out of obligation rather than intention, I want to dig into that. There's more nuance here than the rule suggests, including what a graceful, fair exit can actually look like. Let's discuss. 143. Getting Out of the House in the AM

In this episode of The Bright Method Podcast, Kelly Nolan riffs on a question from a friend: why does it always take so long to get out of the house in the morning, and what do you actually do about it? She walks through three things – embracing how long getting out the door actually takes (it's probably 15–20 minutes, minimum), calendaring that reality instead of your aspiration so the scramble-y feeling has somewhere to go, and the one firm rule to hold in your head as you're moving through your morning. It sounds almost too simple. But if you regularly leave the house feeling behind before your day has even started, this episode is for you.
